Vaccine is supposed to prevent severe illness , right?
Even if the vaccine is 80% effective, which phizer claims, you have 80% of 60% = 48% of the population removed from severe illness
But the record is broken anyways
You could make the argument that the vaccine is statistically ineffective

Anybody can catch Covid
Breakthrough cases among fully vaccinated are rare
Hospitalisation cases among this rare group are lower
Once hospitalised based on the smaller numbers of course you get larger percentages
Cos that’s how denominators work
Please stop trying to prove how little you understand, it’s a touch embarrassing

Europe breaks out non vaccinated, 1 jab and 2 jab
The USA groups them as unvax vs 2 jab
And you got nothing on the statistics right?

I really don't care about the kung-flu. If you want to get jabbed, do so, if not that's great too. This variant is less harsh than the original. How about we discuss the reasons why people are hospitalized and having issues.
It has NOTHING to do with vaccines. It has to do with open borders and unhealthy lifestyles.
How many older people smoked when they were younger? Especially in Europe and Canada? You're naive if you believe the damage is all healed in your lungs.
In a study of habits during the lockdown in the US, 40% of people surveyed gained an average of 29 lbs! Living unhealthy diets, not eating correctly and drinking to excess inhibits the liver and kidneys from filtering out toxins and hurting your immune systems.
Gaps in care. People blew off doctors and dentist visits and didn't get their annual physicals. Issues that are minor and not addressed turn to major.
Gyms being closed and people not exercising. See weight gain on 29 lb. average.
Masks don't prevent. Good habits do.
It's about healthy habits.

Thank you for sharing OP!
It does indeed seem that for the over 50 being unvaccinated is much better than being vaccinated in terms of needing emergency care, hospitalization. Right now the only decent, half believable data regarding covid is coming from Israel and the UK, all other countries cannot be trusted with anything they say. So you will not hear any of this on the evening news.

Couldn't this just be attributed to the fact that vaccination is highly weighted toward the elderly? So even with vaccination, they're still going to die at a significantly higher rate?

It's absurd that no one talks about how big of an impact being "healthy" has on your survivability. Being a healthy weight is better than being obese and vaccinated.

"Viruses, when they permeate society, rarely become more virulent. Generally they become less virulent as they adapt themselves with greater transmissibility," Fauci explained.

Deaths on the rise, but very slowly. I imagine if testing was as robust as last year (even though that was a fiasco) we'd see a huge case spike and tiny death bump making this variant not near as scary as the "regular" coof.you have to think about this as well.
CDC came out saying that the delta "was as transmissible as chicken pox". This makes CFR even more useless. I think there were studies at least in 2020 where the actual number of infections was likely to be 5-10x more than what was being reported. So with delta being more transmissible, what is that number? like 15, 20x more? If this is the case then more hospitalizations is simply a function of more people getting infected. And the actual IFR being lower than that of the alpha variant.

I think Fauci and Co are simply CYAing and have an easy scapegoat in antivaxxers and simply want to avoid the hard fact that this disease simply has to run its course. Pharma is on board because they have contracts. We're fukt for the time being either vaxxing or being excluded from society. Hopefully this chit just morphs into an actual cold and will blow over.

Now they're talking up the Lambda/Lombda variant... and a "Doomsday" variant that could be vaccine resistant -- where does this end? Obviously virus mutate as people get vaccinated, but I question if the media itself is only making this more worse.
There are conflicting reports on how contagious / how deadly the variant is, but if this particular report says that it's less deadly than the original strain.
Then there's another report that's been making the rounds on MSM (and websites) stating that vaccinated people are more susceptible to getting it;
https://www.reuters.com/article/fact...-idUSL2N2OD2CJ
But that's been debatable too...

This is a pdf showing the mortality rate for unvaccinated with the delta variant is 10 times lower than the covid of last year.
This data includes elderly and people at significant risk.
The data also indicates that the vaccinated are less likely to get the disease but more likely to die from it if they do.

If the host dies the virus dies with it, but a host that is alive and about can infect others and make lots of new viruses. The biological purpose of any living thing is to make more of itself, therefore the viruses that kill less get to make more of themselves. Hence new diseases that start very deadly become less deadly with time.
But I guess that's too much science for someone who says "follow the science."

There are examples of pathogens that have been circulating and evolving in humans for centuries to millennia that maintain high virulence. There are also instances of highly virulent variants arising, circulating, and out competing more benign competitors. You’re making the fundamental mistake of thinking evolution is a species level selection event. It is a competition between individuals. Harming the host can be an unavoidable cost of extracting resources, and if that resource extraction provides a propagation benefit, it can offset and outweigh the cost of mortality (limiting total transmission time.) Pathogens evolve in the context of tradeoffs between exploiting the current host and making it to the next. The shape of the tradeoff curve is a partly a function of how dependent a pathogen is on a mobile, healthy host for transmission.
"Seen in the light of evolution, biology is, perhaps, intellectually the most satisfying and inspiring science. Without that light it becomes a pile of sundry facts -- some of them interesting or curious but making no meaningful picture as a whole."
