I've actually spoken to a billionaire before. He mentioned that it's easier to compound your investments the more money you have and that when he dies he would donate most of it to charity. He also mentioned that it's like a highschore table where you want to keep improving your rank.

That's just a mindset (I'd argue a destructive one). It's very driven type A, and my experience is such folks never reach contentment as they can't just sit still. I have peace of mind with the financial security I have, but I actively pick doing LESS work to have less stress even though it would lead to more money. I don't even do simple things my colleagues do (let alone the more complex stuff) even though it would mean 2-300k more per year, because I don't have to to live comfortably.

'Chasing a high'. That's just idiotic and I'd probably say something is mentally wrong with you. That's definitely not normal behavior. Most people are just happy to be around family and friends, not chasing imaginary digits.

With money comes power, and if power doesn't come money offers you the ability (at the very least) to give just about everybody a giant middle finger if they don't like you. I have my character faults but my social circle doesn't call me on it because i stick to myself most of the time to begin with, and they know i make more money than 2 or 3 of them combined.

From my experience in various tax brackets, i'd have to say $400,000/yr is a great coasting point. It's like 20k per month after taxes, that's enough earning power to buy your way out the vast majority of problems, your driving german luxury comfortably, you're eating a nobu comfortably, you're living in a nice neighborhood comfortably. This is ASSUMING you're not a complete fuking moron with your income and live like someone only earning 200k and invest most of it.

people need to level up their lifestyle the more money they receive instead of living below the means.

jump from 50k to 100k means usually 1400-1500$/mo rent or mortage to a 2200-2300/mo payment, versus having the same 1400$ payment at 100k

But i think it's enough when pepole's side hustles pay for their bills. Everything after that is extra credit, bonus round money almost.

In the US, once someone reaches like age 35ish and is settled down, there isn't much else to do other than making money. Literally. I have enough money saved right now to travel for like probably 10ish years straight if I want, and for some reason I can't stop working and just go on like 5 trips per year instead.

People in other countries somehow are traveling constantly and make it work on like $10k per year.

Gonna disagree with this post. There's plenty of folks that's satisfied. If you ask me, it's mainly city dwellers that's depressed with social media and Ads around them constantly. Not all of em, but a lot. Meanwhile Go to some small town Montana and folks are just happy being around family and nice views.

As long as I'm saving enough to buy a few dozen acres of land somewhere rural, preferably with a house on it, by the time I'm 40, I'm retty happy. Currently finding the balance between work hours and income.... About $500/day after expenses in 5 hours

dude i work with was the youngest person to take out a mortgage at his bank.. had a house at like 22 (i think, may have been younger)

is now in his 40's. and i heard him describing a bank that requires a 5k balance as a "rich folk" bank

like... lol. then ****s in here talking about 20k/ month not being enough.

inb4 you hang out with the wrong crowd. i know plenty. my bros wife's brother made internet explorer with bill gates, she got like hundreds of thousands for graduating high school, etc., etc.

Work for your freedom, not for things. Working for things will never make you happy. Working for financial freedom is the move. I have plenty of nice cars, nice house, etc. None of it has made me permanently happy. Building my business makes me happy tho... working with customers i have cultivated makes me happy...hanging with my daughter and my beautiful, encouraging wife makes me happy. Money doesn't mean chit at a certain point. It's a tool, but shouldn't be viewed as your only goal in life. If you check out of the rat race and end the new car, new phone, new tv every 2 years cycle, you will be infinitely happier.

I want to take care of my daughters education if she decides to further it with out her having to work her way through school then being in debt. That alone drives me.
I dont care if I have to work 8 days a week to achieve that.

Because the reality is you have a fixed sum to get to to retire, say $10M. If you're not there, you have much work to do.

Probably what happens, is you make money, and then realize you want a new house so you want more money. Then you get the money and a little while later you're like I want to get a nicer car, and then you get it, and now you want a boat. The average person will always want something thats a little bit nicer, so they'll always want more money.

Never enough for me, I want to keep climbing as high as I can to where I can live comfortably , so about the 100+, really 150-200 range.

I like most people though would say I’d initially do it for myself but eventually it’s going to be more about securing a future for my family and descendants, only to probably be all spent up by the 3rd or 4th gen but it’s life

Depends when you retire. If you retire at 65 you don't need that much. If you're retiring younger, 60, 55, 50, 45, you need a lot more. That answers Op's question. People want to make more and more money becausethey do need more.

According to that tool I was correct w/ $300k expenses per year with $10M over 50 years.

So how much do you expect to have in expenses per year? That's why I'm saying $10M is unnecessarily high.
