fact of matter is, these ppl aren't traders, and have the slightest clue on what to do. they bought positions simply because of fomo/greed. traders/people with a brain bought and took their profits a long time ago. but there are idiots like dave portnoy that are telling these poor ppl to continue holding losing positions on companies like gamestop, amc and nokia.....it's sad.

My in-laws were small business owners. They had a small motel down on the Texas coast. It was a devastating end to Stan Ovshinsky's vision when he founded the company in 1960, of creating energy sources that would be superior to those created by burning fossil fuels.

Butthe company's demise wasn't devastating to the hedge funds that began shorting the company's stock in 2008, when it was trading at $72 a share.

What ECD became for them, in the parlance of Wall Street, was a "Happy Meal."

According to a lawsuit filed in U.S. District Court in San Francisco in June, which is seeking class-action status, the short-selling was part of a scheme orchestrated by New York City-based Credit Suisse Securities LLC, which underwrote the public offering, and directly caused the company's demise.

The offering, said the suit, was a "fraudulent scheme to manipulate the common stock" and left ECD vulnerable to "massive and prolonged short attacks," the suit said.

The lawsuit said Credit Suisse and the lenders "manipulated the market for ECD stock by eliminating high borrowing costs that normally deter massive short-selling. The share-lending agreement allowed defendants to borrow common stock from ECD virtually for free."

Those doing a short sale are betting that the stock is going to lose value, and, boy, did ECD lose value.By the time the company filed for bankruptcy in February 2012, the suit alleges the short-selling had driven the share price to less than $1.

Yes the company was taking a beating from cheap Chinese solar panels, but they also were in a good cash position and held multiple patents w/I was told work in progress towards a couple of more potentially profitable patents.

The platforms making moves like this is probably the only thing that'll stop the regulators from straight up freezing the stocks

Volatility like this doesn't belong in stock markets. There should be risk, but not to this extent. The platforms and regulators will believe they're saving newbie retail investors from buying fukking GameStop stock at a $24billion+ valuation and then subsequently getting fleeced out of their money



This is the nature of speculating, someone will be left holding bags in the end and it'll be retail traders who have no idea what they're doing. I'm getting texts from people who NEVER talk to me about stocks, and now they're talking about GME / AMC / NOK / BB
