Buy into solid growing tech companies and never sell till you need the cash, ideally after 5+ years from start.

People who sell now are trying to time the market, assuming prices will drop, unless they arrived at a goal for their money / need it.

If you insist on trying to time the market based around some recent/upcoming news, earnings reports, then buy a few weekly options accordingly and make (or lose) a few G's to satisfy the itch. Otherwise stick to shares and LEAPs for the bulk of your portfolio. Slow buying always accumulating tortoise wins. Get rich quick hares have their days of victory, and likely many more days of failure. If December ends similar to where I'm at now, then I've actually lost money trying to be a hare this year srs.

yeah yeah, things are high, they've been saying that since about 2017. People who got out then missed massive gains that are essential to performance.

Every expert who has studied this to the moon and back has come to the conclusion that you can't time things, the most efficient thing to do is remain in the market. Never sell, continue to buy, ignore the ups and downs.

I never sold a penny during Covid. I know my stuff, I'm a serious investor. Turns out, I would have misjudged when to sell during Covid.

The S&P500 averages about 10% per year, that INCLUDES recessions and depressions. It's also before inflation which brings the "real" average return to maybe 6.5%.

Good news is I really don't think things are going to get that bad for most of us.
I still see btc purpose as a better digital gold. I don’t think it’s serves it purpose as a hedge against inflation just yet. Asset is too immature right now.

I'm very against BTC.

I know the financial industry very well, and understand currencies very well. I'm also a borderline expert at investing, and I've yet to be convinced of it's actual worth. It won't ever be a true widely adopted currency, so what is it? Blockchain is a cool way of tracking things, but you can't invest in simply blockchain. I'm open to debates, I've debated pages and pages on this and have still yet to run into somebody who actually makes a point.

Yeah, OP is unaware of what stock-based compensation is and that insiders have to declare, way ahead of time, when they sell or they get cucked by the SEC

Bitcoin and Ethereum are the back-bone for projects with daily value/use.

You say you know the financial industry and investing very well. So ask yourself this, what are you missing that governments, banks, hedge funds, investment firms and multi million/billion dollar businesses & individuals are getting? Because they are going in on Crypto.

Not trying to influence you for Crypto or bitcoin or anything like that. But what makes you think you are smarter then the individuals running the above ^?

I'm not too big into crypto but I toss about $500 per month into it. I've seen some massive gains.

It was created to serve as a currency but I don’t think that purpose fits today since there is better alternative coins in the crypto space that does that better. It’s more as a better gold imo. Aka digital one

They're not, that's what I'm trying to explain. I'm on the business side of money, and I know this stuff extremely well.

Businesses are only adopting the acceptance of Bitcoin because #1 it gets their name in the news, and #2 they look "modern", it's a fear of looking antiquated.

Banks are businesses, they're doing the exact same, they appear more progressive by accepting it, but the number of people who actually use Bitcoin or ETH as a currency is beyond incredibly small. It's only value is international large transfers if you want to avoid a $50 fee for a wife, and there are other technologies non-crypto already filling that gap. It has borderline no uses.

Investment firms trade to make profit. If they see or think they can profit off of this speculative gamble, they will. There is money to be made in crypto, but again it's more of a speculative gamble (like a casino) than a true investment. I'm not saying the price won't go up, plenty of underinformed people support it and think "it's going somewhere", which inflates price, but that won't last forever.

Investment firms don't recommend you keep much of your portfolio in crypto.

I'm one of the most qualified people on this forum to talk about finance stuff, there's yet to be any real use for BTC or ETH. It won't be a currency, for a million reasons. What exactly do you think it will be?

Again, it's "modern looking" to accept coins, which makes it trendy, but marketing is all about latching onto trends.

but are those gains from crypto or just from investing and having discipline to keep adding in money into a growing investment? I dont see yet how its much more beneficial than stocks right now except with a little less predictability

BTC and ETH are fairly stable. I've put money into a few alt coins that tripled or quadrupled in a very short amount of time. Nothing big really but I've seen massive gains.

I allocate $500 per month for Crypto. Its volatile so I buy when the price dips and do nothing when it rises. If there is a bull run for a couple of months where all Crypto's just moon. I set that $500 aside in a stable-coin and wait until it dips again and buy then. On occasion I put a small amount into an altcoin. I really don't nerd out over this stuff too hard.

If it all goes to 0 and cryptocurrencies die I'm out $500 per month. If it continues to grow like it has been, In 15 years it will be a nice little boost for retirement. I'm very interested in the staking/lending side of things and I definitely like the ease of transferring holdings from one account to another or swapping crypto currencies from one to another. In the future I'll be spending a lot of time internationally which is another reason it interests me.

When it comes down to risk VS reward I feel more comfortable adding that $500 to month to crypto then to the stock market. (Srs). I feel like an additional $500 a month into stocks will not be a game changing wealth even in a 30 year time horizon. $500 per month into Crypto could be a game changer in half that time. My only real regret is I'm conservative by nature and I'm not willing to YOLO into it.

I wouldn't try to tell people to buy or not to buy either way. Not shilling anything. I'll just say I don't regret buying into it. Part of me wants to double my monthly budget for crypo.
