Look at how many industries have changed because of technology for example entertainment. I hope traditional education eventually succumbs to the same fate as blockbuster tbh.
There is definitely some value in what you’re talking about. No doubt about it.

But I would still say that it’s important remember a college education is more than just facts. It’s about discussions, writing at a higher level, reading at a higher level. You may say that you think you were reading and writing at the same level in high school, but that’s almost impossible.

The people that you meet with similar goals and interests, the discussions you have, the arguments you have in class.... meeting professors who know more than you and can challenge you. All of those experiences help you grow your mind.

It is why after you have a job or two after college, your education section becomes a footnote to say that yes, you have a degree.

COLLEGE IS A SCAM, PEOPLE! Medical degrees are super important sure, but all these places that require "a college degree" that don't even require it to be in a specific field? GTFO. All of the State of IL is requiring college degrees for most of their state workers, yet it can be in anything.

Imagine making people go into debt for half of their remaining life to get a writ of employment, basically, that doesn't necessarily help you in the slightest bit with your work. I guess it doesn't matter to them since you'll be a public sector employee and the government will just erase your student loan debt after 10 years. Complete fkin circle jerk at the expense of the tax payers.
Trump's EO requiring the fed gov to stop overly focusing on degrees has had real and immediate effect. I seen jobs get relisted after that went into effect and it was specifically for some technician positions were a lot of very experienced enlisted vets would have been a perfect fit since the jobs were very similar to what they already did but because someone up in the local organizations felt everyone there should be degreed they were not eligible.

Cheated all throughout high school, cheated throughout college too through test banks and other people who had past exams, still graduated. You learn mostly on the job than actually in school. I don't regret anything srs. Chit is a money making scheme if you're not in STEM.

I just have rules that I live by. I require consistency. I’m not the kind of guy who’s going to cheat on my wife on Tuesday because I won’t get caught, but not on Saturday because she might find out. The rule is simple: no cheating.

Another example: When I bought a car for my daughter on her 16th birthday, the person I bought it from said:

“Go ahead and put whatever you want for the amount.”

I guess you guys probably already know she said that because she figured I would want to lie about the amount I paid so I didn’t have to pay taxes on $10,000, and instead just pay for $1000. Who’s ever going to find out? Who is it really hurting? No one and no one? All benefit and no risk?

Maybe. But I believe in law and order. I just like to do things the right way. So I paid taxes on the full amount. I told the truth because I tell the truth.

And I’m happy with the long-term results of living that way.

If you have a better life than me, and you are happy with the long-term results of occasional deception and theft when no one is looking, more power to you.

lol @ the low IQ folks who have to cheat just to pass. I'm studying for my master's degree right now. some people are spending 25+ hours a week on one class and only getting a B. I'm working full time, going to school full time and getting straight As. I thank God every day I was blessed with a brain that functions at a high level.

This is the most stupid logic. Anyone who believes in "law and order" - please go back to Nazi germany where it was illegal to help jews in anyway and you had to tell the overlords if you saw any so they can be executed in gas chambers.

Just because something is written in law or written in the bible, or written in some goddamn book, doesn't give it any authority on how you have to live.

By subjecting yourself to living by "believing in law and order" is literally the dumbest thing I have ever heard anyone say, literally have 0 brain cells to think for yourself which is just sad.

In other news, you are a perfect cog in the system though, the system needs people like you to "yes sir" all day long so the system can function as it should, never question anything, never wonder why you're doing something, just keep paying your taxes at full rate to fund a $686 billion military budget to go steal oil from some arab countries. great work soldier!

just out of curiosity, would you report a friend or classmate who was cheating in university if you could prove that he was cheating?

No. I hold myself to a certain standard, not others.

We’re having a conversation about it, so I’m letting you know where I stand on it. But that’s as far as it goes.

how serious of an offense do you think cheating is? i'm just trying to understand where you draw the line and how you set your rules (i assume that if you witnessed someone stealing a car and getting away with it, you would report them - i know i would and i bet a lot of cheaters would too)

Good for you man, srs. I respect that.

Can you honestly say that you neverwantto do those things? I don't mean cheating on a loyal wife as that is a scummy thing to do and I would never, but the little things i.e. running a red light, saving on taxes, etc. where no one gets hurt.

I was raised to live by some rules as well you know, I'm not some hooligan who does what he pleases at any given time. I also work hard, make sacrifices and give back.
But, in regards to unethical actions then there is just one:
As long as no decent & good person is being hurt by my actions, then all in life is fair play.

