Why you may ask? Well in my opinion marriage is desired much more by the female than the male, therefore we can deduce most males ask their female to marry them mostly to make them happy if the man thinks its a stable good decision that wont crash and burn. Why would a male get married to a female who doesn't make enough money to "Change his life" when she is then going to make him sign a paper saying she wont share any financial benefits he may have come into through this arrangement, when likely the catalyst of this whole thing was to please the female. Its a lose lose.

I will go further and say as a man who made more money than their partner by a fair margin (she makes 50k, I make 500k+)... I would probably make her sign a prenup because once again she benefits from this relationship more than me (because of some weird biological/societal structure) so why risk her not only taking my time but then money if things were to go south where I literally leave with nothing from this whole arrangement but she wins either way.
She actually didn't care about marriage or want one. He surprised proposed and got super lovey dove-y. And here they are. I was actually surprised when she told me about her engagement. She's very non conventional when it comes to putting labels on things.

In your example - if the girl makes 500K + and you made 50K -- you would then be happy to sign a prenup then? Or does it go back to the first example where she has to be a millionaire? The contrast is pretty stark.

Honestly, I've asked this same thing. She dated a doctor before him and she said that she didn't like all the hoops they had to jump around just to be together. I think she's really designed it this way so she can plan vacations for them and it's easy for him to take off. She doesn't want children.

If the genders were flipped, there would be concern. A woman (regardless of status) usually views herself as the prize in any relationship, so they are more likely to argue and get emotional about it, since they think they have leverage.

Like another dude said, it should be talked about prior to giving him the stuff to sign. It should have been more thoroughly discussed prior to this stage... wedding planned, booked, etc. Its kind of messed up to wait this long and drop it in the 11th hour, but I don't blame your friend for wanting to protect her stuff.

Edit- I don't believe you when you say you got no pics from the pool.
OK You caught me. I did take pics from the day of the pool but it's of our dogs.

He's never had a big ego when it comes to these things, the dude literally has a card that she pays for that he uses so I have a feeling he will take it ok. But I do know she's concerned with how he's going to take it because of the timing.

And in the roles where it's reversed.. you're damn right about that. My cousin went through a lot of emotional trauma from his ex fiance bc she was very emotional about his prenup terms. They even called the wedding off.. in the end.. they ended up getting married 2 years later with no prenup LMAO. poor bastard.

That said, I'm in his shoes today and the wedding is already planned and all, it might come off a little hasty and awkward to suddenly drop the prenup idea out of nowhere... "what you don't trust me?" might enter the head.

TBH, you know what I'd recommend for them? Don't let this monkey wrench their situation.

Instead, after the wedding, after the honeymoon, do aPOSTnuptial agreement, srs. Same thing, just done after marriage begins.

EDIT: Also, it might seem a little inconsiderate if he proposed to her without even, on his own initiative, bringing up the subject first, since he's the one who dropped the "surprise lets get married" bomb shell on her in the first place. An imbalance of incomes should always warrant a discussion at the very least, even if you're on the "better side of the deal".
Would your feelings be hurt or would you logically approach it and understand she's just protecting herself? I see her later today - I'll bring up a postnuptial agreement. Didn't think about that. And he did not bring up the subject when he proposed. They're just really two chill non confrontational people that get a long really well.

Sounds to me like she has generational wealth, and her parents are telling her to protect it.

I don't get how she can own all these properties with "six figures". I assume six figures means she makes no more than 110k.

Unless your laws are vastly different, my interpretation is that anything owned pre-marriage is yours to keep. Any increase in wealth is the only factor.

Like another miscer said, I wouldn't even sign it unless there's some significant wealth difference (e.g. she's worth $50M, and he's enjoying the ride).

I don't have a problem with her wanting to protect her money. Judging by the stuff you've posted the guy is a tradie and not exactly great with money. There is a real chance that could lead to big time issues later in the marriage.

My problem is not formally bringing this up a long time ago, like after engagement. This is not something you spring on your soon to be spouse a couple months before the wedding. He likely won't care since he's basically living off of her. What's his other options? lol.

You know, I use to not believe in them either. For some reason feels wrong to 'bet against your favorite team' but.. even your favorite team has the potential to disappoint you. And as of recently since all this talk with her.. the more things (property) that I own, the better the idea sounds.

One, she's brought it up with me only. She hasn't even talked to her parents about it. She's only confided in me. I don't see how she's being a manipulative bitch? The communication timing is poor. I'll give you that.

She does come from generational wealth. Hence why her sister went though a super ugly divorce bc she was worth a lot more than the stay at home ex.

