Sure they're fine. Robinhood selling user data to hedge funds isn't market manipulation at all. But users online joining together to coordinate trades the same way hedge funds do is market manipulation. Got it...

So you won't listen to someone who has done this for a living for 25 years and who regularly deals with the SEC due to my trading and the fact I have worked as a public stock consultant taking private companies public for over 15 years.

But you will listen to a WSB reddit board.

Ok then.

That was part of the deal signing up with RH.....you agree to letting your data be sold. That is why you get free trades and also the reason why I don't use RH.

Don't blame others for something you did.

I mean Tesla PE is like 1,666. SQ trades 155x earnings.

What are fundamentals lol.
Fundamentals would indicate these companies are massively overvalued and will come back down to reality eventually, the only question is when

It's probably no coincidence that Tesla is the other big name right now known for short squeezes and destroying shorts. But at least people can put some type of argument around Tesla, I mean surely their HVAC business will be a massive profit generator

Was thinking about holding GME over the weekend since I have just one share, but was thinking about cutting my losses on BB. Bought 50 shares when it was $26 (buy high sell low yeah yeah I know, I gambled what I could afford to lose tho.) Can't see it going back above $20.
Thoughts?
My thoughts are that you're trying to force trades instead of being calculated. Most of someone's portfolio who's young should be long term holds with solid / established companies. Keep your YOLO plays and trades to 10-20% of your total portfolio as most.

When it is an ORGANIZED pump, as in people working together? Like WSB? That is when it is illegal.

Same reason why penny stock promoters like Penny Stock Chaser got prosecuted and put in jail and heavily fined 8 years ago. They were organizing pumps to manipulate the market.

Those guys used to get $1 Million for a month long promo program and EVERYONE would buy the stocks they promoted. When they released a pick a stock would go up 1000% in 5 minutes.

Then the SEC cracked down.

I keep trying to tell you guys but no one seems to be listening. The brokerage houses are restricting trading on certain stocks because they are limiting their liability. They don't want a kid buying $500 k of GME on margin and the stock falling 80% and they have to cover a $400 K loss and they only have $50 k in the account. Trust me when I say this as someone who as dealt with compliance dept's from brokers for years. What the brokers are doing is completely normal. You just hear about it now because a bunch of novice traders who have no idea wtf they are talking about are complaining. But this has happened 1000s of times.

In fact the only real people in danger or being sued are the WSB crew by the SEC for stock manipulation.

RH is fine.
It's one thing to limit risk by not allowing trades on margin in a stock. It's entirely different to block all buying of a symbol even on cash, which should never be allowed.

And there seem to be a lot of people completely fed up with RH threatening to leave. Whether they do I guess we'll see, but I'm planning on moving on once most of this settles.

And obviously RH was going to be visible in this because of their dollar store brokerage model. Which might not bode well for them because they marketed their services to these same novices. Not legally, but just from the fickle nature of their clients.
That's the thing, it wasn't just margin accounts. They blocked all buying of the stock in any way whatsoever, regardless of your personal position or cash on hand. For the first half of the day yesterday, you couldn't even search the symbols they blocked on their platform. They only appeared if you were already holding over night and gave you the option to sell only. You could be a full cash account with plenty deposited and you still weren't allowed to search out the stock.

Yea, I dont understand why Robinhood Ceo didnt come out and say this more eloquently. Would have helped his case more, although they will still be hurt by being woefully unprepared for this.

I can't say since I don't use them. Maybe they didn't have the technology in place to distinguish what was cash vs. margin with a fast moving market and people putting money in or out of their accounts so they just restricted everything? Did the accounts actually have the cash in them, or was it just deposited and still on financial hold, etc? Or maybe they're snake illuminati. I dunno. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In any event, might be a good argument to go with a more reputable trading firm and not the dollar general of brokerages.

Think of a brokers Risk & Compliance dept the same as an insurance company's R & C dept. They do not want risk. At all.

So until things calm down this is how it will be.

Plus as I said, the SEC and brokers know that it isn't WSB behind all of this. They are little fish being used as a front man for the big fish.

It's shady. The sec and brokers want stable markets. Not chaos.

I told you guys the story where I had $3 M in my TD Ameritrade account and made 100s of trades a day with them, and one day I got a call from compliance and told me I was being kicked off of their platform. I had been a client for 17 years.

Reason? I was trading stock for my wife and a buddy in their accounts using the same IP address. My WIFE lol. She had all of $5000 in there, and my buddy maybe $20 K.

Didn't matter. They booted me.

Don't fawk around with the SEC or Compliance and I promise you they will put an end to this MEME frenzy.

Do this. Call up TDs Risk and Compliance Dept and ask them about all of this.

They will say the same things I just said.

Great advice srs, my overall outlook was weeks to months, not years. Will have to change that. And yeah I was forcing trades just cuz I had the money to do so, bad mentality.

Imagine being a broker with 13 million + users and you don't have the technology on hand to monitor whether a trader is using cash or margin.

LOL, no, they know full well. At worst they manipulated the market to save their partner investment firm, or at best they panicked because they have no clue what they're doing and too stupid to realize the effect their actions were going to have. Either way it's not a good look for someone you want to be custodian of your cash and investments.

I understand the desire to limit risk. But there is no risk to the broker for securities and assets purchased with cleared cash on account.

Doesn't matter much if RH did anything illegal or not. The perception to the masses will ruin them. They have 0 star rating in the app store and everyone is being told to remove funds and delete the app. Even if they face no legal troubles they are stuck in a PR nightmare and just lost a ton of reputation they had slowly built up over time.

Can I be completely honest? I think you're starting to lose your way and are chasing WAY too much chasing WSB gain porn. Looking back at your trading Id say that your best moves have been when you've had conviction in a stock and stuck with it (JKS even though you timed your trades a little poorly and Palantir). Just my 0.02, tell me to fuk off if I'm out of line (completely srs).

Just my 0.02, tell me to fuk off if I'm out of line (completely srs).
I never chase. Especially stocks already up 5000%.

I buy at bottoms. And add if it dips more. And then sell on the way up.

Very profitable strategy and I sleep stress free at night.

I've come to realize that this is the way. I choose something that I have conviction in and scale in on dips and live a pretty stress free investing life.

I just noticed that AMD was on Robinhood's restricted list today. AMD. Seriously? How do they even justify that one?

I've read some tweet that hedge funds were heavy on AMD puts and have now switched to calls. If this information is reliable at all, then what a fukin chit show.

Whats different from a message board, than someone like Graham -Something- on youtube saying these are my stock pics and I expect it to have huge upside potential in the next 3 months. He has 3m subs.

Or Stock Moe shilling NIO and TSLA to his 300k Subs

genuinely curious, because likely his subs and followers will buy, but they have the option not to, just like people viewing on WSB

in a way it similar to hedge funds coordinating an attack on a stock right? only it takes a million people to have enough funds to go up against a hedge fun
