Moving into a house with a 2-car garage down in Texas in a month or two and I can't wait to get a gym set up
And relief washes over me in an awesome wave

I am getting close to the point where a home gym is going to be ideal. At my age I'm not going to on many more mass cycles or heaving the 140's for sets of 10 on Incline presses. Need to start prioritizing my health over mass. I've already picked out the equipment I will use in my small shed area I have to maximize the space. I've adjusted my training recently to mimic what I can do in a home gym and it's been going well.
Motivation to wake up at 430AM and drive to the gym isn't like it used to be.

I told work yesterday that I was taking an hours lunch a day to run home and lift, or I was finding a job that would let me.

Home gyms are cool, but people still like being around others even if they don't talk to them. We're still social creatures even though we're so guarded and private.

Lmao love the alien poster behind the bench.
Anyways to your question: Not everyone has a garage or spare room big enough to turn into a gym.
Not everyone has the money to build a proper gym. You'll easily spend 10k just for a dumbbell rack, plates, bench, squat rack and basics.

Easy....
Most people can't afford to live somewhere big enough to have an entire room dedicated to a gym.

Don't have a full home gym, but had the intuition to buy dumbbells weeks well before people lost their minds at the start pandemic. People were buying 3x what I paid all said and one. LOL!

Sometimes you get lucky. Then sold some unused crappy chit a few months later for great money. Fukkers drove three and four hours for two 45lb plates.

Hit up a commercial fitness auction years ago. Paid about $500 for 300 lb of olympic weights, a commercial treadmill, bar, and some other chit.
My ex worked at a YMCA and they were replacing their steel dumbbells with rubber and I got a full set up to 80 lbs for $125.00. Came with rack...
Cast iron kettlebell set for $120. Up to 90 lbs, craigslist.
Power cage was decent enough quality, bought new for $350
Bench was new, fully adjustable for about $300
Preacher curl attachment $120.00
Rubber for floor was free
Lat pulldown and high low pulley attachment I made out of bits and pieces from a cheaper lat machine I got for almost nothing. attached to cage. works great.
380 lb flipping tire and dragging tire was free. Just needed the trailer to pick up.
large keg $70.00, sand free
Buddy had two 50' manilla rope. 2". $50.00.
Made land mine attachment out of an old castor and some pipe for free. Bolted to concrete floor with tapcons.
All in a shade over $1500.00
Edit, and my fluid 2 bike trainer was a gift, but you can add it too I guess. $350.00

I hate the gym either way, unless it outside. If I can't workout outside then I feel like it's a chore.

I like the privacy of lifting at my house with my lifting partners.
When I was your age, I might have chosen the commercial/powerlifting gym too though.

Ended up building a home gym since of the ghey covid restrictions in ontario and I ended up liking it way more than I thought I would. I don't plan on going back to a commercial gym anytime soon if ever

Takes up a lot of space, costs money, you will never have the same amount of equipment, less socialization. ETC
No chance of finding new puss to poke at a home gym compared to a gym.
Im not anti-home gym. I am just listing reasons.

Just went to 4 sporting goods stores and only 1 had DBs over 35. Grabbed the only fuking 50 they had and gonna order the other online. Have a bench and everything I need at home now thankfully. Not sure why you wouldn't invest a little to get sht for your place but then again people love showing off and having girls laugh at them on the inside.