Six figures is anywhere from 100k to 999k isn't it? She's doing healthy for herself qtr mil salary isn't anything to be super impressed about but it's comfortable living.

I really don't see him calling it off because of this but I do see how his feelings would possibly be hurt since it's so late in the planning stage. Or perhaps she's worried about nothing and he's not even going to bat an eye when he brings it up. Would you be so upset (if you were in his shoes) that you'd do something drastic? But I guess you're right. IDK what his other options would be. He's only been living in her house for the last almost 5 years.

I think they're smart.

The way I see it, a prenup only matters if you divorce. You can still be like "my wife/husband gets everything. We will share everything, nothing is mine, nothing is his/hers. However, this agreement says what my ex-wife/ex-husband would get. I wouldn't share everything with an ex wife/husband" and I think that's a fair statement.

If I was him, under his circumstances, I would probably be upset, but likely wouldn't say anything because I know that she's basically providing everything for me. What am I gonna do otherwise? Call it off and go live in a 1 bedroom studio with no car? He really shouldn't be surprised.

I'm guessing this is a guy who is very easily pleased and fairly simple minded. He probably will just sign it assuming they'll be together forever.

People that say "I make 6 figures" generally never make more than 110k, from my experience. People who make 300k will say "I make 300k". Actually, the only people I know who ever make that kind of money never really talk about it.

I have a feeling that she didn't "confide" in you first, and her parents had said something to her because of what happened to her sister. I assume they have helped her out with these properties and multiple vehicles, so they know if she gets cucked in a divorce that they will end up having to pay some of this out.

I also don't know how a prenup will suddenly fly with a wedding only a few months away. If this was at the start of the engagement it makes more sense. It sounds like this wasn't her choice, and she's being told to do it.

Also, many prenups can be tossed out, so like your last paragraph, he doesn't have to call it off but can talk about being pressured into it - nullifying it altogether.

I wish her the best, but her saying thing right now is costly.

So she's financing the home and the cars and I assume most of their living expenses. Sounds like a fuking sweet deal for him based on how comfortable she will make his life. I'd happily sign if I were him and if she were my sister I'd tell her absolutely don't marry him if he refuses or causes a big fuss over it. She holds all the cards here so just tell her to woman up and have the conversation already.

My gf was bitching about her ex suing her for having hidden assets (allegedly) and looked at me and said we're getting a prenup.

I said I wouldn't have it any other way.

lol @ marrying a woman who makes more money than you.

She would have probably been screened out for her guaranteed lack of hymen long before we even got to the money talk though if her "career" was a relevant metric in her life. Bish would have never made it past "slampig" status in my world OP.

Also this. Sloot probably makes an insignificant amount more than her cuck-- would be interested if OP knows that data point but I bet it's less than 20% more (aka insignificant)-- and she is just doing this as a chit test power move to remind him that he is a cuck and will never be receiving a blowjob for the rest of his life.

Everyone should have a pre-nup. Higher earners and low earners because things change and either way it makes divorce much easier. No couple gets married planning for divorce. Planning for the future worst case scenario is just intelligent in every aspect of life.

The reality is if someone is against a pre-nup you shouldn't be marrying them and I wouldn't worry too much about how you bring it up. The fact someone who is supposed to love for you is against you protecting yourself and planning for an easy split if by chance things go wrong is a really bad sign. Didn't think about how I brought it up to my wife, and she didn't object, if she did, I would have moved on. Simple.

I'm the one that's talking about her finances clearly. I'm not sure she would ever state "I make x y z " She's def not the type of person to ever brag. I'm only aware of what her salary looks like because we spend a lot of time talking about work, promotions, buying properties, playing ball. She and I are very transparent / supportive with each other. I've spent time with her family at their lake house and we've gone on vacations together. Either way point is moot on how the salary is mentioned. That's just what I decided to use. "6 figs". She's quite comfortable.

By confide - I mean I'm the only one who knows that she's gone to a lawyer. Her parents do not yet know. I'm sure they've had a talk with her prior and would not be surprised at that. And maybe she will pull out of it and decide not to bring it up. Who knows. She's just concerned about approaching the subject and his feelings right now.

She holds all the cards here so just tell her to woman up and have the conversation already.

Edit: dang @ bikini pic das it womane
I'm pretty sure she's going to bring it up this weekend when she gets back from her work trip. She's a sweet cookie she will figure it out. But I do like some points of what people have posted here. That helps.

I mean yeah, I went the opposite, I have found the more successful they are in their career, the better partner they make.

Her sweet man does construction work. He has a teaching degree. That's all I really know about his credentials. They treat each other really well.
