A long time ago I was leaving a teddie bar and in the parking lot these two dudes were talking smack to a bouncer.

They would insult the bouncer, the bouncer would say back, "Have a nice night, guys," then the two guys would insult the bouncer again, and the bouncer would repeat, "Have a nice night, guys."

I stood there and watched it for a few minutes. Nothing happened. They were stuck in this repetition lol. Eventually I grew bored and walked away.

Being a bouncer would be a terrible job IMO. Dudes get drunk and wanna fight you.

Have you guys ever seen a bouncer fight someone or any fights outside a bar/club?

The problem is the bouncer wasn't that big. When I think of a bouncer I think of a huge 300 pound man. The bouncer in the story was a normal size dude.

Bouncers need to be huge 300 pound men because it prevents a fight in the first place. Even if a guy is drunk as fukk if he sees that the bouncer is a giant 300 pound motherfukker he won't try to fight him lol.

Pretty sure "you can be our bouncer" just means "your big and cool and can hang out here" not "get ready to KO all those drunks we have coming around here we dont even know"

some are like what the OP is but some would absolutely light up the person talking chit (srs). Seen it a lot of times where a brah gets negged cuz he was talking too much. Tough guys dont realize that bouncers got a squad and they have mics so they call for help and 10 of them are there in a second.

Being a bouncer is actually a great job in the right setting.

I worked a few bars for 18 months or so, and it was fun almost every night. Slooty bartenders from your bar and others are basically just sex snacks whenever you want them if you're attractive and a fun kunt. Loads of ridiculous stories, random girls upset with their bf's randomly solicit you for sex, the money game from "flashlight finding" cash when the bar is 3 deep to order and drunk dudes are fumbling cash into their backpockets that ended up on the floor is absurd, drunk guys are unbalanced as fuk, we usually kept a 4-5 drink buzz going all night (never enough to get fukked up, but staying easy going), you'd be surprised how much random drunk guys want to befriend the bouncers (would get random things like ice level NHL tickets).

Main thing about being a bouncer is it's customer service, you're friendly and professional when you're checking ID's and collecting cash (gives you a chance to harmlessly flirt with girls when checking their ID's), defusing things before they get rowdy (if someone started acting up, you'd be amazed how quickly they sobered up when me and a 6'5" black guy came up and asked them if they wanted to have fun and enjoy the night or keep it up and get thrown out), and there is the occasional A-hole that is just too turned up, claims their father is "So and so" and you toss him out.

There are the occasional bad nights, where things do get completely out of control, and it comes down to some generally serious physical chit, those nights aren't great. But generally places I worked at had 2 door guys, 1 on the dance floor, 1 patrolling, 1 in the pool hall/dart area, and 1 by the kitchen directly watching the bar area, so 6 security guys.

6 large relatively sober large men can handle pretty much anything drunk A-holes can throw at them.

The worst thing we ever had happen was a fraternity of roughly 30 guys got rowdy, and started brawling with security. After the drunkest 5-6 guys got handled the rest became very submissive and apologetic very quickly.

Also back in the 2007-2010 era, you would not believe the amount of Northface jackets that got left behind, and the barbacks would flip that chit and throw people a cut.

Made $150-$300 per night.

If you're living in a major downtown city, you walk the bartenders back to their cars after their shift, they've been drinking while doing their count which takes about an hour, and usually have a couple shots on board during shift anyways, it wasn't uncommon for them to ask us back to their place once you got to their car.

Was a bouncer when I was 22.... broke up some fights, seen guys get wrecked badly by another bouncer I worked with who was drinking lots of orange juice.

Saw/broke up a big gang brawl with weapons and noped out of the profession after that.


Was decent money but not getting stabbed for it.

I was offered a job to be a bouncer a little over a year ago I believe when I was 22 or 23. I was talking to the owner of a stripclub and I mentioned something about my background in boxing and mixed martial arts, he said he was looking for a new bouncer because his current guy wasn’t doing a good job, he was getting distracted talking to dancers and stuff like that. At the time I was only like 170lbs lean and I’m 5’7, the current bouncer he had was about 6’1 270lbs of mostly fat. He told me how I would easily beat this big goon, and size doesn’t matter and stuff like that. Truth is yes I probably could have beaten the big framed, tall, fat bouncer but because of my size I felt I could be at a disadvantage for the job of bouncing. My background in striking heavy, I wrestled in school and dabbled Jiu Jitsu for some time, but my primary background is boxing which I have been training on and off since I was about 16.

But the point is if a big guy was getting rowdy at the club I would feel less comfortable trying to throw around some of these larger guys, I’m not saying that I couldn’t but I’d feel much more confident in my ability to move and damage them with strikes which is frowned upon and not really allowed unless you are getting swung at yourself. The were some other reasons I didn’t take the job but I wonder if I should have because financially it could have really helped me out and still could.

I wasn’t at my biggest at the time, I was mostly doing calisthenics and light dumbbell work, still could put up some decent numbers on lifts when I wanted.

