$100k is more than enough in most places in the US. Even somewhere with high cost of living if you budget correctly. Most MISCers feel like they need to hit $200k (which a very small percentage of the population attain like <10% of US population) because of terrible budgeting and poor choices. In reality like <5% of MISCers probably make $100k.

Females in sales are ****ing absurd if they actually know what they're doing.

I've heard some great stories from company owners talking about how females they hire can get access no guy ever could.

So yeah in order to get some decent capital together and even start to escape the wage slave spiral you need around $200k because you’ll be paying for everything yourself with no govnerment support whatsoever at that point

Actually it’s the people in the middle - not poor but still exchanging their hours for money - that get screwed the hardest.

A lot of high earners do things that look like terrible budgeting to lower income earners but in reality are not.

I have cleaners, laundry service, accountant (even though I did my honours in tax law) and even a dog walker. We often have meals out or delivered. We each have cars that some would consider unnecessarily expensive because we can’t “afford” the inconvenience of them being less than 100% reliable

I do zero gardening or maintenance even though I am more than capable

Even big expenses on housing are justifiable if the family home is tax exempt (as it is here)

All cost money and when I was a junior I did all myself but the cost is now nothing compared to the time we save

Heard on podcast once:
'Value your time by an hourly rate. If an activity (cooking, cleaning, returning an item at the store) will net you an outgoing expense either by money leaving your account or by time lost that could otherwise have been spent making money - outsource or don't do the activity' (paraphrased)

Example:
You can make 80/hr
gardening takes you 2 hours. = 160
gardening takes a gardener 1 hour but he charges 100/hour.
You should pay the gardener bc you save 2 hours and are able to make 160 - 100 = 60.

Can't imagine doing a cost benefit analysis for every activity I do in my life, but I realise that when you own your own business that's 24/7

Unless you’re literally retarded or having multiple dependents you should be able to survive.

However, $100k is the new $45k. It is absolutely not going to be getting you ahead of the curve in any appreciable manner.

Didn't crack $100k until I was like 32. Married at 24, first kid at 26, second at 30. Wife stayed home with kids and I made between $30k - $50k in my 20's.

While that was mid-90's so the money went a bit further, I still had a $1k mortgage payment, $300 car payment, cable, etc.

From my experience the more money I've made, the more I was able to put away from retirement and the more non-essential stuff we did like vacations and eating out. Should the money dry up I imagine we'd cut back to just the basics again.

the answer is it all depends on what you want, where you live and how you budget

sometimes trading more money for more time by buying services (eating out, cleaning etc) is sometimes worth it if you use the time wisely

Your salary isn't the most important factor. The most important factor is your spending and investing habits. If you make 40k per year and you put the extra away in solid investments then you will outpace the guy who makes 100k per year who wastes his money

Back in my mid 20s I was making a salary of 50k in Jersey City (2 miles outside of Manhattan) and I was still saving over $1,000 a month. Now I make $76k in Boca Raton and living a really nice middle upper class life. Anyone who can't live comfortably on 100k a year is a fuking idiot.

Smart for thinking about retirement. Every time I get a raise I tweek up my 401k contribution another %.

Most people that earn more just spend more leaving everything else the same. On top of that it blows my mind how many people pull their 401k early. I know a few guys I work with in their 50s that pulled their 401ks to pay for college or something for their kids. Umm u wot m8, have them take out loans don't gut your retirement. 100K/yr is what, a little over $8300 a month, depending on your tax situation, healthcare, benefits, you are looking at about $5K a month. If you are having a problem on that, you have some srs 1st world problems. Another thing is that if the only places you can make that kind of income is to live in a place where it's really expensive to live, mayby you really aren't 100K material, but are just 60K material but adjusted because of where you live, so you need to give up your baller lifestyle.

$200k is the new 100k srs.

200k = $12k/month after taxes

- $3000 investing
- $4000 mortgage
- $1000 food/restaurants
- $2000 hobbies/entertainment
- $1000 utilities/internet/cell/misc home fixes
- $1000 car/insurance/gas

$300k is where you see the magic start to happen.

Honestly if you say otherwise you are a poorcell and probably live in some sh!thole country or state.

Of course, as $400K it gets even better. Not arguing the top, arguing the bottom. I think a lot of people have a spending problem and a confusion between needs and wants. Here is the thing about how those people are. It really doesn't matter if they make 100K, 200K, 300K+, as long as this spending problem exists, they will always have the problem, because it's not the income that is the problem, it's their spending. It will just increase as they make more. Kind of like lottery winners. The fact that most of them are the types that play the lottery with the beseline of what's wrong with them and why most of them end up bankrupt. Not that I'm any kind of role model myself. I tend to spend stupidly sometimes but at least I know where I mess up.

Yep that’s the basic middle class moron. Start from college making 50k or whatever, double or triple it in their careers. But:

- have to get a bigger house with multiple guest bedrooms that will be used 3 days of the year tops

- have to get a “home improvement” project every year because you’re bored of the way the kitchen looks. Convince yourself it’s an “investment” so don’t mind spending more money on it

- I work hard and deserve a luxury car. Pay 40-50k, or go Into debt over it,for a depreciating asset that gets you from point a to point b no better than a 10 year old Camry

- kids deserve the best. Send them to private school! $8k a year or more for something that has no better outcomes than public (exceptions being for city cels in dog chit districts)

- have some extra money sitting around? Vacation home it is!

- put little as possible down on buying homes or cars because “free money” and “better off investing at a higher rate”. Dont actually invest difference

All of the above guaranteed negative returns. Meanwhile buy real estate? Too risky! Invest in stock market outside of 401k? Might as well be at a casino! Up 401k contributions? Life’s too short live for today!

If you make 70k+ Your entire career aka good obtainable but not fantastic salary, and you aren’t ready to retire by 55 financially, you fudged up

Agree buy why focus so much on cutting expenses? You can only cut so much

Focus on offense and building income. Income is infinite

People who focus on defense will remain poor, people who focus on offense will become rich.

I guess my point is play good defense, but focus the majority of your effort on playing exceptional offense.
