Best spot to park your cash short term

I've just recently stopped being a poorcel and have accumulated a lot of cash that I would like to have accessible quickly. I am saving to buy a house, land, or just an azz load of stocks / crypto if / when the market tanks. I'd like to have my cash accessible within a couple weeks, so what is the best place to put it?

Right now I have ~$40k just rotting in savings/checking making .00001% interest. Should I put it in a taxable index fund ie: S&P 500 or Total World Index? CD? Particular stable dividend stock? Bonds?

Thanks bros.

High yield savings account if you plan to access it in the near future

S&P 500 if you plan to hold it for 6+ months and don’t necessarily need it for a house down payment or something

-$40,000

Pick just one.

Also an old saying comes to mind I’ll share with you: “a fool and his money are lucky enough to come together in the first place”

Think about that.

There's no good options:

A: If you want to play it safe, you lose to inflation. Imagine if you had your home down payment stored in a savings account earning ~nothing before the huge run up in home prices
B: If you want to put it in the market, you are exposed to the risk of the market. The stock market could have a correction right before you want to buy

Either way you are taking on a risk.

IMO A is a bigger risk if you are flexible about when you can purchase. By that I mean if the stock market corrects you can wait a bit for it to recover. Otherwise B

I had money in 2014 to buy close to the bottom of the market. Should have just done it then. Crazy to think about. Thanks. RPd

build a guesthouse separate from your main home if you have the land to do so. overall might cost a couple hundred thousand depending on build, but you more than enough for the downpayment. this might increase the value of your main property in the process.

What’s “short term”? When do you think things are going to tank?

If you think it will happen in the next 6 months then just keep it in the bank.

A year maybe get a 1 year CD or something that might get you a better rate then a bank account.

If you rent just buy a home and start building equity. If you think crypto is the future just lol.

If in August things don’t start chitting the bed then I have no clue when it will happen. Money printer go brrr

Damn people like this who hold zero value will try to come up anyway they can even though it’s criminal... and they think they can get away with it... until they realize? That they not only won’t? But? That karma has a way of working itself out at the end. I can’t understand why there would be members of the department of justice? Who would be oppositional to doing the right thing for women of the porn industry just because it involves holding some members of law enforcement responsible for their crimes. Democrats are truly crazy and corrupt...

Anything but a 401k or any form or BRAINDEAD retirement fund. Also DON'T do bonds or CD for obvious reasons.

Not sure what the question is. Basic stocks/indexes can be liquidated and transferred to your bank within 3 days after the trade settles, so like 5 business days at most. Unless you're investing in hedge funds or real estate with low liquidity you generally don't have to wait for your money.

Ended up putting it in a manged investment account. Let someone smarter than me think about it for 1%.

i'd consider something relatively stable like utilities funds or something like that. Seems like a correction is coming to me but lots of people are saying there should be a healthy post-covid recovery. Roll of the dice

keep in mind utilities tend to be hit hard when interest rates rise, not due to the business model of utilities, but because as an investment vehicle valued for providing stable yields, they compete with fixed income instruments like bonds. higher interest rates cause institutional investors to re-allocate money from utilities into bonds, causing utilities to decline in value

You probably make more money on options then stocks SRS.

BOOMER stock investing is retarded as fook. You need a fortune to make the measliest returns.

buying calls or selling calls? you generally need a larger fortune to make the measliest returns when selling calls vs. holding stocks. in Any case, selling OTM calls just means you're converting the potential for appreciation into guaranteed cash flow... it lowers your risk of holding the stock and increases your guaranteed return, and on average likely lowers your overall return (the brokerage company makes money though)

that being said, I enjoy selling calls on certain stocks that I think have reached their temporary peak, and hopefully I can get some "free" cash from it. But only ever on stocks that I've held for at least a year, and even then its gambling. I would like to see a study that compares the overall returns from holding a basket of stocks vs. holding a basket of stocks and selling OTM covered calls on them... I have this feeling that the brokerage is the only player coming out ahead

So far, I've mostly been buying calls, naked Puts seem fairly risky and EVEN thought selling calls and puts may be better you certainly need a CHIT ton more money to do so. I usually buy ITM call and they print and that seems to work for me maybe a little more expensive but way less gambling and probably a much higher chance to make a profit then praying you get a rocket ship to the moon with price action.

If you aren't braindead using covered calls and puts is probably a x10 better strategy over market buy and market sell SRS.