Also James Mcavoy is 5’7 and was 160lbs in the film Split and Glass and he was decent sized. Compared to most people walking around I was noticeably muscular even at 170lbs and lean.

I do not think so but I have seen people getting kicked out.

When I visited the Czech Republic for a holiday, I saw bouncers beating the crap out of people every night. Was pretty shocked by their behaviour and brutality to be honest. Most club reviews on trip advisor also warn from or give low rating for violent bouncers.

I saw one drunk dude, who had been fallen asleep drunk on the bar and wasn't violent at all tossed down the stairs, kicked and choked.How many American are 300+lbs? 5% maybe? How many of those have a body composition that is actually intimidating and do not need a scooter to make it from one side of the local Walmart to the other?

Where would you get that many guys that size from?In a jacket under dim lighting?

Great temp work if you get nice venues. Bad venues will have plenty of large males wanting to fight and prove themselves to their peers.

If your face is at least 5/10 then it's a great social life.

You wouldn't want to bouncer in some places especially in like Russia. Your size won't scare off anyone because they will come back with friends/weapons.

Bro, not to call you out for coping, but that kind of size would get you laughed at the door at any legitimate club.

Our "front guys" were minimum 265 lbs sub 20% bf to even interview and our heavier hitters that worked inside the club were 6'3"+ 300lbs+ to interview.

Yeah, this was downtown in Saint Louis in a wealthier part of town, most guys coming in had blazers, etc.

On the guys trying to prove themselves, we usually kept "face" at the front being more handsome guys (no homo) that checked ID's and the real bangers patrolled the floor, you'd be amazed how much a crew of 6'1" 225 lb white guys realize they're out of their element when 2 6'5" 350 black guys or white bikers roll up lol. Ended a lot of arguments very quickly.

Parking lot is generally an area where you can be found for civil offenses. Heads get hit into parking meters, etc.

No I get what you are saying, and no I didn’t work there I was offered a job bouncing at a strip club which was a real small, grimy, dive place. The reason I was offered the job was because when I was conversing with the owner my background in boxing and wrestling came up. Apparently the bouncer that he had for the place who was a fat 270lbs+ wasn’t being professional and he was looking for a new bouncer.

I saw a dude slap a bouncer and then the bouncer cracked a flashlight over his head.

Guy was down, out, and bleeding all over the place. Legit thought he was dead.

I often wonder, why do bars and clubs have bouncers instead of a uniformed security guard who is allowed to legally wield a weapon (billy club/mace/tazer).

Sounds like the UK before licencing came into effect.

Introduced in (if memory serves me correct) the 90s, you have now have a licence to be a 'door supervisor' which involves a criminal record background check. Prior to licencing a nightclub could hire whoever they wanted to work security, and so regardless of prior convictions you could be hired if they thought you could do the job.



I read this autobiography as a teen, and it had a bit of a bad influence on me (as it did a close friend and his army buddies). One way it influence me was to take up Muay Thai and Boxing.

Great stories (even if they are a bit embellished) about a brah's career as a bouncer in the 80s here in the UK. (Dude in interviews talks about how a number of his friends and colleagues ended up dead or in prison)....



Due to licencing bouncers are now much more professional, and less prone to the'just beat the living phuck out of someone who pisses you off'mentality.

I've known a few bouncers IRL, and only one was a bullying dikhead. Most were down to earth people, who knew how to talk to other men and fight.

Probably costs more. Bouncers you just toss em some cash and call it a day. Cops tend to side with the bouncers anyway.

Bouncers at places frequented by suburban college kids are not the same as bouncers at places where legit scumbags frequent.

I've seen bouncers at college bars fight. It's usually ex-football players, ex-wrestlers, or just big fat guys. Typical college fighting you'd see anywhere drunk college-aged guys congregate.

The real bouncers at places where scumbags frequent are a different story.

If you're not an experienced fighter, it's stupid to mess with them. They'll ruin you quickly. Even if you're an experienced fighter (I mean like a legit fighter, not somebody who took taekwando as a kid from a shopping mall dojo), it's stupid to mess with them because you'll be quickly swarmed by the whole crew of bouncers. In short, don't mess with real bouncers. Don't even mess with college kid bouncers. They do stupid stuff when they fight and are all amped up. One of my college fraternity brothers was killed by an idiot college bar bouncer who was all amped up. Ended up pushing him backwards too hard and he fell and cracked his skull on the concrete sidewalk. He spent 8 months in a coma and woke up with severe brain damage. He eventually died from those injuries a few years later. The lesson is to stay away from bouncers and places full of drunks looking for fights. Nothing good can come from it.

A lot of women bouncers where I live, and small men. Hvae just seen some scuffles, nothing serious. Back in the day, it was more hardcore. Hells angeles types were bouncers. Sounds like an interesting job where lots can happen.

i worked as a bouncer couple years ago in nz, it was a good gig until the maorie gangs started showing up, thats when i left, i guess it very much depens where and what kind of bar/club it is.
