Luci im assuming you can work remotely? If so.



Charlotte metropolitan area of NC is great. Look at Huntersville-Davidson area.

Asheville NC (leans heavily left but county is deep red) really great vibe, lots of fun, beautiful scenery.

Knoxville TN is awesome. Beautiful scenery, affordable, lots of culture.

Charlottesville/Lexington are great smaller towns in VA. Not for me in terms of long term living but worth a shot.

Charleston SC is beautiful rich in culture, food and a fun nightlife. Slightly higher crime. Becoming packed, traffic is bad and some people are getting burnt out and leaving.


Im from Charlotte originally and current live in Raleigh. I MUCH prefer the Charlotte area to Raleigh but many enjoy the triangle as well.

Also considering Nashville, TN. Might be better for dating, but worse for the other areas. Asheville, wonder if that'll limit my dating options too much.

My sister in law is from Asheville. I wouldn't go there if I was still looking for a chick. That town is full of drug addicted, dirty hippy types and the normal ones tend to GTFO ASAP.

For example one of her high school friends is a fukn pharmacist there so not exactly low class and her bf looks like a soundcloud rapper and doesn't have a job. Colorado or Montana always seemed appealing. I'm basing my judgment on the landscapes. Looks beautiful out there. West coast as well. Not too sure about the people, though.

People are flocking to Nashville like there's no tomorrow, something to consider.

If you don't mind the heat, Alabama and Louisiana are awesome states with great nature, low COL and plenty of space. There's a college in Lafayette since you mentioned dating.

NC is going to turn blue in a few years. Its on its way there. People from NJ and NY are moving there in droves. God help them all.

Stay away from Cary. Cary = Concentrated Area of Relocated Yankees.

Maybe Denver depending which suburb But youโ€™d like COS better

Bellingham WA , college town but is pretty moderate with a smaller feel

Spokane but you wonโ€™t be in the PNW , youโ€™ll be Close to the Rockies

Bend, OR is supposedly Pretty tight

You said mountains and lakes but if youโ€™re willing to move to California thereโ€™s a lot of nice gems on the mid and northern coast

NC is your best bet as Far East coast goes

Itโ€™s the nicest state one that side , I drove up to mt Mitchell , it was really nice and have spent time in cape hatteras and the OBX

The only other state Iโ€™d pick is LA but thatโ€™s because Iโ€™d think Itโ€™d be badass to own a mansion on or close to the bayou

I should reveal my bias here too. Most of my friends are either Eastern US (because people in western US suck), or Western Europe so I am pretty biased towards that for the time difference and distance factor.

Unless there's a significant differential benefit to living in the PNW, I'd probably chose eastern areas.

it's the burlington vt of the northwest. not moderate at ALL. VERY VERY liberal.

pac nw is beautiful, but if you want sunny weather look elswhere. also its VERY liberal in the cities (more so than NYC even), but fairly moderate in the suburbs and rural areas. no state income tax, can still buy ar15s etc.

very insular culture. its either white natives that are not open minded(all their extended families are in the pacnw) or indians/chinese h1b immigrants (which all stick to themselves). google the "seattle freeze"

Utah, Nevada, and Colorado didn't really appeal to me aside from the beautiful backdrop in Boulder. That town seems super insular though, with obnoxious people.

Although I'm sure there's good areas in CO. You can find decent areas almost anywhere.

Wyoming and Idaho, never visited. Also hear eastern Oregon is nice.

Charlotte is great but I lived there for 20 years. I may come back eventually. Asheville is baby Portland from my experience. Raleigh isn't for me, but plenty of fun nights were had in Chapel Hill and Raleigh during college.

Charleston is kinda overrated...The city is cool but I would hate to live there.... James Island/Folly Beach with the occasional night in the city is a good lifestyle though. Their food and drink culture is the best in the Southeast. They get rocked by a hurricane every year though.

Unlike commiefornia where there is no stand your ground law or castle doctrine. If you blow a hole in someoneโ€™s leg for attacking you here , youโ€™re going to prison too. Doesnโ€™t matter if they where trying to kill you.

If itโ€™s anywhere near the coast the DA is gonna prosecute your ass, 50/50 in more red areas Iโ€™d guess.

Olympia is nice too but too close to Seattle and is liberal af.

I donโ€™t understand this whole get away completely from liberals thing. Theyโ€™re everywhere. Just move to a state with reasonable laws that you like And to a city without a clown council.

Almost every city in US votes blue if it has more than 200k people.

Dallas is liberal. They vote blue but why do people move there ? Because itโ€™s in Texas and Texas is a very well run state.

Boulder's a transplant city filled with the same people you want to leave in the Bay. Small town Mountain West is all filled with salt of the earth people. The attitude is basically hardcore Trump-ish conservatism coupled with Midwest humbleness and understatement.

The one thing I did like about Dallas is that Dallas is a big city that knows it's a big city. Yes, it's coupled with Texas's right wing attitude (no mass transit for you!), but their freeways are huge and were planned to be huge, the airport was planned to be huge, the suburbs sprawl without giving a phuck about "muh nature"... like you don't get the nimby chit of CA or the growing pains of explosive expansion like Austin, because DFW was always intended to be a huge soulless city. No one has a sign that says "Keep Dallas Weird." It's a metroplex the size of a small phuckin state and it acts like it.
