Ontario Lawyer brahs. How much power do the authorities have to enforce the mask rule
Just curious. Now that my gym is reopened we're all supposed to be wearing masks, my gym put up a poster saying we can be subject to an $880 fine from the ontario public health unit.
So theoretically say if I'm not wearing my mask, gym manager gets mad, calls the cops, I put mask on, cops show up, never see me not wearing a mask, they start questioning me
In a situation like this do I need to present ID if asked? I was under the impression you don't have to unless a cop cites a specific law you are breaking or has reasonable cause
Basically what are my rights in this situation?

Yes, if they tell you that they are investigating an offence you are required to identify yourself. If not, you'll be charged criminally with obstruction (Section 129 of the Criminal Code)... a lot worse than a mask fine.
And the manager can give a statement, they don't need to see you breaking the law. The manager is protecting himself, the fines are much higher for business owners, risk of being shutdown, etc.

Surely he wouldn't be smart enough to film you not wearing it before calling the cops on you so it just becomes your word against his.
Edit - Not to mention the probably dozen or so security cameras in the place

Believe me, the police are way too busy to care about that. They are not going to find you after the fact and give you a ticket The mask thing, given current political climate may be different, but they are not responding to a guy in a gym not wearing a mask if they have other calls...and most reasonably sized police forces in this province are literally call to call all day.So if someone tells them I am drunk in the public they can attempt to charge me with public intoxication?

Canada opened concentration camps this week.
I don’t think personal civil rights are a thing in Canada anymore.
It’s clear that they can bend laws to suit whatever narrative they presently push. So even if someone can find a law for which you could shelter under I doubt the government would allow you to use it in your defence.
Your options are limited:
Flee the country
Obey

I don't support what you're trying to pull here. I've answered the question, wear a mask.

honestly don't think so brah
i think most of these BS charges will be thrown out eventually esp. if you lawyer up
i believe ontario also states that if you're unable to wear a mask due to a medical condition, they cant question you/ask for proof, or force you to wear one
its pretty comical how people freak out about people not wearing masks, yet feel safe when people wear cloth masks which are penetrated by 97% of particles coming out of your mouth
i am not a lawyer or a scientist

Your gym can kick you out for any reason. It's their property. Don't be a ******* and try to break their rules. If it was your business you'd feel the same way. Every man is king in his own castle.
As to what the cops can do to you on public or your house, that's a different story. But we live in a far from fair or just society at this point, and the answer to what the legal system can do to you is: whatever the **** it wants. Lol at you if you think a judge is going to go "hey that's not fair what was done to that guy" in 2021.
