This was 'special' enough to post for the 918 alone. You can search the internet and probably every car forum and you will find very few pics of that car 'in the wild'. The fact that my buddy got one, yea we are super happy for him. It is pretty exciting if you understand how special that car is. Since you are not a car guy, you dont get it.

Nothing wrong with a lotus.  There was an evora there.  It is owned by a car mechanic in our group.  A $40,000 car parked with cars costing 10x that and more.  You know why?  Because we like cars and we like our friends.   We dont value our friends by their net worth.

Here is another thing you dont get.   It is not showing off to own a car you like if you enjoy it.  I would own my cars and like them just as much if no one saw them.   I dont care what they cost, that is not where my enjoyment comes from.  Heck, I wish they were cheaper.  They would be just as special and fun.

I am not defined by any label.  I dont appreciate things because they are expensive.   I love steaks, but I also love ramen.   I own a few nice cars, but I also own a KIA and I love it!  I also have a 2006 Nissan Truck that I love.

In my life, I am not a 'flex' type guy.    I have a small challenge for you sam.    Who flex's more?   I do not own a single t-shirt, a hat, a jacket with a Lamborghini logo or name on it.   I am guessing you have plenty of golf related clothing with all the top labels.  I see guys  like this all the time.   Maybe you can say you wear it for 'golf', but if you wear your 'golf' clothes anywhere but at the course, you are flexing more than I am.   I dont need something to define my person.  I am me, and t-shirts, or cars, or houses, dont define me.    I stand on my own.

That's how it works and Mr. Crabs would get it if he had any interaction with these people at all.

I answered this before on the misc when I was asked. Total value of my clubs is about £50. I don't buy or wear any labels on the course or anywhere else.

You can't say you aren't a 'flex' kind of guy if you make 'flex' threads. That's not how it works..

Not trying to be a dik. But flexing is posting things because you want to show off or because the are expensive. Have you ever considered that the motivation might be that I really like cars? It is not a 'flex' when it is real life. To be clear, I dont consider myself wealthy. I am comfortable and live a good life, but I just dont see myself as such. I still cut my own grass. I even cut my own hair and have for the last 25 years.

I guess the significance of the 918 is lost on you. Cool, you dont get it. Others do. Also was a ton of fun to get together with friends who share common interests.

And, if this gives you any more indication, this is how I am spending my new years. Stripping the rear suspension out of my lotus, getting ready to drop the transmission. Working with my son in the garage. Yes, I could pay someone to do this, but I actually enjoy working with my hands.

Well, out of the 20+ guys there. Not a single one dyes their hair or tries to be anyone they are not. None of single guys brag about the women they get either. So you are right, I dont think you would fit in with this bunch..

So ID's hobbies include big dollar supercars.
Let me ask you this; if his hobby was making stained glass figures where he had a whopping $200 invested in lead and colored glass, would that be different if he posted pics of his work and his friend's work?

Non-car guys just don't get it; and never will. It's just a hobby. Don't be salty because he's put himself in a position that his hobby is big dollar cars.
You can see he works on them himself; doesn't just "pay" to have someone else do his work, and really not know anything about the car except how to turn the key. He knows every aspect of that car. Much repect in doing this work himself.

Myself, I've been into drag racing muscle cars and streetrods since I was a kid. Also knew every aspect of every car I owned.
Here's a couple chit pics from my scrapbook:

^^Sick rides.^^

I don't have an issue with guys that don't get the hobby, its the guys that make assumptions about people they never interacted with that are the problem. The community I hang out with are the nicest guys I have ever met and will drop everything to help a bro out.

There are of course some a$$holes that have nice cars but they are the minority and are not usually part of any community for long.

Dude, had no idea. Some cool stuff! That is what is funny about this place. We tend to look at people from a myopic perspective. Yet there is so much more to all of us than training. Well, for those that actually train. Very cool to see some other car stuff. I actually like all cars. Of the older stuff, still have the dream to build a Chevy II. Tubed with a roots blower

Spent the rest of the night stripping down the rest of the suspension getting ready to drop the trans.

If the axles wont come out, get a bigger HAMMER!Ended up with the 10lb sledge before they let go!

Everything now stripped. Trans comes out next!!!!

once again for the very hard of hearing

it bothers me not a jot what anyone has or can buy. I live within a half mile of upwards of 400 supercars. Ive flown on other peoples private jets. Been to yacht shows. Worked in £100 million homes.

The ONLY thing I find obnoxious and unnecessary about wealth is shoving it in peoples faces and screaming 'look at me!'. Just shows a total lack of class.

So is it only OK to post pics of nice cars and think they are awesome if you dont own one? Just asking for a friend

There does exist a world, where some people have nice things. And they buy them, not because others think they are cool, but because they actually like them themselves. You can also share those things with others that like them.

If I were screaming 'look at me' I'd have 100's of pics of me in the cars. FWIW, I have a car instagram, and there is not a single pic of myself in it. Just pics of my cars and my friends and other cars I think are cool. When you take the "me" and "I" out of it, the cars stand on their own. I feel lucky to be around and see as many as I do. Really is it unreal at times. Super cool and grateful as I know many people would enjoy this. It is also why I always take the time to share the cars with younger kids and adults. These things are fun. Get you stick out of your a$$ and open your eyes. Cant even tell you the amount of times and conversations I have had with people sharing in the love of cars of all types. Life is good man!

Lotus update for me. In the garage last night my son and I, trans dropped, old clutch came out and new stuff staged and ready to go in. Yes, I think this is cool!
