Sukhoi makes solid jets. This is the counterpart to the F-35, like the Su-57 is the counterpart to the F-22. Too bad they can't actually afford too many working models.

It is true. If it goes to a merge it will die vs a F16 or F15.

It's not designed to merge like we did 30 years ago. Also, Which F15? The F15E won't perform like the A-D.

yes, as why the sr72 and loyal wingman are rolling our for America and Australia. Good for large borders and covers vast ocean area. They work best in groups with each module serving a different purpose. This is also why Aus provides the emp missiles to America for past 40 years with BAE systems. The payload always a step ahead thanks to DARPA. Project Nulka if anyone wants to look into it.

I understand it's not designed to go to merge.

We've been trying to get away from the Merge since 1958 but guess what?

We still have to Merge today ROE haven't allowed us to go BVR very often if at all.

It needs to be able to get in a phone booth with someone when schit goes south as it always will in combat.

I'm not a pilot, just a career military guy who nerds out on this stuff. During a 5 month course, I sat next to a career F15/F22 pilot who now works on the F35 program in Ft Worth. I asked a lot of questions and heard a lot of stories.

well in all fairness, these new 6th gen systems need to utilize AI architecture to get aerodynamics on point thanks to shockwaves and thermals. Our ****gy brains struggle with these ideas to solve problems we need millions of trial and error optimization simulations now. That's when the computer output a shell looking like a fookin dolphin , and the geniuses said oh yeah because it also has to ride the waves. Makes sense. But computer was doing same what evolution was doing. Human the dumbest again vs. Nature and AI. They making us show our weak colors.

Russia can't even afford something like this in any meaningful numbers. Same thing happened with the SU-57--it's basically an F-22 clone but Russia hasonein inventory.

Stealth fighters are cool and all, but one of the biggest factors that doesn't get much attention is how they communicate with other assets. US has a massive advantage here, which will only improve moving forward with the RQ-180:

cliffs:
-Using comms can negate the benefits of stealth. If an enemy sees electronic emissions, they know an asset is in that area.
-RQ-180 will is a stealth drone that will replace standard AWACs aircraft in denied environments
-It's going to orbit high above the battlefield and use lasers to communicate with satellites
-using lasers gives a ton of instantaneous bandwidth and, most importantly, cannot be intercepted unless something gets between it and the satellite
-The RQ-180 can use the same line of sight communication to communicate with stealth assets so they don't have to produce RF emissions

Again this has been said since the end of The Korean War.

The fact is when you have multi national assets in a theater Command often makes you id before you shoot to avoid Blue on Blue engagements.
