Would you go to a funeral of someone you didn't like? Srs

So brahs, I sorta dun goofd.

Tldr so here's cliffs:
Gf has big family
Member of said family (not directly related) killed themselves recently
I didn't like him and the family knew
Got asked to go to his funeral and I said no
Big argument so I ended with "if I never liked him it wouldn't be right of me to go"
All hell breaks loose

I am heartless

I agree with you, but I'm an autistic FA ******* so what the fuk do I know.

Funerals are about showing respect to the deceased. If you don't respect them, don't fukking pretend you do. If you don't even know who they are, don't fukking pretend you do (God, social media is so performative about that chit).

Heartlessness is fine. But that's not being heartless. That's just being a pain in the ass. In this situation, you're not attending the funeral out of any sort of respect for the deceased. You're attending to be comfort to your girlfriend. That's where the obligation lies. It has nothing to do with the dead *******.

I wouldn't go just for the fun of it no

But in a situation where someone you care about is distraught you should go and be there to support them, disregarding your personal qualms with the deceased.

That's life with a significant other, whether it's a funeral, visiting her parents, dinner with her friends, etc. Half the chit you do with her in life is going to be stuff you have to tough out. It fukking sucks, but it's life.

It doesn't matter if she has all the friends and family in the world to comfort her. You're the boyfriend. You have to be there for her.

"I don't really give a chit about person A dying, we weren't super close"

"I didn't even like person B so I really dont care"

I would if they were important to those important to me. They need emotional support, I’m a very empathetic person but I think it’s also a common courtesy.

Understand that but if its someone I literally thought was a waste of oxygen (no job, lived off the benefit, drank and smoked daily, constantly annoyed me and talked about how he just wants to fight people etc) then I couldn't attend that funeral without showing i didn't wanna be there.

Had a mate kill himself a couple months ago and people who didn't like him started posting about how much he meant etc. People are fake asf

Me sitting there with no emotion and wanting to leave as soon as possible wouldn't be much support. As said above^

I find that more disrespectful to act like you were friends and go to funeral etc than not turn up at all.

Was in a weird situation like this a year ago. I ultimately decided it wasn't so much about our non-existent friendly relationship and more about paying respects and supporting others who were mourning. I'm glad I went, YMMV.

Yes gf asked me to go with her and I said no due to me having 0 respect for the deceased, her cousins knowing I don't and it wouldn't be right for me to go

You just sitting there and not giving any condolences is a personal choice. Generally ppl will appreciate the effort you made just to show up tho.

I wouldn't go if I hated someone. My girlfriend could be a big girl and stick it out with the rest of her family by her side. Fukk I don't even go to weddings of people I do like. I'll send a card with a check. I hate social gatherings of all sorts.

Motherfukker is dead, quit being such an ******* and just pretend you are sorry the wanker died.

And support your girlfriend it’s not about her needing support it’s about YOU showing YOU are there for her.

Or if you are happy being you do that, but normal people do what I said above.

"Pretend you are sorry" thats where I think its more disrespectful than not showing up at all. If I was at a funeral and someone turned up while knowing they had no respect and didn't like the deceased id tell them to fuk off. They aren't there to pay respect so why be there at all

No *******, cuz most people are sorry when somone dies. EVEN SOMONE THEY DONT LIKE.

You don’t have to like somone to be like “damn, dude didn’t deserve to die, sorry.”

Being some edge lord going “I didn’t like that *******” is just disrespectful and shows an ugly almost sociopathic autistic side of you, that will make most people turn away from you. Even more so if it’s actually authentic. Especially people with good character.

No, I knew him. I met him a few times and everytime I had to tell him to fuk off. He drank and smoked everyday, lived off the benefit, talked so much chit and kept wanting to fight people to see how tough he was. I had 0 respect for him and the family knew that

So your friends would appreciate it all the more so if they knew you didn’t even like him. If you don’t want to go so bad then don’t go, lol. Especially if you can’t hide how much it bothers you being there.

But hey... at the end of the day this is all just advice...
