Physique update (sorry to post again !)

Here's a video of my current physique for the misc to critically judge. Potential pro show debut will be in late May of 2021.

I won't start dieting seriously until March because I have a strongman competition coming up but I still track my calories deligently.

Huh ? I don't get it lol. If that's a dig at my height and weight I honestly don't care. I'm 5'6 and I've had no trouble at all in life, like literally. Infact, It's only the misc that cares about being 6'4 and 320 lbs xD

Thanks mate - I haven't maxed out in ages but I'm doing slightly over 4 plates on the squat for triples on a regular, 3 plates on close grip bench for triples and over 5 plates on conventional for triples

Mirin, hard to believe you only weigh 156 lbs if that's accurate in the above post
"One day I won't be able to lift any more. Not I won't want to lift. I mean physically unable. That day could be decades from now or it could be tomorrow. All I know is that's the day I'll wish I could lift more than ever. The day I'd give anything for one more workout, one more set, or one more cardio session. So go hard and enjoy every workout, every set, every rep. Because one day you will wake up and you will never get it back."

OP has a great physique, but if you put him next to a 6 foot 2, 220 pound guy, he definitely wouldn't look bigger.

I don't get all these morons commenting on his weight like they are soo surprised.

It's like you've never seen someone with a small frame put on tons of muscle.

Slow and gradual is always the best if natty. I stayed on maintenance for a while in 2018. Took my deadlift from 395 to 495 in a 12 to 18 months staying the same sort of weight. My physique changed. Later however, I was forced to add more calories (gradually) so that I can see performance go up. It is possible but you have to remember, what you see in the video may look good, on stage it's nothing. I'll post a stage shot soon and you'll see.

Lol. Not true. Every overall I've won I've had people from above weight classes that looked only a smidge bigger and in most cases, we looked similar sizes. Ofc, I know you won't believe me ; P

Back looks joocy. Your wingspan definitely looks longer than your height so that’s why your back is probably your best trait. Mirin hard habibi.

Thanks mate, def my genetic strong point. I've been training for almost 14 years (will be 14 in March) I conventional deadlift over 5 plates for reps which is over 3x my bw, I can do 1.5x my bw per hand with the farmers carry, I do lots of seal rows with well over my bw and I do lots of long RoM (close grip) pull ups with half my bw. I'm sure if you can do something similar it means A ) you're lean which makes you look bigger and B ) you'll have more than enough muscle mass if you can do what I stated on a consistant basis. I'm not saying that's the only way, but it sorta makes sense right ?

Deadlifts, pull ups, seal rows and farmers carries. I also do bent over lateral raises and shoulder presses which hit the upper back but indirectly !

OP your legs looked insane in that pic from yesterday but your back looks freakin' wild here!

This is also why I laugh at the whole 2-3 years of lifting to reach your natty limit cope that's constantly thrown around here. Pretty sure OP can confirm that he looked nothing like that after 3 years. That's years and years of grinding. Honestly your muscles look 100 times better, harder and denser than the water inflated juicebags anyway.

Thanks mate - In your honest opinion, my legs have gotten smaller ever since I stopped bro splitting and doing home workouts - agree ? Repped.

the 2-3 yrs not just thrown here, but the 'evidence based ' science *******s too keep parroting it. From my experience and from the natty bodybuilders that I know, it's more like 7-10 yrs of doing EVERYTHING right , emphasis on EVERYTHING. Most people spend the first 2-3 yrs fking around, program hopping, and getting injured from chit form.

OP is an awesome example of what can be achieved natty.

Thanks mate - appreciate it.

Not so popular view but.. I started out as broscience (2007) and around 2011 I started to worship Layne Norton (not anymore lol) - I got heavily into the science of lifting weights. At the end of the day, it's very simple. Literally do what works for you and have an open mind. I use a mix of broscience **** and evidence base.

I legit cherry pick to what make sense to me. EG: I count calories, I disregard macros. I lift until the muscle can't do another rep or experience form break down. The research says to do 15 total sets of blah blah blah.

I think even if you do **** so "sub optimal" but stay consistent (with intent), you'll get to your goal in 5 years as opposed to 3... Feel me?

Lmao at Layne Norton, he still picking fights online with influencers about calories in calories out...

I agree, and I do similar.

The thing about 'volume' or 'number of sets' research I believe it's not applicable to real life, but it's good in a lab.

e.g. 5 x sets of Leg extensions vs 5 x sets of Squats,...both are 5 sets of Quads work? Totally different effects.

e.g. 5 x sets of bench pres....how would they calculated the volume for triceps? or ... 5 sets to failure vs 5 sets of RPE8/..same volume but complete different stimulant.

I love how you focus on strength work and still got jacked as fuark. I had a phase where I was doing 4 x sets of 10 reps squats....then I reverted back to lower reps for compounds and higher reps for isolation, that seem to work well for me.

You inspire me to compete in BB novice...one day..!

I love how you focus on strength work and still got jacked as fuark. I had a phase where I was doing 4 x sets of 10 reps squats....then I reverted back to lower reps for compounds and higher reps for isolation, that seem to work well for me.

You inspire me to compete in BB novice...one day..!
Yeah exactly. I totally agree.

Everyone is different and the subjects they choose leave much to be desired.. I think lifting is super simple. The fitness industry complicates it. I also think "coaching" is all good here and there, but ultimately YOU know yourself best OVER time if you jot sh!t down. I write every thing down and almost always know when sh!t is gonna hit the fan or otherwise. I put notes next to my deadlifts of how I warm up, where to stand and even minor details that people would probably laugh at.

Yeah I did all that too bro, we all do and some of us still do. Nothing wrong with that but for me, I want to see my gym #'s go up and doing it how I do it is working and has worked since basically 2018 or 2019

Definitely do it bro and do the class that suits you. I'd love to do physique but I don't have the chad looking body or face. Classic physique suits me perfectly. Do what suits you and you'll do well imo

Thanks man, appreciate all your input!!

Would u ever share your routine with us? I know it's individual but we can learn from it.

I do an upper lower split (4 x days a week), with one of the lower days as a deadlift day so it's kina full body and I throw in some laterals and biceps work in that day too

Yeah ofc. Bare with me with how I'm gonna share my routine.. If I have too many paragraphs it says "error" lol. I do 2 full body splits. (Keep in mind I've trained bro splits from 2007 to 2013, then did some strength training routines until 2018)WORKOUT A:BACK SQUAT, HIP BELT SQUAT, CG BENCH, SEAL ROW, SEATED DB SHOULDER PRESS, SEAL ROW DB REAR RAISES, INCLINE DB CURLS, LEG CURLS...WORKOUT B:CONVENTIONAL DEAD, STRICT OHP, SSB GOOD MORNINGS, PULL UPS, INC DB BENCH, SEATED LATERAL RAISES, SKULL CRUSHERS, LEG EXTENSIONS.

Every now and then I'd throw in sand bag carry or farmers walk depending how fatigued I am. I take TWO days off to recover both physically and mentally. Thus keeping kinks and niggles at bay while also allowing recovery for progress. My compoudn movements are ONE top set and my isolations are 2-3 sets depending. If I get bored I'd switch a lift out or if I have an upcoming comp (this march, strongman) I'll switch it up. So lately, I've been doing 'singles' with axle clean and push press rather than strict presses. Also, barbell compounds are 3-5 reps, other stuff like hip belt or good mornings, incline db etc is 8-10 reps, and isolations 12-15 reps. (no right and wrong but I prefer this way) - I went a full year doing 5's on compounds, now I'm doing 3's. When I completely plateau I'll switch back to 5's.. I think that's it ?
