I have been thinking about getting into playing. I am a huge music fan but can't play a lick. I had pretty bad weakness and coordination in my left ring and pinky fingers. Any tips?

Everyone starts out with weaker, uncoordinated hands and it's something which you develop over time.
The more songs you play and exercises you work on, the stronger your fretting and picking hands will become.
I found that running chromatic scales and 'inverted' chromatic scales up and down the neck helped. Along with the stretching exercises like those in Petrucci's Rock Discipline.
I'm sure the second solo in The Trooper has some trill sections which I found great for developing strength in individual fingers and it isn't too difficult for an early intermediate to learn.
I also started out wth a cheap acoustic that had action a mile high. It was a pain at first but paid dividends when I moved onto a more expensive electric guitar with a proper set up. Trying to fret as a beginner on that acoustic developed finger strength for sure.

It's tough to struggle with high string height, frets that buzz, all sorts of odd things that can go wrong. If you have proper left hand technique (efficient and light touch), scallops make zero difference in speed. If you have ****ty left hand technique, then your intonation will be sharp all over the place and you'll get caught between the strings.
An argument could be made that one with poor technique would benefit from scallops because they need to press lighter to play in tune and be more precise to not get tangled between strings, but in my experience, if these people can't hear it, they won't fix it - scallops or not.
Scallops do do make a difference for bending, for a variety of reasons. You can pretty easily get a 2 or 2.5 step bend on the G-string at the 2nd fret with the 1st finger by hooking the finger, for example.

I remember never using my pinky at all when I played, and this exercise made me start using my pinky.

The harmonic at the 12th fret is not the pitch you adjust, though. It's the fretted 12th fret. The harmonic node is based on the open string length, so if you use the harmonic method, you tune the string using the harmonic and then you adjust the intonation based on the 12th fret note's comparison with the harmonic.

Picked this gem up on the nylon guitar recently:
Just the intro, chorus and then improvised some chords for the electric guitar sections. The tablature seemed quite off so half was just by ear. Really great song, great band too.
I used to pick up songs by ear all the time, I've sort of lost that passion now though and will go straight to tablature but it did help me a lot to develop my ear.
I am really starting to enjoy my nylon guitars again. I love the simplicity in the design, durability and the low maintenance.

No man has the right to be an amateur in the matter of physical training. It is a shame for a man to grow old without seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable.

Been enjoying the Axe Fx 3 a LOT, but the feel in room just didn’t quite compare with the thump of my 5153 100s through a 2x12
Until
I added a 10 inch subwoofer to the monitor setup that I use for the Axe. If any of you use modelers, throw a sub in the mix to get a bit of that amp in the room sound, because it really did the trick. The low chugs of a high gain patch really hits you like an amp, it was an instant smile.

My axe/computer setup is a bit away from my amp/cab setup and I like having the usb setup for recording/access to axe edit.
I should probably run some cables across the room and give that a try too

I'm "done" at this point (or so I tell myself now lol) but srs this gets me every sound I need. From here if I ever needed more shaping I'd probably be better served by moving to a Helix/Kemper/Axefx.
Only potential upgrade is the pedalboard. Proud of this homemade one but may jump to metal someday.

I had a homemade board, then threw it away during the last move. I'm only playing at home now, I don't play live anywhere or lug gear to friend's places to play so my pedals are just sitting on the carpet in front of my amp. Though when I go down the rabbit hole of watching pedal reviews it does make me want to get a metal board too.

Though when I go down the rabbit hole of watching pedal reviews it does make me want to get a metal board too.
Smooth Seas don't make Strong Sailors. Keep your head up.
MrWhiskey24 for jolly cooperation (PS)

Ive been playing through my computer for a while. Had podfarm 2.0 for ~10 years, finally looked into what other amp sims where out there. There are A TON of free metal amp sims and impulse reponses (IRs) that are incredible.
- STL emissary (free)
-lepou has several free amps, I really like their engl powerball sim (free)
If you are looking for some sick metal amp sims, I would check out the offerings of audio assault. Their hellbeast and Sigma amps are like $7 each right now. they come with very good IR's, as well as tube screamers & effects in their standalone packages.
If you are struggling to get a good tone w/ I would also highly recommend the "guitar tone mastery" course by chernobyl studios. worth every penny. it goes through a lot of stuff I would have never thought of on my own. it also comes with several impulse response packages that are killer.
FYI, IR's are a good 70% of your tone when playing direct. If you dont want to spend money on amp sims, it is worth your time to invest a little in some IRs.
Ive been struggling to get a good country style tone through direct input, does anyone know of some good cheap/free tweed amp sims and IRs, or a good delay/compressor sim to use? most of the delay and compressors I find have wayyyy to many settings.
Also, you can get DIRT cheap guitar accessories through aliexpress. Im talking guitar pedals/clones for $20, brass saddles, nuts, locking tuners, pots, etc.
