The settlers came from nothing, mostly out of necessity because they would die if the didn't struggle. Whereas when you are given anything for free you end up taking advantage of it and the drive to make it on your own lessens and you just get more cunning to get free stuff. Which can be blamed psychologically speaking as it takes less energy and resources to get something for free than it does to work for it.

Mostly to justify the superiority of your own socialized system (nations are like humans in that respect I think and like to think of themselves as better than those around them).

Eligibility for Medicaid phases out by income level. If you can't afford private health insurance (and this is calculated very generously), the government gives it to you for free, if you can afford private health insurance, the government will not give it to you for free and you are required by law to buy it (or pay a large penalty).

what a boring life it would be, everyone the exact same, everyone lives in the same house everyone does the exact same. No motivation to do anything significant. However i do believe that billionares should be capped, but thats about it
