Never actually been. just seen countless movies about it and listened to countless YT vids from former prisoners (AfterPrisonShow, Big Herc, Wes Watson etc) as well as Brits (Jack Hill, Shaun Attwood etc).

I have only ever seen prisons from the outside, never visited as never known anyone close be incarcerated. I don't work in the legal/law enforcement/rehabilitation sector, so have no professional requirement to visit one.

I almost want to get sentenced to a week or so, just for the experience...although that would change when I heard that first door slam and lock I'm sure.

At any rate - I've only done a couple days. It sucks being herded around like cattle, being on their rules, etc. Pretty shytty and demeaning, I guess it wasn't that much different than Boot Camp though. I don't know how people manage to keep their sanity doing serious time though (unless they are in one of those Scandinavian jails that's like living in a decent apartment).

Buddy of mine went in and said it's not what you think but it's as bad as you think only worse. Not a big dude or anything, he was expecting the worse. He said having to leave those he loved was the worse part. He said he was kind of suicidal, and honestly didn't care if he lived or died, and a bit pissed off he wasn't going to let anyone mess with him. He said that respecting others, keeping his mouth shut, minded his own business, kept to himself and just generally ignored most people, and learned not to show fear, is how he survived. Said dealing with people's OCD issues is a pain and everyone gets them because it brings it out of you. Said that mental illness is probably the real reason most of those poeple are in there. He said a lot more people get killed in prison than you think because it's not reported and usually nobody cares even their own families.

I live next to pretty much the worst jail in the country (Santa Rita)

Iv been there a couple of times. Its basically just a place where drunk people go and have serious risk of covid. Its cold in there and there are no clocks. Its very very dirty. I don't really understand why it exists to be honest. I think for the most part calling family members to pick up drunks is better than society having to pay for housing these people in conditions that are pretty ****ty

I almost got into a fight once with some mexican dude named juan carlos who eventually started banging on the walls. The whole thing is ass cheeks. As a previous miscer stated its like everyone's mental illness comes out in jail. Lots of weirdos who probably act really normal on the outside.

edit: If you want more details, theres probably an abundance of dudes high on meth in there who are jacking off as in small private holding cells. The food is gross.
