I had it happen to me only once in my life, when I was in my late 20s. I think it was a demon.

When I was a teenager, a friend and I were messing with black books of magic, AKA Whitchcraft. We got the candles and all that crap. Some odd things happened, and there was a point where something let me know I'm not untoucable. I learned that if you invite them, all bets are off. Another time my girl and I were watching all these paranormal things on the web where people were doing chants and sayances (sp) and such. That's when the sleep paralysis thing happened to me.

I don't know if there is something that separates us from them, some kind of rule system, something that protects us, or what, because most of us are safe from it, but if you go about inviting or allowing it, things change.

I pray every night before bed, and I eat an absolute chitload of garlic (like almost a clove a day), maybe that's why I only got paralysis a few times with no figures or anything lol

If it ever happens to me hopefully I'll remember discussing it on the misc and call it a ******* and report back
Would kick em in the nuts

You can get sleep paralysis from taking too much diphenhydramine.

I've had it a few times throughout my life, nothing weird aside from not being able to move. Praying? You're just doing something with your brain aside from being scared so it pulls you out faster. Remember lyrics or family guy quotes, whatever.

Demons lol your brain is still semi dreaming. Of course you're gonna freak out when you can't move and hallucinate. That's all your dreams are.

Have had it probably 100+ times at this point. It’s not fun. Sometimes I get nothing hearing or vision wise... just trapped. I always wiggle my toes though and slowly break out which is a horrible sensation typically.

Rarely my hearing will be in dreamland and that’s probably been the worst of the experiences.. but they’re few and far between. Visuals I get a lot of shadows moving but nothing too crazy.

I’ve gotten a lot better at dealing with it and even got use to it at one point... weirdly it stopped happening as much when I did

Idk opie maybe you’re right.
Interesting theory, but the discrepancies between an actual lucid dream and SP remain. That's not to say emotions don't play a role.

The hearing aspect is so weird and hard to explain

I use to have sleep paralysis on a daily basis, but not so much lately. I noticed it's when I am stressed I usually get them.

Nothing supernatural about it but it can be a scary experience. Experience it from time to time.

My hunch is there is some kind of force field that separates us from "them" or "it", the supernatural/paranormal universe no one can prove, but neither can disprove either. And agree, if you invite these forces in, they will come. Important to be careful what you ask for.

I've done both lucid dreaming and had sleep paralysis. Both of which happened only a few times. However, what frequently occurs now is I wake up not being able to breath, gasping for air. Now that's a bummer. It feels like my throat is legit closed and I'm choking to death. I'm afraid I won't wake up in time to start breathing again and I could die from this.

I also get Exploding Head Syndrome. I can't stand those episodes. It's so weird. I also get seizures the moment I start to fall asleep. It happens frequently but only lasts within a split second though.

On another note, I also get restless leg syndrome on occasion. And that weird creepy, crawling feeling from it also occurs in my arms and shoulders. I renamed it restless limb syndrome.

So yeah, getting to sleep sucks. But once I start dreaming, it's cool. My dreams are always vivid. If there is lucid dreaming it happens in the early morning at the end of the sleep cycle when dreaming is the heaviest and prior to waking up. It doesn't happen often and you have to put in real conscious effort, but it's actually pretty cool if you can get to that point.

It's weird how my experience with sleep paralysis align so much with other people's experience... Seeing a shadow, trying to scream but no sound, realizing it's not real yet trying to wake up and not being able to. First time I experienced sleep paralysis I felt myself slipping off the side of my mattress and falling into oblivion. Other times I'd just see shadows while sitting down in the middle of a dark street. Luckily my sleep paralysis was caused by not getting enough sleep after partying substances, so I don't get them anymore since I'm a good boy now.

Well the body sometimes camt keep up with the brain neurologically some you are unable to move briefly.

And you were asleep few seconds ago thus still connected to your subconscious. That part explains the weird noises you might hear and scary stuff you might see

Edit: though Ive had a weird experience with it once. I heard a loud breathing noises near me and the door below that I remember 100% that I closed before sleep was wide open. There was no wind is house, all windows& doors were sealed. I searched the whole house with my gun for a burglar but couldnt find anything also nothing was stolen.

Still weird

the fact that everyone is reporting the same type of symptoms should already be a strong clue it's merely some effect of being in a dreamlike state

we're all part of the same species after all, so on average our brains will also work the same, it's all statistics boyo

I've had some strange experiences. I've typed them out here a few times before so won't go into great detail. First time was 10ish years ago, saw this cloaked figure with an orange hue all throughout the room. We exchanged a few thoughts, can't remember what, but I was inching back towards my sleeping puppy who was between my wife and I. For an instant I said "I know what you're trying to do, you're trying to get me to hurt my dog" and it laughed, disappeared, and the hue "lifted." When someone recounts any type of weird experience and says the room "lifts" that's the best way to describe it.

Last few times were more recent. Had more "simple" encounters where I feel like I was being "buzzed" in my neck purposefully. The last time was about a year ago where I felt like I was being carried. I'm not a small dude and the sensation was just so bizarre. In all of these more recent experiences the only way I got rid of them was repeating they didn't have permission to be here over and over and it just stopped. The "lifting" sensation was there again, like if I blinked a few times to gather myself it was there and in an instant it was gone. Almost like for a split second I was somewhere else that was my exact same bedroom and almost instantly I was back to my normal world.

interesting srs. like other Miscer ive had sleep paralysis a bunch of times too. and everytime is sucks so bad. there's been a few times where I've realised that ok I've got sleep paralysis just relax and it'll go away and for a bit it's ok but EVERY time I start seeing some creepy shadow or feeling some presence that just doesn't feel right. And the force stopping me from moving and trying to wake up is just too much.

I wanna add to that I NEVER have nightmares. I love my dreams, they're always super interesting. I can also tell when I;m dreaming. Not lucid dreaming but I just know when a dream is a dream. But my sleep paralysis is always negative and always feels way too real.

I'm not trying to be crass, but you guys are missing the point completely.

The main point I was getting at is that sleep paralysis makes no sense given the nature of lucid dreams, saying 'your brain is half dreaming', or 'dreaming' literally does nothing to explain this phenomena and is actually dismissed by the science of lucid dremaing.
