Did you end up feeling a huge sense of shame and embarassment after this happened? I mean, think about it. You made all these people dress up, most had to travel far distances, get a babysitter, get you a gift, just to try and make your insecure ass feel special that day, all to have it not even work out. It would be the equivalent of me throwing a huge party celebration for getting this great new job and starting a great new career, only to get fired two weeks later because I suck at my job and show'd up to work drunk everyday.

a friend of mine had a HUGE wedding at Disney world, must of cost $100,000. She cheated on him and left him for a dude he introduced her too for business. she has since cheated on that guy as well. This bro is a chad with rich parents and very successful himself.

I can't easily recall a situation where I wish I had done nothing instead of doing something [aka: tried], but I can think of times I wish I had done something different.

I had a pretty bad fear of flying. Just knowing that I had a flight coming up in the next few days would start anxiety for me and it wouldn't stop until I got off the plane at my destination. Then when my return flight was near [within a day or two] the anxiety would come back again. I've probably made 30+ round trips at this point. I don't know that I would say it is completely gone, but it is a lot less than it used to be.

for example if you threw a big wedding. that's a very positive and beautiful experience.
even if it ends one day. that positve and beautiful experience was lived by you. it doesn't matter.
just because a great show/trip/dinner will end, does that mean it was never great? people pay premium money for every experience that eventually end.
you still lived a great experience at the end. that is what it is.
the rest is COPE

People go to weddings for the booze and food. Most people expect a divorce

Spent like $10k on my wedding with my ex. She always pissed and moaned about how it wasn't elaborate enough. Pretty ironic considering that that day wound up being the equivalent of losing $10k in a night at casino when we got divorced.

My wedding was a blast.
I felt insecure about if we would've called off the engagement (idk why in hindsight).
Eventually after I was miserable I realized those who cared about me would want me to be happy and thus get divorced and those who didn't, well, you got a helluva party with an open bar so I don't feel all that bad.
For the record I've never once heard someone bitch about having gone to a wedding only for said couple to get divorced. If you don't want to go to a wedding, don't go. In most cases the couple won't care all that much as the people they're closest with will make the effort to be there and enjoy the day with them.

My wedding cost 3 grand and was really nice for thirty people. Never seen the point of the massive party or anything like that. Decorations, friend. Photographer, friend. Cake, friend. Only close relatives and friends there.
Do whatever you want. I didn't see the point in paying 50 grand to throw a party.
