Looks like I’ll be evacuating to Shreveport. Hopefully they don’t get hit as hard as they did in Laura.

time to do some work here bruhs. so this is what you have to look forward to. In the next 24-36 hours is where we will see peak intensity for the storm in the Gulf. This is a graph to show ocean heat content. the higher the stronger. luckily for louisiana the water gets cooler by the coast so it could lose some strength. Will continue to update throughout the day

Looking like its going to smash New Iberia area. Which is where I was born. Lots of family there. I've a relative stuck on a drilling rig in the gulf. He's going to have to ride out the storm out there.

I'm currently in the Yucatan area in Mexico and we just went trough it. Luckily it wasnt so bad we were out of power for a couple hours but everything is back to normal now. A couple of fallen trees and branches but no major damages near here. IT came down to a CAT 2 upon touching land so that helped a lot. There are no superficial rivers here or slopes so the risk of flooding is non existant, that helped a lot.

Depends on where you live more than the intensity. If you live near rivers or in areas prone to flooding it can turn deadly even as a mere tropical storm. If you live away from rivers or areas prone to flooding you can make it easly trough a CAT 5 just by staying indoors

It depends. Integrity of offshore oil rigs varies wildy since we've been drilling out there for 50+ years now. The ones closer to shore are generally the older ones and would not want to be on one of those during a storm. I've got some pictures of one I recently visited that was to be decommissioned...I was scared as fk that I was going to fall to my death at any moment, the decks were so rusted out.

Then you've got the fancy ones in deeper waters that have crazy design factors.

I was wrong it was Katrina not Ivan. Strange since Ivan was way worse on the Alabama coast than Katrina. In Gulf Shores there are still a couple of big ass boats in the middle of swampy fields near the wharf where Ivan blew them up

Now NOAA is saying it will only get back up to a CAT 3, and will be a CAT 2 by the time the eye hits the coast.

The county just below me issued a mandatory evacuation order. I feel this is a bit of an overreaction due to Laura.

I live just in the north side of that county line. I’ll be spending all day getting ready for the storm.

I’m not committed to staying yet, but I haven’t committed to leaving either.

What are you guys doing?

Man this blows. Right now it looks like tornadoes will be the biggest threat to my area. White flooding and wind damage still up there.

the storm wont be as strong, but it will be larger and with more surge potentially and more rain. be cautious more of flood zones than wind damage.
