Curious if our parents parents felt this. Or maybe because times were different, they felt more of a fulfilment through real stable relationships? Plus lack of technology made things more peaceful.

I personally think we have more opportunity but certainly feel more isolated and lonely. Curious what other miscers think.
Our parents grew up with more community, religion, and family that helps avoid these feels.

So I don't think so

Those who are feeling unfulfilled,...does nothing excite you? Anything?

Saturday I took the boat down to a lake I have never fished and fished for musky with a buddy. Got back and brought wife and dog out to the cabin on the water I built. Yesterday we went fishing in the am, caught a whack of bass for dinner and some walleye, then messed with the cabin solar, then went for an evening canoe paddle then sexxors m movie and bed. Woke up at cabin, just got back from taking the dog for a walk scouting for deer hunting, and picked a gallon of wild mushrooms.

Tonight, dinner at in laws cottage, but first need to catch fish for a fish fry so I can do fish and wild chanterelle mushrooms for dinner.

I wake up every morning totally enamored with the outdoor world. Fishing, hunting, trapping, Boating, kayaking...winter expeditions...started a YouTube channel...tried musky fishing this year...holy chit. On the water at 4:00 am for that adrenaline rush....life is incredible, and there simply aren't anywhere near enough years on this planet.

It’s ironic because phones and social media are meant to make us more connected but it’s done the complete opposite. I started noticing this around 2009 when smartphones and social media started becoming massively popular. ******** went from being this niche thing to something that if you didn’t have it you were weird. In 07/08 I never heard anyone talk about social media, and Nokia, Samsung and BlackBerrys were still common phones. It was rare to see people in restaurants staring at their phones - people actually talked and had conversations.

Now there is a constant supply of virtual candy and everyone has a dopamine dispenser in their pocket that they can’t refuse.

It is also way too easy to talk to girls now because of social media, which has completely fuked up the dating economy. Now simps can literally jester while taking a chit - why bother going through the effort to go out and meet women? However, because of this, every guy is now doing it - and women are getting so many options thrown at them there is no reason for them to settle for anything but the most turbo of Chads.

Social media has fuked society in the ass and I don’t think all the butt cream in the world is going to fix it

This.

Find a partner to share your life with. Team up on making your lives good and raising some resilient competent humans to carry the torch onward.

But if you aren't ready for the spouse/family thing you can still engage with other humans towards improving life or fixing a problem.

You could just choose one thing that isn't what it should be, or could be. One thing that you will try to improve because you have an interest and the skills to work on it. It could be a very big thing that you can only make a small contribution to, or a small thing that you can make a lot of headway on.

I think one of the things that we suffer from in this information age is being overwhelmed with how many things are broken and not working. There is so much that we feel like we can't fix or change, so why even try?

Personally I've been underwater for a while, meaning that I haven't got my own basic situation taken care of, so working on some shared issue is mainly just daydreaming.

But it could seriously be anything at all:

- improving a local park
- volunteering for a good cause
- running for local office
- mentoring some kids that lack a father figure [throw a ball, build something, take them fishing]

What's the worst that could happen? You meet some people and maybe make some friends? Go to bed at night feeling good about what you did?

And you have extra stuff going on. Apologies in advance for unrequested advice, but I hope that you also spend some time being kind to and appreciative of yourself. Realize that even if you didn't do all of that you would still be worthy. If having your own child is important to you don't sacrifice it. You deserve the same kind of support that you are giving.

And what stands out about you? You spend a lot of time outside in nature and engaging with people face to face, or IOW, you live a life more like 100 years ago, but with the nice things like electricity, plumbing, cars, etc.

Well, I think once you realize that there could never be one universal "purpose" to life, and understand that, you are set.

You just have to get past that and find your own purpose.

Someone famous once said that there are two important days in a person's life. The day they are born, and the day they discover why

Its our own faults for eliminating community, religion and family. We've traded them for smartphones, social media, TV and debt/consumerism.

I grew up in a fairly religious family. Sunday morning we went to church. Sunday afternoon lunch with friends at a restaurant. Sunday night back to church. Then dinner with friends again at a restaurant. We typically met again on Wednesdays at someones house. Usually just to hang out/socialize.

