Human beings have evolved to work and eat sporadically. We're doing the complete opposite of that. Most people are lazy and sedentary, don't use their physiques for what it was built for, and gorge on processed, nutritionally empty foods easily 18 hours a day. Never give their guts a break. Wreak havoc on their intestinal health and digestive systems. We've all become fat, lazy, safe, and complacent.

Can't anybody accept that getting fat is literally just not enough working out (sedentary lifestyle) and/or **** tier eating habits (overeating) without blaming 1 particular thing (brb carbs, brb PUFA brb brb everything else as an excuse)

in other news man lands on moon
srsly i thought this was common knowledge.
High PUFA intake and high sugar intake=obesity, diabeetus, metabolic syndrome and metabolic diseases.
PUFA's fucc up cell and mitochondrial membranes, which leads compromised proton gradients and proton leaks through the membranes which manifests as a whole host of diseases including heart failure and macular degeneration to name a couple
the vegancels and veggie oil industries have successfully brainwashed society into thinking that the diet we ate for thousands of years was suddenly bad for us. Incel Keys' works from the 60's and 70's might be one of the single most destructive diet paradigms to ever propagate society.

HFCS is particularly awful in that the human body deals with fructose differently than it does glucose. Every single human cell can utilize glucose for energy.
Eat an apple? Ok, you got some fructose there, it's also nutrient dense, lots of fiber to slow things down and give you time to process it, not a big deal. Drink that 20 liter pure HFCS and chemical soda that has x8 the fructose of that apple and no fiber to slow things down? Now your liver struggles, especially if you're downing a high-calorie fat burger alongside that soda. Fat is immediately stored, often right to your internal organs like the liver, welcome to pre-diabetes.
Want to drop weight? Stop eating constantly. Eat less when you do. Don't eat if you're not hungry. Cut out the chit from your diet.
Americans/Western-diet is wrong because we eat too much, we eat too often and we eat the wrong foods. Our calories are too fuking high, sure, but we're also constantly feeding, from the 3+ meals a day, constant snacks, drinking HFCS drinks throughout the day -- our bodies are constantly in fat storing mode, from the hormones, we're constantly eating because we're always hungry, from the hormones, and we eat and eat and eat and get fatter as a result.
This big IF craze, one reason it tends to work for many people -- you give your body a chance to actually access it's fat stores. You skip breakfast, sometimes lunch, you're not snacking, you're not drinking bullchit sodas throughout the day. Insulin levels drop, your body breaks down the fat stored throughout it for the energy it needs as it was intended.
Your post above: Fat people are constantly grazing. Yes, they are. They do because of the bad habits they've built and because they eat garbage that does not induce satiety. Weeks, months or years of bad eating has created hormone imbalances, they are actually resistant to the hormone LEPTIN which causes satiety. They eat, they don't feel full, they eat more and more and over time they get more and more fuked on a hormonal level and this is why people tend to only go in one direction with weight gain.
Sometimes they take steps to undo this but if they don't address the underlying hormonal problems with insulin, ghrelin, leptin and such - there is a big reason why so many diets FAIL in the long term. They drop weight but the underlying problems persist and about 95% of the time end up regaining the weight with their CICO diets that don't address hormones.
Ask a CICO zealot why there is NEVER a Biggest Loser Reunion. Nope. Not once. In fact, pretty much all of the contestants and in several caseseven the trainersend up back being big fat people. Why is that, hmm? I thought it's all about calories? I guess all these people who we fuking watch go through inhuman levels of mental endurance are ALL fuking weak willed *******s all of a sudden??

Re:the linked article- I was aware of the study and just grabbed the first relevant result, so yeah, maybe a crap article about the study.
You could totally be on to something with the effects of HFCS on the liver. There seems to be a documented increase in non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
Personally don't think that all calories are equal, but also don't subscribe to a super restrictive/forbidden foods life either.
When I was actively losing I was doing small frequent meals, as in 200 to 300 calories of mostly protein. For maintaining I've done better with an eating window and delaying eating until later in the day because once I eat something I tend to get hungry about every 3 hours.

Some of that is how they're used. I often eat a nice fatty salad that I drizzle with some olive oil. I don't cook with olive oil, though. Heating it up, for that oil, is the issue. I generally cook/fry with avocado or coconut oil if I'm having eggs or something.

I know it isn't easy to take weight off and keep it off. It tends to creep up, but usually I stay within a 5 to 10 pound range that moves up and down with my cycle and the seasons.
I had one really big regain (about 50 pounds) that took an all out 6 month assault to peel back off. Happened after moving far from my home and family and then my dad dying a few months later. This round it has been about 3 years now of just crappy life stuff that has worn me out + fighting low iron/hormonal stuff.

I have been wondering recently if it is just corn in general. The use of corn byproducts - oil and syrup - definitely coincides with obesity - which all goes back to the government subsidizing farmers for corn production.
But then you have to consider that they do use corn to fatten livestock before slaughter even in it's natural state it might not be the best for us

not at all
refined oils (specifically linoleic acid) are good for your skin since we all engage in the unnatural process of washing ourselves every day
people are fat because of excess calories
there's no mystery

that it's really pointless to stress about a teaspoon of olive oil vs a teaspoon of coconut oil.
You do not need to micro manage diet to such absurd extents.

No one will diet 100% strict unless they want to be super miserable.
And anyone blaming their weight gain on the type of oil they use are completely clueless, unless their entire daily calorie consumption consists of 90% oil.

