make the most of your loved ones while they’re still here
just got off the phone with my Dad after his father (my grandpa) passed away today. Feels weird to console my Dad, but also a reminder I’ll have to do the same thing one day
you will regret not spending time with them before they’re gone, not fixing relationships with them etc brahs

absolutely true. spend time with your dad if possible. last year i came to the realization I wasn't spending enough quality time with mine and made it my #1 priority in life of things to change. Can honestly say me and my father hang and shoot the **** now 5 of 7 evenings/nights a week. best recent decision I've made and I know decades down the road I will appreciate it even more
sorry bro. hope your pops and your family are staying strong

But if the divide is something superficial, something you can't quite put your finger on, then you owe it to yourself to work on it. You will feel better.

Oof bro, revived my account to offer condolences and to be jealous that you, your mom and your dad talk.
Going through similar, my father has cancer but never wanted me in his life, nothing I can do about it now but wait for the death notice.
Cherish your parents if they're good to you.

Was always close with my pops. The day I got the call that he was diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer was a day I will never forget. I was still working in corp america at that time. i called my employment and told them I was checking out for awhile. I slept in his hospital room until the end (2 months)
Nothing had to be said. No mends had to be made. I told him I was going to marry my (then girlfriend, now wife) and he just kept looking forward and said "thats a good idea"
Who I am as a man today has a lot to do with my dad.
Sorry for your loss OP. Make sure you are there for your family at this time. Burying your father is a tough one.

100% agree, OP. My parents are getting older. I'm trying to spend as much time with them as I realistically can, particularly considering that I live far away and the pandemic and all that.
As you age, you also begin to see that your parents are not infallible and not indestructible as you perhaps once perceived them to be. There is also nothing so heartbreaking as seeing your parents break down in front of you, especially your father. My dad's been through a lot lately and it's taken its toll. The once strong, indestructible man I knew my entire life confided in me recently, in tears, telling me he can't take any more. It was truly one of the most heartbreaking experiences, having to console him and tell him it was going to be okay, but being on the phone hundreds of miles away and not being able to touch him.
