Why do people pursue business's degrees?
Excluding accounting and supply chain for discussion.
For finance, I'm referring to those who go to a small no name school where if you graduate, your best bet is to get hired as an insurance salesman.

The ONLY way to make it in accounting is if you eventually partner with someone to open a CPA firm. Otherwise lol @ working in accounting.

My wife finished a business degree recently Masters with a healthcare focus. She's a nurse manager though on track for director and potentially CNO one day.
So I mean if you're in a position with an opportunity for management promotions the business degree is useful. Starting out with a Bachelors's in business seems weird though.

Lmao at putting in 100s of extra hours studying accounting, then 2 more years studying for a CPA, only to get a $60k per year pre tax salary with a big 4 cuck firm. That's if you are lucky.
Meanwhile chad marketing degree major makes $60k per year as a salesman brah right out of school, coasting through school barley studying with a 2.5 GPA.
If you don't get a big 4 job right out of graduation OP, say hello to your $20 hour bookkeeping job for Mr Schecklstein lmao.

You're kind of right though that the amount of investment (time and effort, education level, etc) for theaverageCPA salary is...a pretty laughable ROI.

Idk if this refers to me since I'm STEM, but I'm set to start MBA program this coming fall. Many of my superiors at work have it and recommend it and I'd like to eventually transition out of technical roles into management.
Employer pays for most of it and I pay something like ~10% out of pocket so it seems like a no brainer.

Lol @ criticizing accountants. They are one of the smarter and hardest business degrees.
You have to slave your first 1-3 years in big 4 but after that you can easily make $85-$100k at a boutique working 35-40 hrs a week. The best thing about it is it’s a support role. There’s no real stress of trying to make the company money. Just do your reconciliations and month end tasks and it’s smooth sailing. The work can be boring though but your opportunities are endless and you’ll never be out of a job. BRB every firm needs an accounting department. BRB this thread is cope cause op couldn’t pass intermediate accounting in uni.

Have had strategy meetings with senior leadership at companies and literally have heard “don’t bring so and so on for Y project, they think like an accountant” or have an “accountant mentality”. Basically means they are black and white thinking foot soldiers, but not the ones leading the ship
Accountants just generally don’t have the dna of Innovators, leaders, decision makers, creatives, etc. nothing wrong with that, but they just don’t. A high end finance professional has that ability as well as the accountant knowledge

They want to run a business. There is nothing inherently wrong with the idea of a business degree. It's just that it's an incredibly unrigorous degree. Economics is probably the better option, but even then, it's a pretty unrigorous degree unless you do quantitative econ and take analysis.
