Wrestling vs BJJ, which grappling art is more alpha?
Wrestling:
High test, unmatchable pace that is essentially a war of attrition, with both sides testing their physical prowess by constantly advancing their position through timing explosive bursts of strength to catch your opponent off guard. In the olympics with multiple countries competing for the prestigious Olympic gold.
BJJ:
Closely linked to the MMA community, tends to be slow paced at the highest levels, involves chokes and submissions:

wrestling is incredibly tough and beyond the physical stress you need to be in top tier shape
but i'd go with bjj. the sole purpose of bjj is to choke someone out or break a limb of the other person. Wrestling you can hold someone down or throw someone to the moon, but in bjj you can put someone out in seconds

Wrestling, and it is not even close.
Good BJJ instructors are almost always ex college wrestlers or guys who were trained by ex wrestlers.
MMA is most closely associated with wrestling/wrestlers, not bjj.
This has to be a joke or troll question?

Why not both? I see BJJ as the extension of wrestling after a takedown and vice versa.
In any good bjj school that does no gi you will learn some wrestling too. Do both. Pick up some basic boxing/kick-boxing too
so you have range.

wrestling crew checking in. Wrestlers actually earn their ears. BJJ is what wrestlers do when they retire because its easier on their bodies and more of a hobby for stay at home mothers. Its still effective as fck im not knocking. But its not on wrestlings level

Wrestling is meant to get someone on the ground and on their back, much like trying to sex a woman
BJJ involves laying down on your back and hoping that a big strong man lays down on top of you and just makes you take it
You decide

If you have one of them in your arsenal you're a badass. If you have both you're a superbeast.
Wrestling gets the slight edge from an MMA standpoint because people with Wrestling as their base can move further up the chain to the belt vs somebody who has a BJJ background for the most part. Of course You'll get people like Dillion Danis and Garry Tonon who can go up the chain also

Wrestling is obviously more alpha. It requires more physicality especially related to strength and explosiveness.
Both are great to learn though. I'd lean towards BJJ because of my age now though.

So many non-athlete dorks join bjj gyms and get brown & black belts. You can't do the same to be a proficient, say, NCAA D1 wrestler. BJJ has become the new bullshido

i don't have much grappling experience but too my knowledge
Wrestling = more alpha, also more likely to accidentally kill someone in a street fight by slamming them on their head
Bjj guy will beat the wrestler usually though.

Those would break most people. If I had to choose one of the two I would choose wrestling because I have a ton of respect for the sport.
The dichotomy is however moot in my opinion since you can train both and they form a continuum (and you can do so in an MMA gym for example).
Take fighting/self-defense for example. You have to be able to transition from your takedown to a solid position on the ground. One thing I've noticed is that
a lot of partners from an exclusive wrestling background would end up in a guillotine or other bad position on the ground. While that would earn
you points in a competition it might not end well in a different scenario.

As a bjj guy I hate rolling with wrestlers. They are always strong and agile AF. Pure BJJ guys are always working their technique and trying to outsmart you. Wrestling guys will just scoop you up, smash you and call it a day.

Wrestling is the best base for fighting hands down but pure BJJ beats wrestling because it actually finishing an opponent

I remember in college I joined the bjj group at the rec center and grappled with those guys
It was too easy to just rip myself out of all their chokes and armbars n shiit
The only one that got me was i had a double leg ride on one guy and he got some ankle lock shiit on me when i crossed my ankles

gordan ryan vs pat downey is how most bjj/wrestling match ups go. stop being delusional.