With that code and my responsibilities aside, I do what I want. Luckily for me, it usually doesn't involve breaking the rules.
Does this make me corrupt? Sure. Does that make me a bad person? I don't think so. Maybe to some, but according to everyone around me, no.

In terms of a better life or not, that is subjective. But I am happy and aside from discussions concerning past transgressions, I don't ever lose sleep over my actions because I know that I never hurt anybody innocent.

In the grand scheme of things, not particularly serious.

I just place a high value on honesty and education/intelligence. I don’t think that’s particularly unusual

Back in my earlier college days, something called CEGEP in Quebec, your grade was weighted against the average of the class. It produced some kind of score. Basically, the higher above the class average your grades were, the better this score. I was serious when I went back to school but I was in class with a bunch of overprivileged, rich sloots who didn't give a fuk. In any other circumstance, if you want to cheat, it's none of my business at all. Do whatever you want. Eventually, you'll get to university, will have learned nothing, and that schit won't fly. Except in that specific circumstance, having a half dozen of them cheat on exams meant the average of the class would be driven up and my score would drop. Once this directly affected me, I took action. I caught a bunch of these sloots openly cheating on a midterm using their blackberries in class. They had typed out all the answers and essay questions on there. So, I sent an anonymous email to the teacher explaining what I saw. When the next class was over, teacher called out to these girls to stick around because she wanted to discuss with them. I feigned that I had to ask the prof something so I sat there and watched it all unfold. The teacher basically told them a student in the class had caught them cheating. To reinforce the stupidity of these girls, the teacher even said all of their essay questions were worded identically, and that this was further proof of the cheating. Imagine that. They obviously denied it all and kept coming up with bullschit excuse after bullschit excuse. "oh we study together so we memorized it all, etc etc." In the end, sadly, the teacher gave them the benefit of the doubt.

If I had to go back in time I'd do it all over again. I might even call them out to their face as they're doing it. Like I mentioned, you want cheat and it affects nobody but you, be my guest. However, once it begins to bring the rest of the class down, that schit doesn't fly and is incredibly selfish and unfair to the students who are taking it seriously, sacrificing, and working hard.

what's unusual is implying these are mutually exclusive with cheating in university

if you were in nazi germany hiding jews in your house, you were being "dishonest" when you base your definition of honesty on nazi germany's institutional rules.

not saying university/college is anything like nazi germany, but it is a chitty, scammy institution for many

I didn’t say that the two were mutually exclusive. Here you are again making utterly bizarre assumptions about my posts.

The reason I mentioned both of those in the same sentence is that we are having a conversation about both.

Cheating is dishonest and college is where you get an education. Wtf?

You can keep jumping through as many mental hoops as you need to. You don’t have to convince me of anything. If you think cheating is fine, keep doing it.

I won’t.

I’m perfectly happy with that result.

Damn what a simp of a professor. If they all had the exact same essay questions that should be a huge red flag of cheating. I'm getting my MBA right now, but higher education has definitely become a joke for the most part.

hiding jews in your house in nazi germany and lying about it to the authorities was dishonest too. so i guess that was bad as well, right?

i'm not making bizarre assumptions. i'm making logical inferences based on your posts. perhaps you should word your posts more carefully or reconsider your entire philosophy on cheating

You can justify cheating your way through college all you want.

You’re not saving Jews. You’re just a liar and a cheater.

i don't think it's as simple as that. i could think of a few scenarios where this mindset could lead to bad moral acts. cheating on a significant other without them finding out is one example

Honesty, cheating, notions of morality, law, etc. are all social constructs, varying from one society to another. I would even go as far as to say that they aren't real, but I also believe that they are a necessity for a healthy civilization that moves forward.

If there was no such concept then it would simply be a free for all, jungle like ecosystem.

Like you, I base my actions on the outcomes, as I told DrewDarden, anything that doesn't hurt someone innocent is fair play. But I don't think most people can be trusted to operate like that.

you missed the point (again). the point is not about saving jews. it's about mindlessly complying with a chitty institution's rules. lying to nazi authorities makes you a "liar" too.

I recently went back to school and my entire degree was online. I took several credit by exam courses and it is too easy to cheat. I passed 3 courses in 1.5 months. These courses are normally 8 weeks long but not for me. LOL

Everyone in my class was like, "how did you finish so fast?" blah blah blah I just went to school because it was necessary to get my director position soon. To each their own.

No issue with cheating here, especially when its on the BS classes you have to mindlessly go through to get to the meat and potatoes. The actual stuff you are pursuing a degree in I think you should put some effort into learning.

How dare you over-inflate your work experience towards feminist supremacy in your social justice 101 core requirement?
