Azores islands, Paradise on earth

Unironically on my list of places to move to. Island in the atlantic ocean. Good climate, isolated, many islands, safe.
Imagine moving here, buying a house with a big garden. Get a sailboat and just live a quiet life with a few animals. The population is small which could probably suck sometimes, but not necessarily. Biggest island has a population of 140k. Is a part of Portugal.

There is a military hub there.

Man I would have loved to be stationed there.

Madeira is also beautiful. Island to the south of the Azores. Also a contender

Nice, we can transform one of the small azores islands into Misc island. It´s possible if we make a deal with the locals.

23&me says my ancestry comes from these islands, I would love to visit. Seems like a pain to get there since it is pretty remote but would be a nice visit for sure. Already speak Portuguese

There are many islands in the azores tho, not just one. But yeah, I´m also looking at Madeira or even Tenerife.

Another paradise

I've been there many times, definitely will try to retire there. The GOAT set up would be one of the cottages right next to the ocean that are around Sao Miguel (or other islands I imagine). You could live off the land and fish. We could set up a misc colony

You can take a boat to that little island (ilheu), it's a great little spot for swimming, diving and snorkeling, but you gotta line up early in the morning for tickets in Vila Franca since they limit the amount of people that can go in a day.
Nice. Love me some fish. I will visit one day. Have a few places on my list to move to, not so easy to decide

Yea thats what I want. Plant some veggies, maybe get a few animals, and fish. Nothing better than being able to provide some food for yourself. Thanks, your comment made me more confident about this place. I would bet it´s an undervalued place. Good climate and far away from most of the big city life and such.

Fuaaark. I would buy a small boat too. Saving money. Azores may be the promise land

Too small to live on imo, but one can take sailboat rides to the island from Sao Miguel. You can grow grapes on the island as well, for wine production.

-Wineyard
-Boat
-Chikens and pets
-Comfy house outside of the main town
-Grow veggies and fruit
-Hike around the island, and take the occational trip to madeira

Goat life

Cool, but I would prefer to stay in the european area. Can blend in with the locals etc, and not too far away from family and friends.

I think Sao Miguel is the best island, since it has all the perks of civilization in Ponta Delgada, but once you get outside you can live the goat country life.

Terceira is also pretty good, but the terrain isn't as pretty, it's more flat.

Edit: the guy below makes a good point, I've only visited in the summer, the winter weather in the Azores can get a bit rough. But the azores are a bit more hidden so I like them more.
The temperature is supposed to be mild during winter. Around 15 degrees celsius which is an average summer day here in norway lol. You can even swim in the ocean during winter in the azores (17 celsius). The ocean is as warm in the winter there as it is in summer here. It´s not as warm as madeira or the canary islands, but it has a good climate.
I used to live on Gran canaria where it was sunny every day and hot year around. It was good, but I would get sick of it if I lived there for many years. Not to mention the desert and lack of trees and forrests.

Yes, madeira looks amazing as well. The thing I like better with the azores is that it seems more open in the landscape, more space. In madeira it seems to be mountains right next to the ocean all arounf the island. Not as open, more claustrophobic lol.
