Lol. This is probably the dumbest post I've ever seen on the misc.

You're comparing a sport (wrestling) to a martial art (bjj.) While they are both grappling, wrestling does not have anything that is meant to immobilize you. It has no attacks. Bjj has an entire toolkit of attacks. No chit the sport with no attacks is going to lose.

Give the wrestler the ability to throw a punch though, and you will get what we've seen time and time again in actual fights: wrestling>bjj

I respect both sports btw

Brutal.

Anyhow, the obvious answer is Wrestling - that's not to shyt on BJJ though.

As a former successful high school wrestler I agree with this.

BJJ is more of a means to an end with getting the opponent to tap.

But the two sports are wildly different when it comes to mindset and physically attributes.

If you go into any D1 college wrestling room and practice with them, these guys are absolute savages. Their level of cardio, strength, and how hard they train and push each other is on such another level it’s insane. These guys have a mindset that they’re ready to go to war.

In BJJ schools/clinics it’s a much more laid back vibe, where technique is PARAMOUNT. the smaller guy doesn’t have the weight disadvantages he’d have if he were wrestling somebody bigger.

I wasn’t the strongest in wrestling but I beat guys with really good technique and I knew a lot of moves. But there were plenty of times where I just got flat out out-muscled by the other wrestler or he put on a pace that I just could not keep up with. Wrestling is much simpler from a technical aspect than BJJ. But you have to really crank up your strength, cardio, and explosively when it comes to wrestling. It plays such a huge factor. You have to develop your “burst” where you commit so fukking hard and fast to a move either offensively or defensively and be able to scramble through the positions with everything you got in the tank.

Go watch any NCAA Division wrestling finals matches and you’ll see mostly the same moves. Double leg, single leg, high crotch, snap down, front headlock, hand fighting, collar ties, etc. it’s really relatively simple compared to BJJ. But the wrestlers who are in the absolute best shape and combine that with great timing/technique are the ones who rise to the top. It’s so much more about out-working your opponent than out-thinking him.

Both are great forms of grappling but they are just different.

I am a bjj black belt and have trained for over 17 years, I also wrestled in high school but focused more on jiu jitsu.

Wrestling by far has harder practices and is a much more grueling art because of repeated takedowns, but a decently trained jiu jitsu artist finishes the wrestler and most of the time by guillotine off the takedown.

A wrestler who learns submission defense is a mother****er.

The best is a mix of both wrestling and jiu jitsu.

Wrestlers are famous for canceling out BJJ in MMA. Wrestling is overall better even in a street fight, last place you want to be in a street fight is on the ground on your back with random people around you.

Seen this video of a guy fighting another guy and he goes for a double leg take down, lifts the guy up and spikes him on the street.. the guy ends up a instant vegetable and didn't have to throw a single punch

Wrestling has a way more competitive scene and is mostly trained by competitive athletes starting from a young age.
BJJ is mostly a recreational sport.

Therefore wrestling is more alpha. BJJ might be the better fighting style, but wrestlers are the better fighters.

Wrestling but the problem is wrestling is plagued by its obsession and devotion to weight cuts. Even public school wrestling programs will have kids, healthy growing teenagers, doing restrictive dieting or hardcore water weight cutting sometimes on a weekly basis. In my opinion this is psychically and mentally very unhealthy and not at all alpha

I wrestled for a private school and we had a lot of weight cutting too. Yea it’s definitely not something to be proud of but our mindset was always “that’s just the way it is.” But the only real way around weight cutting would involve rather invasive measures that wrestlers don’t wanna deal with. They’d have to monitor your hydration levels, how much you weigh, your body fat %, etc. not sure any wrestling teams are willing to do that.

Full disclosure I was a wrestler. What sounds more alpha to you?

Taking down another man and trying to get on top of them (wrestling)

Laying on your back with your legs spread like you are the taker in the missionary position (bjj)

BJJ is probably more effective in MMA but its not more "alpha"

I saw this a lot. The coaches pressured some of the guys to cut into weight classes they had no business being in. I'm sure some of them had their growth stunted because of it. One kid I know that made it to D1 ate nothing but salad without dressing for years to stay under 130

If someone who knows how to wrestle gets you down on the ground, things are going to get rough.

Wrestling and it’s not comparable, in any way.

Good Wrestlers can often transition to no-gi Bjj and be competitive or even win at the highest levels within only a few years. The opposite simply does not happen. Wrestling has far better athletes, it’s far more competitive, and it’s a more grueling sport. It also turns out better mma fighters.

If we're talking pure BJJ vs pure Wrestling...then yeah. However Wrestling is the best base/foundation for MMA.

Yeah its very rare, and when you do find someone claiming to teach it, they're usually charlatans.

Catch wrestling isn't just wrestling with submissions thrown of top...there are a lot of subtleties and alterations that make up catch wrestling.

wrestling, hands down is more alpha. the training is rigorous and there is no half a$sing it; you either go all in or dont go at all. to be competitive in HS and college, you need to dedicate a lot of training in and out off the mat, and a lot of dedication to diet. bjj is more technical but not nearly as intense. you can train casually 3 times a week and still get belted, where as training 3 times a week in wrestling wont get you on the team.

While you guys are fashion comparing rash guards, prancing around in your rainbow belts you get like a scheduled union raise you didn't earn, and calling some dick head a "Professor" who has a lisp and cant pronounce the letter R, we are busy from a young age learning how to locate the easiest ribs to break/bruise, and which direction to drive your power to instill the most uncomfortable experience into your opponent.
