Oil hitting these prices with flight demand so low is probably something to think about as well. When things open up again and pent up travel demand is released, I won't be shocked if supply struggles to keep up

If I figure out how and decide I care to spend the time to, I'll post a pic of the tickers for you. Like I said, I'm just a beginner. I'm not trying to give financial advice and I don't even care if you take me seriously or not. <3

BRB making investments based on which side of the bed a Saudi gets up on. Lol.
There is healthy backwardation in the markets for the time being however.
Just wait however until the big oil companies that became big energy companies come to Congress and tell them to poke the eye of the big oil that stayed big oil.
No one in this thread seems to remember Biden likes the $10.25 bbl tax I guess? Lmao.

If you want to venture into Canadian O&G, Suncor is the best value buy out of our big three IMO
Stock price is still subdued because they halved their dividend last year. If WTI remains at $50/barrel, cash flow isn't going to be an issue and I'd expect that dividend to be fully reinstated in the near future. If prices stay at $60+, our producers are hugely cash flow positive in an environment like that

I probably said our oil production doesn't depend on the price of WTI because of the nature of our industry. We build massive mines that cost tens of billions up front but are sitting on proven oil reserves that will last 15-20 years, so we don't require significant capital spending to continue production. Companies like CNQ and SU can just sit in one spot pumping out barrels while executing shutdowns to switch out equipment and piping, and that's the type of stuff I'm working on nowadays. And the longer they operate, the further down they drive breakeven $/bbl costs.
Actually gearing up for a CNQ shutdown right now

I heard the ability to produce is closely tied to profitability ><
I mean I guess it would suck to be in a country so devoid of innovation and investment potential that you’re looking around and it’s like eh, I guess it’s either the crappy banks we have or the crappy oil we have.
It’s kind of understood Canada is fukked, even Trudeau’s candyass had to realize Canada has no option but to keep pushing oil and pray on a shooting star it works out.
Can’t do solar, can’t do onshore wind, can’t do nuclear. What’s a sad Canuck to do?
Good luck with the oil in the 5 year time frame, and I’m crossing my fingers and clicking my heels hoping they raise that dividend

And then there's the two pipelines we have going, TransMountain and Enbridge's Line 3 twinning. If even just TransMountain is completed, I'd expect further gains through increased market access and hopefully a lower differential + capacity for production increases. And other factors in the heavy crude market, what's happening with Mexican and Venezuelan blends mainly
Disclaimer that I work in this industry and have incentive to be bullish. But I don't think my assessment is unrealistic and truly believe the Canadian oil business model is strong

Anyone buy BUZZ? The new ETF that buys stock in company via their “value” thru social media. No idea how they determine the value, but I guess based on algorithms and such. Seems like a gimmick but Portnoy is behind and anything he touches turns to gold.

So what do you guys think is gonna be the market reaction to the Powell talk?
I see SPY crashing for one..
Though we started the day with like 20 stocks all crashing and bouncing as an identical group already so everyone pre-emptively kinda reacted.
But now it’s even more red again.
Who bought spy puts? Lol can’t wait till I learn calls and puts.

Whole market is bouncing on thin edge on bond market battle.
TLT has massive volume right now.
If that shiit doesn't bounce.
Everything will sell off.
I am cash gang now.

My angus was not prepared for that. Down 15% and still dropping. Going to hold, not sweat over this anymore, and add more cash when the smoke clears.

It is kind of interesting to see the doom and gloom themed posts. Even with the week's poor trajectory, VT/VTWAX has returned to price levels not seen since...
...last month (February 2nd).
