For example, if two horses have the same speed figure of 88, but one is paying 12-1 and the other is paying 8-1, I have a very easy bet to make.
You just look for value, and if one horse clearly outclasses the group, you can bet on your long-shot horse to get 2nd place with exacta betting.
Santa Anita race 7 right now, horse #1 is 12-1, but has the second fastest most recent speed figure out of the seven horses being run. That spells value to me.
Race 6 that just happened, my #2 horse had value like that but I bet him to get 2nd, the bastard won lmao.

It would look something like this
100 - l
200 - l
400 - l
800 - w on the 4th progression = 800*12 = 9600 pay out
In the worst case i lose 6 bets, i lose 6300 usd

Gentleman allow me to expose you to my kind of horse racing. This is Indian relay racing that’s gaining popularity. I don’t ride as I’m a giant but I own and manage a team, this stuff is an absolute thrill.
This is the kind of racing I do participate in, I’m the anchor man on the end of the rope, sheer adrenaline rush. Got kicked by another horse and broke my forearm a couple years ago but other than that it’s been injury free. I’m not in this vid either but it’s just something I found on YouTube. Essentially you take an unbroken horse, usually bucking horses, get them stopped and saddled then turn them loose with the rider headed toward the finish line, usually around a barrel or marker. I love it and I can usually do this along with running my relay team at the same rodeos.
Edit: if the links don’t work can somebody please fix for rep? I’m on mobile and sometimes they don’t work right.

Belmont post draw was today. 8 Horses total.
#4, Hot Rod Charlie @ 7-2. He is ranked 3rd favorite, and is tied for the fastest speed figure of the group. The site I use is giving +500 (VALUE TOWN) so I grabbed it for $25 of freeplay. Hopefully they don't update his odds so I can dump more onto him at this price.
#6, Known Agenda @ 6-1. He is ranked 5th favorite, but is the 2nd fastest speed figure in the group (and actually has the fastest figure of 112, but that was not the most recent race). Definitely my favorite of the bunch based on value for a bet. I plan to put at least $100 on him total. Currently in for $25, site won't let me make larger bets yet, they might wait until closer to race day to open up the betting wider.

Hit race #8 and #9 for small beans, overall got crushed on the day.
Now I must review my picks, and filter the insights that worked, and didn't work.
Looking forward to next weekend's stakes races.

Damn, just sitting here on a Sunday making micro-bets to hone my handicapping skills.
Over 7 races, I hit one exacta at 9-1, one straight win at 8-1, aaaaand a 'pick 3' at 10-1. Overall a net gain.
So pumped about the pick-3 win. Honestly want to just keep nailing down cheap pick 3 and pick-4's for low-dollar practice.
for my pick-3, I only selected 2 horses for each of the 3 races, so I wasn't shotgun-betting.

I bet on horses daily a few years ago. I am not going to get into what I was doing, but I was betting on a horse and also laying the same horse several times a day on different races for thousands of dollars.
Anyway, the amount of times I saw horses lose who were surefire winners was enough to make me realise that it must be near impossible to make money betting on them to win and I must have placed hundreds of bets over the period of a year and saw it time and time again. I'm talking horses who's odds were so short these is no point in even betting on them, but they would go on to lose.

I don't look at this as an opportunity to be profitable as much as I look at it to be a chance to pick winners.

Just hit Subjectivist ($13.90) for a nice straight win score in the Ascot.
Such an obvious stand-out favorite from his most recent races, yet morning line was 5-1.... I love finding these, and if I feel super excited about it (like today) I need to start plunging on the opportunity more.
I feel like 9 times out of 10 I'm not feeling great about my choices, but every once in a while it seems like the book-maker is missing something. THAT is when I need to go all-in.
structuring bankroll management now, and will likely allocate 5-figs to play with soon. Still need to prove myself a bit more.

nabbed a pick-3 yesterday at santa anita, but lost all my individual bets on those races... overall down on the day, but nice to hit a pick-3 regardless.
Going over Santa Anita's card today, tough selections. Not feeling great about anything, but really like Leggs Galore in race 9.
Going to toss some $5 bets on pick-3 matrix's and watch it play out.

I like horse betting but I do it differently.
I never bet on the big races like kentucky derby simply because there are too many good horses, way too much competition. You can get the same payout from a quarter horse race at some dumpy track.
My favorite bet is the show. Usually go for a 13 - 1 or so to show. It will pay about between 4-7 or so to 1 if it comes in only 3rd place. Better odds than a 2-1 favorite.
Its like betting on the 100 meters with usain bolt running. Pretty sure he will win but you wont get paid anything. The next few guys though, they are my show bets.
try playing with this and you will surprised at how many you hit.
Of course most people lok at you funny for placing show bets but I dont really care. if I can get 4-1 odds for picking a 1st,2nd or 3rd place horse I will take that all day. Of course you dont hit it big if he wins but I dont care. not looking for that, mainly just looking to double up.
Another fun thing to practice with is to get your hands on some old racing forms. Study them and try to pick yoru winners and place your imaginary practice bets. then you can watch the races online for free to see how you did.
