Firstly gz

It would be better to dissect if it wasnt a gif, but basically you have you starting position, then your hips move up considerably till you reach your 'strongest position'. Its at this point that the bar leaves the ground. This puts your deadlift into 2 motions instead of one, the first being the hips going up and the second portion (which many people have noticed) is when you SLDL it up

You did this weight because you are strong enough to muscle it up, on heavier weight your hips will go up and then you will go aw fuk bye. This solution to start with your hips higher and build tension at that point (which is your strongest point). Your body naturally finds its strongest leverages

You can then time your 2 part deadlift into a single part deadlift

damn james great analogy thanks I appreciate it

gonna practice this with lighter weight and carry it into my bigger lifts

its hard for me to find the right position with long arms and legs but the way you explain it helps a lot -- I always thought I had to start with my hips low to encorporate more leg drive but also found that I wasn't getting that leg drive I was looking for and couldn't figure it out

yeah cucknada of peace, but vancouver / BC has it a lot better than ontario (they've been on lockdown for like a year with no gym access)

I was allowed to lift without a mask for a few months before a spike happened but I think we'll be allowed to again soon

Np brudda, im a 6'3 lanklet too

This is an example of what i mean, notice my highish starting position, hips do not move without the rest of my body. No leakage of power, all in 1 motion

Nice lift

I worked my way up to 405 last year after a decade of not doing DLs... was fun as fuk but honestly I read too many horror stories on the internet about dls so decided to quit pushing for more lol. Pussy I know

But I think a DL max PR feels better than any other lift on the gym srs... miss that adrenaline

Btw I almost died with the 405 lol, don’t get why I struggled so hard going up to that weight but it is what it is

Nice lift opie,

I've never actually tried a 1 rep max for deadlifts. To me it just looks unsafe to even try.
I'm at 120 KG deadlift, 3 sets to 8 reps.

More impressive you did it in those nikes. I'd rather wear a flat bottom shoe or straight barefoot.

Nice pull brah.

Get yourself some flat shoes, you're giving up pounds with those thick soles.

We're on the cusp of fixing the problem here but not quite there.

OP's hips are definitely out of position but I'm not sure higher is going to be better (it might be).

OP isn't using the bar to leverage his hips into position. He's starting the pull from a relatively loose position and then the weight moves once his hips run out of room to extend.

The solution here is a tighter starting position.

Try this next time OP:
- Walk all the way up to the bar. Shins against
- Bend at the waist and set your grip
- Hold on tight and drive your hips down as far as you can. You'll feel the slack pull out of the bar here. If the weight is light enough, you may even see it come off the floor. If you were to let go of the bar here, you would fall over backwards.
- Push yourself away from the floor like a leg press
