Okay, my bad. Forgive my english knowledge since it's not my first lang.
I thought it means it's rated far below what it actually deserves. What I meant to say is that many people haven't even heard of this movie, but those who have seen it mostly agree it's great.
Thanks for clarification.

Underrated?

I don't know, most GOOD movies are rated highly.

A lot of Chirstian Bale movies sitting at 7.7 I'd rate higher

There thread is about which movies that are rated mediocre (in terms of awards, box office and public/critic rating) that you believe deserve to be rated higher. It's a way of getting people to share movies that they believe are overlooked gems.

What constitutes a good movies is intersubjective but not objective.

'Batman Forever' and 'Batman and Robin'. It was great to see the Timothy Drake styled costume in live action even though they made it Dick Grayson. Then in 'Batman and Robin' it was more of a Nightwing style. Then you got the hot Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl.

They are pretty campy but it's comic books. Grab some popcorn and have fun with it.

There's a lot of tragic comedy in them. That's what drama is supposed to be about.

I'm of course not saying they are Shakespeare level or anything but they are fun films.

You also get a good dose of Arni with his cold puns.

The one major flaw of B&R was Bane. He's shouldn't have been a mindless oaf. He's supposed to be smart as well as strong.

I have a firm opinion that almost every film has at least some good scene to offer. You just have to approach them with an open mind.

Pan's Labyrinth

Critically acclaimed but didn't win an academy award for best picture, and is therefore underrated.

I just finished watching 'The Amazing Spider-Man' and 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2' and they were actually quite good. Kinda silly at times but they were fun.

I was never a big fan of Andrew Garfield but he really did a pretty good job. He was great in Hacksaw Ridge as Desmond Doss.

I wasn't that keen on Emma Stone back in the Superbad day either but she's really grown on me. I saw an interview with her and apparently she has vocal trouble sometimes, prone to laryngitis or something but she has kinda a hot voice. She looks pretty good as a blonde. It was nice to see Spider-Man without Mary Jane. Gwen Stacy is pretty cool.

Spoiler!
It was super sad that Gwen died near the end

I have been racking my brain trying to think of an appropriate film to post in this thread and it’s left me realising just how rare a truly underrated film is.

Any film with any quality will have at least a small section of fans out there who appreciate it.

Anyway, I think i’ve come up with a film that somewhat fits the bill:

Outside of myself, I do not know many people who rate Sunshine. I found it really fukin’ enjoyable. I put off watching it for ages because no one had anything good to say about it. After I saw it I was literally like “W T F.... that was brilliant”.

It’s the best sci-fI / space film to come out in the 2000s, IMO. It ****s all over Interstellar (which has a ridiculous amount of fans and praise despite being pretty meh).

The film owes a lot of it’s success to it’s simplicity. It’s a classic setup of a small crew setting out on a ship to complete a mission, and the journey is laden with obstacles and challenges. Really fukin’ simple stuff, but it works well.

What tends to make or breaks these kind of films is if you have balls characters. Fortunately, the crew in Sunshine is comprised of an interesting bunch of characters with unique personalities and ticks (I always lol when Chris Evan’s character jibes that the doctor is the most insane guy on the ship).

The film is also visually stunning. It’s been a while since i’ve seen it but I recall it had some interesting use of colours and the ever growing presence of the sun added something special.

I vaguely remember that the film was criticised for turning into a ‘slasher’ film towards the end, but - speaking personally - I think it fits in perfectly well with the rest of the film and culminates things nicely.

I generally haven’t the foggiest why more people don’t like it, but I suspect it might not appeal to ‘nit picker’ types because the film has some science stuff that is probably completely ridiculous.

I share you opinion, and I've experienced that with a lot of low budget bad films.

I watched Dead or Alive (I used to be a fan of the computer game), and I though the film was crap apart from this scene. The director and choreographer told a story with this fight scene, I wish the rest of the movie was on this level...

I really found that film to be pretty boring overall but Ripley's sacrifice to get rid of the alien was pretty cool.

It sucked that they killed off Hicks, Newt and Bishop in the opening scene. That kinda pissed me off.

Especially Newt, she deserved to live happily ever after.

You thought that was good? Ridiculous slo mo, stupid cuts to some chick doodling, horrible fight choreography. The only thing going for that clip is the skimpy bikinis and gratuitous crotch close ups.

Contact.

IDK how underrated it is considered but I just finished re-watching it on YouTube. It's free with ads.

Based on the Novel by Carl Sagan. RIP.

I think I had the theme stuck in my head a few days ago but couldn't think of what it was. Probably because I had watched a few scenes a few weeks back. Once I got to the end I realized "This has got to be Alan Silvestri" The same guy that did the Forrest Gump score, very similar. Then watching the credits it was confirmed.

Excellent film. It explores the ideas of science vs faith as well as the importance of human contact, loss of loved ones, government and professional corruption, perseverance in the face of obstacles, etc.

I have sampled every language and French is my favorite to curse in.

Most popular? Wtf are you talking about - most people have never heard of it. It is well reviewed.....and not well known. Hence the literal definition of underrated.
