"Green energy" is a joke and pipe dream.

Increasing population density can help to eliminate infrastructure. If you can walk to a grocery store, there is no need to run utilities under a 1/8 or 1/4 mile wide parking lot. The store could also be significantly smaller.
For that to happen, tradies, lawyers, bureaucrats, and banks would all have to give up the up-front cut they get from a project.

Apparently OP is to dumb to know the difference between "Green Energy" and electric cars.

Give millennials and gen Z what they want: cars that they dont actually have to drive (autopilot), or at least gives them peace of mind that they arent contributing to air pollution by driving back and forth to mcdonalds while they consoom their beyond meat hamburgers and chicken sandwiches. The generation that will sacrifice practical utility in order to be forward thinking and utilitarian for the future of the planet. That's what I think it's really about, and the capitalists investing billions to develop everything from commercial solar panels, to EVs (pardon the false equivalency) are just pioneering this sociological transition from a consumer psychology standpoint, as they have always done throughout the evolution of modern civilization.

Tech regarding battery technology, renewable resources is parabolic.
I think they will figure it out, it advances so rapidly. 13-15 years ago Indie companies were retrofitting electric motors into cars now we are having multiple companies mass producing cars that can go 4-600 miles on a single charge with massive amounts of tech and creature comforts.

Back to topic tho, you know why we don't recycle batteries?
There's no call for it. "used" batteries are sold second hand for car conversions, and they go for big money.
Or they get turned into home energy storage, decentralising the grid and allowing us to store the energy that renewables create, but we lose as currently we have no mass storage.
40kwh batteries in 10 million cars in the UK gives us enough storage to power every home.
Vehicle to grid allows us to access it.
It's so ****ing simple and obvious how renewables work, and how EVs are part of it.
As for the batteries, you think we'll still have the same type of battery in 15 years?
Look at the first 10 years of the phone, then increase the potential by the amount of manufacturers cash.

Only recently I heard about a graphene/aluminium battery. Would charge extremely fast, cheap to make, good power density,...
Company is graphene manufacturing group.

Wind and Solar are great options.
Survival. When the jungle tears itself down and builds itself into something new. Guys like you and me, we end up dead. Doesn’t really mean anything. Or, if we happen to live through it, well that doesn’t mean anything either.

both are totally intermittent/unreliable and worse for the environment than their petroleum equivalents; plus, they cost more per KWh without subsidies

Geo thermal is the only good green alternative that's available 24/7 and it's finally becoming a real possibility because drilling technology has improved immensely in the last 10 years

i bet we're 50 years from that though
the reason why you mentioning electric cars is so important is the effect they have on the grid since they mostly charge overnight (due to how slow and inconvenient it is for the average person), thus straining the grid at a time when solar isn't producing
CA is gonna have an ever-increasing number of blackouts as a result
the one good thing they do is outsource the pollution from where you live to somewhere else. a city with all electric (which I'm sure will be mandated around the world in the coming years in various places) can breathe clean air while their pollution is in the countries where the rare earths/cobalt etc. are mined and where the coal/gas are burned to generate their electricity
realistically though, there simply isn't enough cobalt, lithium, neodymium, dysprosium etc. on earth to do the EV/solar/wind bullchit they're planning. the whole world is gonna be strip-mined in order for some gay libs to virtue signal on the way to work

Replacing millions of gas powered cars with millions of eletrcir cars is just retarded from an ecolgycal perspective.
Since it won't solve the mobility nor the pollution issue it's just a strategy to further enrich the auto industry
A real solution would be to move towards clean energy efficient public transport and clean energy production
