It’s just not the norm nor natural imo. Probably 1 in 50 marriages

Well yeah love is too do with chemicals.

It sounds like you've let the misc affect your real life too much to be honest. However if you feel this girl is manipulative or whatever and she doesn't get those lovey chemicals released for you then yeah you don't need to pretend to love her back, but you need to accept that maybe you are not right for each other. Imo, anyway.

Things can wax and wane in a long term relationship, but nothing being there at all is a different story.

YES.

How dare you. Without love, you were never even born.

Unless you are an insect...oh no...are you?

Haha, always the same crew in the love/marriage threads.

Anyway, I'd say love is as real as anything.

Imo the concept of 'love' in western culture is very bad. I think what westerners refer to as 'love' is actually 'lust'. 'Love' is when two people grow together and develop a bond. Let's say two people meet, have marriage interviews with each other and with family, they are compatible and get married. Over the years they develop experiences and a bond between them which I think is much more accurate to describe as 'love'. However this can only occur in a society, or between two people, who do not embrace slooty behavior.

Love is something that ideally develops after marriage, not before. Before marriage you should be looking for compatibility in the most important areas of life such as religion, money, politics, lifestyle, living location, number of children, how to raise kids, importance of education, who will or will not work, allowances for non-working partner (preferably wife), etc.
Lot's I agree with in there. Repped.

The way I see it, there’s two type of “love” under the context we are discussing.

1) Burning love: when two people desire each other to the core of their beings. They claim every particle of the other persons body. It’s romance, lust, friendship, admiration, etc. As amazing as it sounds, it’s also ephemeral. As that initial burst of positive feelings start fading away, you are left with tangible reality of what the other person is. A person can’t very rarely compete with their “burning love” version of themselves, naturally. As thing go slowly downhill, other Windows open up.

You see this in young people all the time. They are deeply in love and always together 24/7. 2 years later you find out they are doing the same with a diff person, they look equally in love.

2) True love: This is reserved for a very small % of people. When two intelligent, attractive, self aware, noble, people of integrity meet each other who also have their expectations and understanding of the universe aligned.

After these two go trough the burning love phase, thing don’t go downhill, but actually uphill. Things continue to improve and evolve. Their loyalty to each other gets stronger with every day that passes and every struggle they find, contrary to what others experience.

These are the type of couples you see that they have loved each other for decades and still look like they would take a bullet for the other one. They brought kids to the world but for some reason, they still love the other person similarly or just as much as their own kids, the partner doesn’t take a second priority position. Would never even dare thinking about betraying the other persons trust because they see the other person as an extension of themselves. Meant to be together.

2 is really hard to see, let alone to get. For starters, most of us aren’t as the people described on that type of love, so achieving it becomes nearly impossible without even considering the fact that we’d still have to find another person like that.

If you felt any of the two tho, consider yourself lucky.
Wife and I have a lot of the characteristics you've listed here. In a couple years we'll have been together for more time than we were apart before we met. Life has been good, but we've had our challenges, too. I think we are both good people, but she is definitely a better human being than I am. Are we meant to be together? I don't know, I'm not a soul mate believer. We enjoy each other's company. I try to be completely trustworthy and think she does the same. I think we make each other happy. I think we have good marriage but I've never felt like what we had would be super difficult for another couple to achieve. We still disagree about things from time to time, and sometimes we hurt each other's feelings.

I hope it's higher than that. Most of my family/friends/associates are in long term marriages, and seem to be very happy. You never really know what's going on in another person's marriage (sometimes it's hard enough to figure out your own), but they look happy.

On the porn question above, I am staunchly in the no porn camp. I think it's poison. I'm sure there are successful marriages where one or both consume porn, but I think it drastically reduces the odds of long term marital success.
