They had so many chances to clock the guy from behind, idk what they were doing going at him one by one

It was inevitable someone was going to get stabbed but while he's occupied should have hit him in the back of the head with a hard object not go at him 1 by 1

It's better than getting stabbed in the lungs or stomach. If you're confronted by someone with a knife and you have no weapon you need to realize you will likely get stabbed/slashed somewhere unless you're highly trained. Taking a slash in the arm to get close and try to disarm him/hurt him is better than getting a blade to your belly.

They were all responding surprisingly well. Using the shopping carts to, using improvised and designated weapons, numerous people intervening. The truth is a knife attack is extremely dangerous and if you have to engage someone with an edged weapon you are going to suffer cuts no matter what but if you can breath you can fight and that's what they did, pretty good for what looks to be untrained people.

No one is saying it's ideal, but if your in a moment where you need to survive, you do what you gotta do. You may not have anything laying around to throw, or even have the time to do so if he's charging at you.

If someone was trying to stab me, and I can't run away, I would throw hard objects at their face in hopes of knocking them out or I would get a longer weapon, such as a bat to defend myself.
