Oh great just what the world needa during a global pandemic and large scale ecological disaster. A fuken missile that will kill us all a bit faster...

We could feed the entire planet with the money wasted in fancier and deadlier weapons just so the military industrial oligarchs can get a bit richer. Fuk them.

It's not how fast you can go but how fast you need to go accounting for the other trade-offs?
the only thing that ever matters is: hit the target with the smallest margin of error possible and avoid detection from the enemy. if your missile can do those things, youre golden.

people look at the speed and compare it to ballistic missiles i guess, but that is a very wrong perspective because these are two very different missiles. a ballistic missile is fired into space where the payload begins a predictable descent (parabolic trajectory), that is much much easier for defense systems to shoot out of the sky than a hypersonic which flies at only 3 times higher than a commercial airplane and is maneuverable.

the downside is distance. you cant obviously cover as huge a range as a ballistic missile.

I read somewhere (can't remember) that the reason why we can't help starving ppl in Africa is due to shipping/logistics. It is hard to ship fresh food over there due to shipping costs, preserving the food and the routes that will need to be travelled. The funniest thing is that coca cola actually manages to bring these ppl a coke machine and have their sodas drank over there etc, so a starving African mentions that they can use coca cola to ship the food, but of course, evil logistics, shipping and travel liabilities get in the way. I agree with where you're coming from 100%, and I never really have anything negative to say about any of your posts, but the real world is just a fcked place. Dedfknsrs.

even if we did manage to feed them they'd reproduce until eventually you cant feed them. wait thats what is actually happeneing. the population of africa is set to EXPLODE, 3x the size by 2050. most of them will be sailing to Europe courtesy of jewish NGO's providing life rafts.

the african survival strategy has always been to have as many kids as possible.

i want to see america do 2 things asap, invest more into missile r&d, and invest more into missile defense r&d. ideally develop some form of capable AI that can be integrated into both aswell.

stop wasting money on more nuclear subs and aircraft carriers, you *******s already have enough you dont need more.

Um no need. The subs can already park off your coast with nukes. It is only a matter of minutes before they strike. An ICBM takes less than 40 mins from launch to target. I am just saying that reducing the strike time from minutes to seconds doesn't really change the equation of warfare that much when you are targeting a city that would take weeks to empty. Besides James Bond will hit the kill switch mere moments before the strike anyway.

LOL a few years ago "the US doesn't have any hypersonic weapons" herp derp how Russia and China did. Yesh, sure.

The US not only has the highest military budged, but also has the most resources in R&D and also intelligence so if anyone thinks that the US doesn't know what everyone is doing and is caught off guard and we have nothing even thought of, then either you're an idiot or they did their jobs.

"American doesn't know anything about hypersonic" bish, we had the SR-71 in the 1960's. Almost 60 years ago. 60 years..... 60 and they have nothing close.

Interesting thread.

So the people who know their stuff agree this is a big advancement? Not that it's the fastest but it can move and fly at altitudes that make it better, am I getting that right?

Every time I watch those robot videos where they are dancing and jumping I see a rocket launcher on their shoulders and think if the military just bought about a thousand of those it would be game over for any land assault. There's even robot spiders and dogs. The tech is there for a robot army already, no idea why nobody has developed one.

Can you imagine the Taliban with their AK-47s watching as a horde of robot spiders with machine guns on them swarmed into the mountains?

Crazy how aircraft carries will basically become obsolete in 20 years.

Good luck shooting down a Mach 9 missile.
Survival. When the jungle tears itself down and builds itself into something new. Guys like you and me, we end up dead. Doesn’t really mean anything. Or, if we happen to live through it, well that doesn’t mean anything either.

When I read the thread title I thought it was a mach 5 ballistic missile. Sounds like it is actually a mach 5 cruise missile, which means it is a way bigger advancement.

Carriers will never be obsolete

It's a mobile base of operations. You can't fly troops and equipment across the Earth back and forth strapped to Mach 9 rockets.
