It seemed obvious the movie used that book - seems like a decent source to me. They did exaggerate some things like how many cowboys they killed at the end (it was a lot less in real life) and Earp seemed to be a lot more of a gray type character than the movie shows. They did a good job on Holiday too - what did you think was wrong specifically?
The way they showed Ringo die pretty much jived with how they found him. They knew it wasn't his own gun that put the bullet in his brain and no one ever knew who actually did it.
This is a great book on it:https://www.amazon.com/Tombstone-Sou.../dp/0826321542

Like you said, the death count was exaggerated and Earp's virtuous personality was much grayer (more of a grifter IRL) in reality. Same would be that way for all of the characters. It would have been a boring movie (see Kev Costner) it they went that route.

After that movie it would be almost impossible to play doc holliday without being compared to val kilmer.

If you sunuvaguns are ever in Colorado, go to Glenwood Springs and visit Doc Holliday's grave. There's a brewery that has a beer named after him and I reckon it's the best I ever had. Hazy IPA

Personally, the 1957 movie is the best.

Netflix has kevin costner's WYATT EARP (1994) though.
which i think is better because it's more gritty and realistic, compared to the cartoon action in Tombstone.
