Should childless people not be able to hold politic office?

Thoughts?

For example, childless leaders like merkel have no stake in the future. The consequences of their actions will never be felt by their descendants.

Exceptions could be made if you child died after birth, or if you are infertile due to natural condition not induced by medical procedures.

....but on the contrary, you have families, like we see in the history of california, where the families run various offices for hundreds of years.

The catholic church started rotting because they made it so priests had to be celibate. Why the fuk you would want to be guided by a celibate "father" instead of one with actual experience raising a family and keeping a woman/children in line is beyond me.

It would have made more sense for them to marry, and have some kind of joint monastery where a nuns' family and preists' family live in different buildings in the same commune. In this situation, preists and nuns should be barred from marrying each other, to avoid some kind of power struggle between groups.

Property I can see on the basis on of you pay property taxes and you are much more grounded in the area than someone in an apt who can just break their lease and move.

However, the fact that firms like BerkH & BLkrock buy up homes and have subsidiaries that turn whole neighborhoods from homes for SALE into homes fir RENT really makes the amount of future voters in a given area smaller and smaller.

Yeah because gated presidential kids would live in a remotely the same world as average plebs lmao. The country could get nuked and it wouldn't prolly change a damn thing to those blue blood kids.


Interesting idea but overall not a good one imo. Do you want a leader make logical decisions or the emotional "as a mother, ..." ones?

I can see the logic, but seems too discriminatory.

I would be down with a psychological screening to run for/hold public office.

I don't think that psychopaths, sociopaths, people w/serious personality disorders, etc. should be steering the ship.

Don't know that I would exclude all types of mental illness, just the ones that mean you are potentially a selfish cold blooded bastard or broken in such a way that you are unlikely to be reliably functional.

First point is moot, because *getting* nuked in not really a decision a single politician could make, and is an extremely unlikely scenario not relevant to those making laws.

Your second point, yes.

If they would turn down an idea because they, as a parent, could see a law negatively affecting even their OWN, spoiled children, yes.

Obviously at the national level, or as you go up towards the national level, you will find more and more scumbags, and stuff like the idea in thread title may have more impact on local elections.
