Best spot to park your cash short term
I've just recently stopped being a poorcel and have accumulated a lot of cash that I would like to have accessible quickly. I am saving to buy a house, land, or just an azz load of stocks / crypto if / when the market tanks. I'd like to have my cash accessible within a couple weeks, so what is the best place to put it?
Right now I have ~$40k just rotting in savings/checking making .00001% interest. Should I put it in a taxable index fund ie: S&P 500 or Total World Index? CD? Particular stable dividend stock? Bonds?
Thanks bros.

High yield savings account if you plan to access it in the near future
S&P 500 if you plan to hold it for 6+ months and don’t necessarily need it for a house down payment or something

There's no good options:
A: If you want to play it safe, you lose to inflation. Imagine if you had your home down payment stored in a savings account earning ~nothing before the huge run up in home prices
B: If you want to put it in the market, you are exposed to the risk of the market. The stock market could have a correction right before you want to buy
Either way you are taking on a risk.
IMO A is a bigger risk if you are flexible about when you can purchase. By that I mean if the stock market corrects you can wait a bit for it to recover. Otherwise B

What’s “short term”? When do you think things are going to tank?
If you think it will happen in the next 6 months then just keep it in the bank.
A year maybe get a 1 year CD or something that might get you a better rate then a bank account.
If you rent just buy a home and start building equity. If you think crypto is the future just lol.
If in August things don’t start chitting the bed then I have no clue when it will happen. Money printer go brrr

Not sure what the question is. Basic stocks/indexes can be liquidated and transferred to your bank within 3 days after the trade settles, so like 5 business days at most. Unless you're investing in hedge funds or real estate with low liquidity you generally don't have to wait for your money.

I had the same problem only with $500k two months ago.
Ended up putting it in a manged investment account. Let someone smarter than me think about it for 1%.

i'd consider something relatively stable like utilities funds or something like that. Seems like a correction is coming to me but lots of people are saying there should be a healthy post-covid recovery. Roll of the dice

that being said, I enjoy selling calls on certain stocks that I think have reached their temporary peak, and hopefully I can get some "free" cash from it. But only ever on stocks that I've held for at least a year, and even then its gambling. I would like to see a study that compares the overall returns from holding a basket of stocks vs. holding a basket of stocks and selling OTM covered calls on them... I have this feeling that the brokerage is the only player coming out ahead

If you aren't braindead using covered calls and puts is probably a x10 better strategy over market buy and market sell SRS.
