Just imagine being Brian Laundrie right now hiding out in the woods, eating tinned ravioli and drinking Florida swamp water, totally cognizant of the uncharted waters you are treading but slightly exhilarated as well. Dude probably has a gun with 1 bullet in it. At the same time he is wondering how long he can live out there and maybe there is a chance he can escape and live out the rest of his life on a sunny beach in Mexico like Shawshank Redemption. The only hope that keeps him going at this point. Can't even fathom his emotional state.

I would even argue elevating your children ABOVE the rest of the world, socially, is a priority for any sane person. Neutrally letting others take advantage of you to weaken their social standing seems dangerously weak and inhuman. Social superiority motivates people whether they like it or not and needs protected in any prudent life.
