You betcha man, you're pretty much there. Typical 5 year range of crude oil storage is anywhere from 380mil/bbls to 540mil/bbls. At ~440mil/bbls that equates to roughly 30 days of supply, which we are currently at. I believe total US storage capacity is close to 780mil/bbls. However there is a bit more to this equation. Pipeline receipts(crude in-flow), storage on rail cars, within tank farms on sites, etc are also factored into this.

One thing to note is that crude used for the manufacture of end products is not put in storage medium to long term. Typically a refinery has 1-3 days of storage before they run dry. The pipelines are always feeding in at all times. Essentially it comes out of the field upstream, through the midstream network, and straight to the downstream manufacturers. Yes there is tanks along the way but it's in and out.

Although I don't know how the US strategic reserves operate. Maybe they mandate a certain amount of barrels on hand to protect against OPEC turds, a swing trader if a pipeline goes down, insulate demand/supply shocks? Not sure on that.

Looking at current data we are pretty much back to pre-covid demand and storage levels.
