No mention of Scott Stapp?

Why do people hate on Creed now?

When they were in their heyday their songs were on the radio like 24/7
The billionaire and the beggar both have 24 hours in a day.

That's why grandma's apple pie rocks and yours sucks.

You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.

Layne Staley imo BUT you are forgetting that Jerry Cantrell also played a big part in the AIC sound.

Even my local "classic" rock station has a no Creed, no Nickelback policy.

Staley’s voice was great too, but I don’t consider it as versatile or skilled…more so just raw, emotional, and a perfect fit for the band. Surprised to see Corgan on the list. SP is my favorite band but even I can admit that his voice is pretty poverty.
Maynard isn’t grunge. They have theirs own unique genre that ranges. Early stuff was closest to grunge. By my sig, obviously Maynard is the most intriguing, no one come close to the type of mind provoking lyrics and ideas he contributes. I just wouldn’t say he’s vocally the most impressive my self.

Eddie : corgan was my brain fart when Scott Weiland slipped my mined lol.

Corey Taylor has a beautiful voice.

I’m not gonna lie. I debated putting him on there. He took the world be storm and their earlier stuff was really good. despite all the stuff that followed they had a great sound for a while and he was a huge part of it. Even some of his lyrics were profound from time to time.

Edit: I saw 311, Creed, Fuel and Incubus all perform in one night. It Was a great show.

Nirvana got their sound from Earth. Earth is still putting out great chit.

Even crazier, the front man of Earth, Dylan Carlson, was the one who bought the shotgun for Kurt that he used to commit suicide.

Also based on vocals alone and not adding importance such as Kobain who killed hair metal.

So

1. Cobain - Nirvana
2. Staley- AIC
3. Cornell - Sound Garden/Audio Slave
4. Maynard -Tool/A perfect Circle
5. Eddie Vedder -Pearl Jam
6. M shadows gets a nod to be considered
7. Brandon Boyd -incubus
8. Matt Bellamy - The Muse
10. Billie Corgan - the smashing pumpkins
11. Scott Weiland - STP

I’m sure I missed a few.

Or other if not on list?

Also why don’t we see this type of talent anymore. Is rock truly dead in the USA or do you see it coming back at some point to have meaningful lyrics and talented bands that hold substance in their music.
Minus historical importance and what not I would rank them as:

Layne
Vedder
Maynard
Weiland
Corgan
Kobain

That’s it I fewl bias and it is, this is based off my personal enjoyment of their vocals in their bands.
I can’t rate Muse or Incubus because I never listened to them beyond their singles.

Although Cornell is technically great I just never got into Soundgarden but the rest? Still got cd of their work! I think I’m still butthurt at MTV for ruining sound garden for me including Black Hole Sun on Headbangers Ball.

Ps. Just so yunno .... korn sucks compared to AIC that was how I roll bread I thought it was funny as i made it. I lold a bit lol.

Billie Corgan's voice was whiny and nasally and I say this as an ardent Pumpkins fan back in the day.

Agreed. He is possibly the best lyricist on that list and easily the best guitarist though, so I assume God decided it just wouldn’t be fair to give him a great voice on top of all that.

Damn now I'm listening to STP records and on a serious grunge kick. I really need this kind of music today, so much bs in the world today.

Thanks OP. Also this vocal style reminds me a lot of the Marshall Tucker Band and the 70s era of Southern Rock.

Our bed we live, our bed we sleep
Making love and I become you
Flesh is warm with naked feet
Stabbing thorns and you become me

Oh, I'd beg for you, oh you know I'll beg for you

Pick a song and sing a yellow nectarine
Take a bath I'll drink the water that you leave
If you should die before me ask if you could bring a friend
Pick a flower hold your breath and drift away

Some really great recommendations in misc here. I’ve been rocking out all day to every last one of these and ones mentioned.

We need music like this again so bad.

Also honorable mention to
Brent Smith from shine down. That guy had some serious range and eeven though I wasn’t a huge fan, their simple man cover was outstanding. He showed his chops in they song named 45

Brent Smith is pretty much the best mainstream rock vocalist to have come out of the entire 2000-now time frame. And he can pull it off live just as well if not better. Dude has some sick vocal abilities.

1 - Layne
2 - Cornell
3 - Cobain
4 - Weiland
5 - Vedder
6 - Corgan
7 - Cantrell (Why no love for Jerry ITT?!)
8 - Rossdale (gonna catch hate but his voice was pretty fuking solid)

As for the post-grunge era, most of it's complete chit imo, but I actually am a big fan of Smile Empty Soul