Friday nights we always got together. Usually went out and did something as a group. Bowling. Putt putt golf. Ice skating. Etc. Saturdays we got together again. Typically a BBQ at someone's house. Etc.

Eventually as time goes on people grew less 'religious' and abandoned that format. But looking back it was more a social group then anything else. I miss those days.

We traded delayed gratification and long term happiness for our impulsive desires. As soon as SM came around I saw the potential for it to ruin things and it has come true. Instead of getting the true feeling of fulfillment that comes from building, creating, or learning things over time we simply open up our phones for a quick hit of dopamine. Women have somehow been convinced that instead of holding out for a family, they should be free to have sex whenever they want and this is made easier by the attention they get regardless of how bad their character is. For men instead of going up to girls IRL, we've been convinced that fapping/simping is okay so the motivation to approach IRL is lessened. Over time this will lead to a major deterioration of the family structure that held this country together.

It's no wonder that China and Russia are catching up to us.

I agree but I think it's easier to talk to women IRL especially when out at the club where they literally compete to see who can be the sluttiest and are doing slutty things to post online. Nowadays its the first trick they pull out of their bag to impress you when they find you attractive.

They like attention IRL the most so it's on you to capitalize on that and turn it into something more.

I think the key to not being bored/having happiness, is having a purpose / long term goals to work towards and see progression in that.
Interesting thing about the pandemic, at least in Florida, is that while bars, clubs and strip clubs were open all of the other more wholesome means of having fun were closed. Finding myself having to adjust to meeting new people without being blasted.

Things just changed after 2012

It's hard to even explain it but the system that was in place before that either broke or is breaking down. The family unit is dead. At work I just see one or two people working the rest are doing nothing all day. People are allowed to have flamingo colored hair and huge tats in the work place now. Women are doing only fans and tik tok. Men just follow whatever women say now. Obesity off the charts. It just doesn't make sense anymore. This isn't the culture I grew up in.

Freedom of choice bro. Your life is only boring because you have chosen comfort over risk. That is the danger of becoming an employee over an entrepreneur. You will forever be a slave for your comfort if you don't figure out another way. People are depressed because they are fat and happy, but shackled down until they are old. Life is all about choices. Back in the cagie and writing patent applications. Booked a round of golf for this Sunday. Watching a UFC fight Saturday. Hamster wheel go brrrrr.

The irritating thing is, I'm building stuff that will save my megacorp money on every chip they build for the next 10 years... even if we're talking a cent per unit, it's easily going to be worth millions. They're offering my a $750 bonus for it, and I'll lose 30% of that to taxes.

But I have a skillset that's useless without $20 billion dollars of semiconductor-fab capital behind it, so tough to strike out on my own.

I doubt in the 1950's church did they have negative/redpill discussions.

Curious if our parents parents felt this. Or maybe because times were different, they felt more of a fulfilment through real stable relationships? Plus lack of technology made things more peaceful.

I personally think we have more opportunity but certainly feel more isolated and lonely. Curious what other miscers think.
Not on this level we are currently experiencing.

Work as a consultant bro, open up your own LLC and charge them as a consultant. You would be amazed at how differently they look at pay when paying an LLC vs employee. Yes its risky but if you are good at what you do you can charge a high premium over your current salary. Make sure to factor in your bennies, etc, so say you are making $40 per hr plus bennis at your current job, i'd offer your services billed at $100 per hr with performance bonuses as an example. Yes sounds like a lot but trust me it is not, big companies are used to paying big bucks for consultants.

Ahhhh welcome to adulthood. The challenge is that up until sometime shortly after you complete your education your life is pretty well mapped out for you. All that you need to do is be able to react and stay on top of things and there are ample recreational opportunities completely built into those lifestyles. Things are always progressing in education, your career, relationships, etc. and change is the only constant. When that is behind you and your friends all start making their families (or whatever they happen to have) their number 1 priorities the options are not immediately available and your time is your own. What have you chosen to do with it? Build your career? A business? Pursue recreational goals and hobbies? Learn new skills, trades, etc? For many the answer is muddle through their dead end career and pass the hours in between mindlessly watching TV and TikTok.

The challenge is you need to work harder to create fulfillment at this stage in life but the great news is you should have more time, flexibility and (hopefully) financial means to do it.