Then there is the whole drenched in glyphosate thing too which we were told doesn't directly affect humans, but does affect our gut bacteria.

https://www.gmoscience.org/glyphosat...imate-pathway/
It was also recently labeled a likely carcinogen:
On March 20, 2015, IARC announced its conclusion: Glyphosate is "probably carcinogenic to humans."
That conclusion rests on three kinds of studies. First, IARC found "strong evidence" that glyphosate can damage DNA in cells. This kind of damage, inducing mutations, is the first step in causing cancer. Second, there are studies showing that when mice ate glyphosate, they got more tumors. Kate Guyton, a senior toxicologist at IARC, told reporters at a news conference that "these two studies gave sufficient evidence of cancer in animals."

That being said yes glyphosate is a terrible thing to consume and you can't really wash it off so definitely stick to organic foods for your health but carcinogens have nothing to do with fatness.

Counting calories is more micromanaging than avoiding bad fats, which actually is not micromanaging at all. I have no PUFAs in my cupboards, I don't weigh or measure the amount of fat I use in cooking, and I try to avoid prepackaged food or fried food when eating out if possible. I have never and will never count calories.

If you actually counted your calories, weighed your food etc, you'd look a lot better physique wise.
People can still gain weight on healthy food without bad fats. It's called eating more calories than they need. That's why calorie counting is important.
And it hardly takes time with sites like myfitnesspal. But if you don't want optimal results, then you shouldn't count them. To each their own.

This thread is at risk of falling to Tier 2 status.
As written by aleeboy before, the reason why we are seeing more fat ****ing mouth breathers are:
1. Genetics - their moms should have swallowed
2. Not preparing the right foods
Now, most people fail to understand the role genetics has to play here. Let me make it simple, as you age, your calorie intake needs drastically drops regardless of your physical activity levels. And if you follow my threads about genetics, a lot of people get ugly before 5 and so on. This is called degeneration and for some it starts as young as 5. For others it kicks in after 60.
I hope this makes sense.

You keep talking about these bad fats. Sure it exists, but how much of a difference does it really make?
like i said before, unless the majority of your calories come from these bad fats, it's really not going to matter much.
The main culprit is still eating more calories than you need.
That's why people get fat.
Why worry about a mosquito when there's an elephant in your living room? People itt are talking about these bad fats like they're the devil, meanwhile they're stuffing their face with food.
And even with bad fats, mcdonalds, and junk food, you can still lose weight and get below 10% bodyfat if you simply stick to a calorie deficit.
So it's obvious that the main focus point should not be bad fats. and that these bad fats are not the reason why people are overweight.
All this talk about something so insignificant just seems dumb to me. But everyone is free to do what they want.
Want to blame oil/fats for being fat while you eat 5000 calories a day? whatever makes you sleep better in the end.

I know people can gain weight eating healthy food. Recently I've been drinking milkshakes made of raw egg yolks, raw milk, raw heavy cream and maple syrup. I've gained weight, now my shirts are tight around the chest and shoulders but my trousers fit the same.

That being said yes glyphosate is a terrible thing to consume and you can't really wash it off so definitely stick to organic foods for your health but carcinogens have nothing to do with fatness.

Oh, wasn't trying to imply glyphosate was responsible for obesity, just replying.
And wasn't about "looking for excuses". Stated way back that for individuals each person has to manage their energy balance. Also in the very first post:
Caveats: correlation|causation, multifactorial condition, epidemiology, etc.
Really just pondering what has lead to such a huge swing in weight and health throughout the population in such a short time because while diet and exercise matter it seems like an incomplete story.I lived the "cholesterol bad/vegetable oils good" change of diet personally. Everyone switching from butter to margarine, from whole milk to skim or 2%. Then the Susan Powter/dietary fat > bodyfat craze when foods were being reformulated and fat was removed mostly to be replaced with sugar.
Most of it looks to have been about deflection by various industries. The tobacco industry didn't want heart and lung issues tied to their product. The junk food industry (grains and sugars) didn't want to take any heat.
- a lot of people smoke and fewer people were fat
- uh oh, what is this heart disease/cancer BS?
- high cholesterol due to dietary cholesterol intake; aka the theory that just won't die
- evidence can't be suppressed or denied so people cut out smoking
- less smoking > more snacking
- avoiding bad old animal fat, red meat down, chicken up
- sugar intake starts to decline, but not heat processed vegetable oils

If you're not counting calories, you really have no idea what you're consuming. I used to be the same and thought i could guess it. I couldn't have been more wrong.
Again, you have never counted calories. You don't know the difference it makes when you become super strict and keep track of your daily calories/protein etc.
But if you did, you'd know the difference it actually makes. There's no point of me trying to convince you though because you already stated you never will count them.
And that's fine with me. Just know you're missing out on great results.
And personally i'm a believer that if you pursue something, you should pursue it a 100%. Nothing half assed.
Since diet makes up like 60% of your total gains/phsyique. It's an abomination to give it your all in the gym and then just assume you're eating the right amount without spending 2 minutes a day counting your calories by logging the foods on myfitnesspal. Like those 2 minutes a day is too much to ask yet makes a world of difference.
But again, you should do you.
I just think it's an absolute joke people are focussing on bad fats, when the main culprit are calories.
Brb let me worry bout the few raindrops that ends on my floor through an open window, while the bathtub is overflowing with water and putting everything under water that i'll just ignore. That seems like an optimal strategy /s.

Not too useful though when contemplating the cause of a population wide increase in obesity.
And, FWIW, just saw a study that said for women on average TDEE is about 1.7X BMR. Of course results will vary and that is why you have to track.

It's not rocket science. It doesn't matter what the rest of the population does.
It's already discovered how to get in shape, how to lose weight, how to get a desired body etc.
Just because the majority of people decide to do the opposite of what they should do, doesn't mean that therefore the way to do it right suddenly became invalid.
If everyone followed a strict diet and exercised and miraculously still got fat, then you have a valid concern. That however, is not the case.

Most people don't focus on bad fats, they still think saturated fat, animal products and sugar are the worst things in the world.
