Well, they may leave braces in general alone, but if a particular brace is essentially a stock (due to design) then I could see them considering it a stock. There has to be a line. If there is no line, then there are no pistols, only SBR's. I can also see them cracking down on a specific braced pistol if it is advertised as essentially an SBR, which is what it appears they are doing.

agree. i would think that after the fiasco with shouldering pistol braces it would be incredibly unwise for a company to actually market a braced pistol as being intended to be shouldered.

It's actually a pretty aids process for full auto conversion with all the lower parts you need to obtain which can also be a felony for "constructive intent". Could post an instructional .png foreducational and legal conversion purposesbut idk if mods will freak out or not

I keep Maglocks on all my ARs for that reason, completely CA legal like that, and if it ever came down to an extreme crisis it's a 2 minutes swap to a mag release.
But... why maglocked?

Featureless is even easier. It's literally one hex screw to remove and replace a Sparrow grip or whatever brand you prefer. Sure, you need to use a brake instead of a hider and pin the stock wherever you prefer... but who cares?

Seems like some companies got a little too cute . . . or downright flagrant in playing in the grey areas.

The early "braces" were designed like they were meant to be reasonably optimized for someone to actually use them as a brace for one-armed, pistol firing (wink, wink). Fairly flexible "wings", rounded design, not remarkably stable "if" you happened to use it like a stock but it could work, etc. As things progressed, some companies either blurred or shattered the line and it became more akin to "it's more like a stock that could be worn as a brace and less like a brace that might be kind of used like a stock." A brace made with thicker, more rigid material that doesn't lend itself to being strapped around your forearm as much as it lends itself to being used like a stock started to be a bridge a bit too far (or a bridge too Farley). Doesn't help when you have hundreds of videos with dudes exclusively shouldering them and never using them like a pistol.

There's a great line in Blue Thunder: "If you're walking on eggs . . . don't hop."

Fin grips blow. The better compliant grips are actually not even bad.

Is it stupid? Yes. But functionally I don't really prefer one to the other- EXCEPT in a scenario where I need to retain the weapon with one hand. Then the Sparrow grip requires more strength. But hopefully you're running a sling anyway.

Takes me 1 minute to switch and I can keep all my nice features: vertical foregrip, pistol grip, adjustable stock (folding on my Arak). All of that is a lot harder to put on and take off to make it featureless.

Also flash hider.

The physics behind a pistol grip allows you way more leverage from the shooting hand when reloading, or just keeping the long gun shouldered with one hand for whatever reason, such as opening a door with your support hand. So putting a strap around a stock doesn't make it a brace???
People/companies will always push the limits. Sadly, it's way more likely to end with no more pistol braces (for able-bodied persons) than it is to allow SBR's without a stamp.

What magazines and rounds are you carrying for your G26? Flush fit 10 rd, 10 rd with Pearce extensions, factory 12rd, magpul 12rd?

I fully agree on the practical reasons why, all things equal, a pistol grip is better. However, I would say in the vast, vast majority of situations, there isn't a major disadvantage to a good compliant grip. Most people will never reload a 30-round mag under duress or encounter the other scenarios where the advantages would be meaningful.

The whole law is silly, I agree. I can't wait to leave CA and swap the chit out. I'm just saying the idea people are gonna get killed because it makes the platform so foreign is... meh.

For what it's worth I have my Mini for full compliance without any modifications to it, so making my ARs featureless wouldn't benefit me much.

You should only run flush mags with a g26. If you are going extended it’s as long as a g19. And the extended mags are proven to possibly cause malfunctions when you are gripping the gun properly. So don’t know why you wouldn’t just carry a g19 if you aren’t using flush.

Agreed. And, at a minimum, that line should be striking straight through the lines that make SBRs "illegal" in the first place.
