The company had $31.5b inrevenuein 2020 and posted a profit of $630m

JFL at this executive compensation scam.

How can he pay himself the entire revenue of the company?

Tesla is just a big Ponzi scheme, just lol at anyone thinking that Tesla will remain relevant once electric cars are the incumbent technology. Good luck competing with Toyota or VW manufacturing and distribution networks

On his compensation, theres nothing wrong, his stocks were worth 10% when he got them, they went up 1000% in the 3 years leading to its vesting, u cant blame him lol

If the stock hadn't appreciated and was priced at $70 he'd still be paying himself 10% of the revenue of the company or more than 3x its profit.

Most likely he's using it to purchase other investments on margin so if TSLA goes down he won't lose the majority of his wealth.

That sort of thinking is why Tesla will bury them. Toyota and VW developed their manufacturing and distinction models decades ago, and adapting existing systems to modern tools is always harder than just starting from scratch.

Tesla has more capital available than any car company in the world, by an order of magnitude. They literally just have to hand it over to the best analysts people in the world, using the most modern systems, and build it.

To OP:
You need to look into how stock options work. lol. They aren't "paying" him anything. He actually pulls no salary from the company. His compensation package includes the option to buy certain numbers of shares in the future at set pricing, assuming the company hits specific metrics. The value here comes from how much share prices have increased.

I know how executive compensation works. Even if they're not paying him cash he's still diluting the absolute chit out of the shares while paying almost nothing for them. So value is still being destroyed for shareholders.

lol at not realizing that being 100% EV and not tied oil will leave traditional companies in the dust. Already has. Tesla will likely remain at the forefront of the EV market for decades to come.

I'm not saying Tesla isn't innovative or currently at the front of the curve.

What I am saying is even a great company can be a bad investment if it's priced at 1000x earnings and the CEO is siphoning away enormous amounts of money into his own pocket.

We have go disagree, just the capital expenditure needed for Tesla to compete is surreal,

Tesla is just a niche competitor, nothing more, they will end up becoming a supplier of batteries for the rest,of the automakers

Tesla isn't that innovative IMO. They didn't design the sensor system, that is just purchased. They don't produce cars very well. Their factories were over automated, at the direction of Musk. He had no mfg background but forged ahead with an ambitious plan to have robots do just all sorts of stuff that they really should have had humans doing. It took them years to get up to get production up to satisfactory levels. Those higly automated factories were outproduced by their makeshift production tents. Whoever set those up should have set up the factories to begin with.

From my understanding the only thing Tesla does that is outstanding is battery design. Apparently they have improved the 18650s that make up the overall battery, and even a new battery for the model 3 that is more efficient (2170).

Teslas will never catch on. Imagine the power bill when you're charging your tesla at 40 amps, 240 volts for hours each day? Where's that power going to come from, coal? We haven't built nuke plants since the 70s after 3 mile island.

Or how are they going to make enough batteries? There's something like 7-8000 of those little 2170/18650 batteries in a single Tesla

I do agree with you Tesla isn'tthatinnovative. Their big contribution was proving that electric vehicles were even possible by executing on the Model S. Since then they've stagnated IMO and I doubt they'll be the ones to solve self-driving.

Their main strength is their incredible brand/marketing and their access through cheap capital due to aforementioned marketing. It would be difficult for any company to fail when investors are willing to give you $30bn to hold on to for 10 years all while making 0 profit. Oh and government tax subsidies for your product over your competition as well.

I'd imagine a lot of it will come from solar. We're at an inflection point with the cost of solar energy now where it's cheaper than any other source in certain locations. Especially with interest rates and Biden's new infrastructure plan I'm guessing we're going to see a ton of new solar capacity built in the next 5 years.

I think a lot of factories are about to move to Arizona/Texas due to the combination of cheap electricity and low taxes

The problem with Tesla (and crypto and ****ty meme stocks) is other people talk about them more like religion or politics than an investment.

Do you have any finance background?

This is extremely true. I like Tesla but the vast majority of people who worship it have virtually no understanding of finance, engineering, manufacturing, technology beyond what they can remember from news articles or reddit

I recently read something intredasting.
In a 1953 book The Mars Project by Von Braun a leader of Mars is named Elon
Elon Musk was born ~20 years later and he's being paid by government to launch ships to space and hopefully Mars

Either a funny coincidence or reality is being ****ing fabricated
