yup american has the same "academy" You go to a flight school. Do all the training. Take all of the checkrides (pilot flight & oral knowledge exams, where failure stays on your record) for your multiple required licenses. Grind instructing other people until you reach 1500 flight hours which generally takes 1-2 years. fly with a regional airline as a First officer for 1-3 years. Upgrade to captain. Grind til you have thousands of pilot in command (captain) hours. Then you go on to a major like American or United.


Now if United wants to give others the opportunity that didn't know were even possible or how to get started then I say good for them. The applicants still have to do the work.

Pretty good route for someone without military experience. If things do go south and you don't end up flying, you're pretty much guaranteed a job with the airline.

Not anymore. Depends on the race.

The major problem I see is related to the credentials required for certain military positions and fire fighters. They've had to lower the requirements for females for starters.

Will the same thing apply to pilots training? Of course it's not that physical of a job, but I think it's a legit question. Will the credentials and testing requirements change and I know the liberal response will be no, of course not....for now, unless there ever becomes a pilot shortage. Then it miraculously becomes easier to be a pilot.
