The trick is to keep two cars. One is the flashy one, and the other is the daily car that gets most use

Drive whatever the hell makes you happy, but don't be surprised if people judge the middle aged man seeking attention with a car loan. If you missed your chance before 30, you'll have to wait until 70+ before people start mirin' again.

Agreed. I can buy pretty much any reasonable sports car in cash and it wouldn't even move a nozzle on my day to day spending but cars just aren't a passion or important to me.
Last "flashy" car I had was a BMW M5 but I've flushed all that outta my system. Right now I'm driving a blacked out Grand Cherokee SRT and I like staying low profile. Respectable, but nothing crazy.
Usually the guys driving crazy souped up cars spend 50% of their salary on it or are trust fund babies.

honestly i neevr understood buying a fancy car or whatever just because it was a jag or whatever
that said, i could reason spending almost as much on a Lariat F150 because its a truck that can do everything a jag can plus 10x more

You do realise this only works when you have several super cars, a mansion, and a diamond encrusted Royal Oak, as well as several 10/10 side hoes?
Otherwise, you are only flexing on other peasants.

Wouldn't do it unless I had a stupid amount of disposable income. Comfortably drive an ecoboosted F 150. Better engineered than German garbage nowadays anyway. Ranger rovers are complete trash.

Enjoy! That V12 in that SL is such an awesome combination, legit one of my favorite cars ever.
I want to get the S5 soon though.

Honestly if you like cars and can afford them, then pull the trigger. I was up in the air for a long time about building a kit car that I've wanted for about a decade because of the price, etc but then when you realize life is short and you can't take all the cash with you, do what makes you happy. I just built this thing in my garage over the past few months and my daily is a Raptor. I just love cars so I justify it to myself.

One day but I set my sights high when I do indulge in stuff. Bought my woman a 2014 Cadillac SRX three or four years ago but my beater (which I rarely drive now) is a 2007 Chrysler Sebring that my parents gave me. It has 223,000 km on it and at least 4 warning bells go off when you start it up, only maintenance costs in like seven years have been oil changes.
Next buy will likely be a Lexus SUV because they’re a mix of luxury and practicality, but we’ll see

Ever since I started earning better money, the less interested I was in the expensive things. It might be a better appreciation of money and the work involved. I did eventually pick up a nice merc and it really is a dream to drive.
I remember listening to some podcast where some fashion CEO gets a surge of creativity and motivation every time he starts up his Rolls Royce.
I get a similiar feeling as my car does give me a lot of happiness driving it. I would say it's a sort of reminder that hard work pays off and **** is possible as corny as it sounds.
I think if you can afford it and the ongoing costs, you should get it if you really enjoy cars and it's something that makes you happy.

Have any of you gone through this, is it in my head? Is it still cool to drive one of those things or does it actually look like you're trying too hard? I don't ever want to go the route of a basic SUV, I want some class and luxury but.. I can't get myself to consider a nice Range anymore. Thoughts?

Part of it might be maturity, but if you want it, just buy it. Life is too short.

I know people who talk like this. And they almost always, uniformly, can't afford anything better. It comes off as a massive cope. Especially because the topic typically comes up when someone is around with something nice/new.
You say cars don't give you joy. But have you ever driven a fast or high end car?
