The pain and suffering of dying I don't fear. That's just a part of life and it awaits everybody.
Never existing again or having any consciousness, and there not being an afterlife where I see all my loved ones again and being with God is what I fear. I like being alive and existing. When people use the analogy of "it will be just like before you were born" just doesn't work for me. Well I was born so it's hard to accept not existing after you've been blessed with your existence. The idea that once your brain and body shuts down, and all that ever summed you up was your physical self now means that all that you ever were is gone is what scares me.

There is some fear of the unknown in that sense and I’ll be sad to leave any friends or family behind but many people far better than me have gone before me so I hope when the time comes I’m ready for the next adventure

Death doesn’t scare me
Already have cancer, it’s not that bad. My stomach is just always messed up from the meds and I’m tired a lot
I feel grateful every day I wake up, I know I’m already on borrowed time, but I have excepted and come to peace with my own mortality
I do worry about my parents if I passed. They will be pretty broken. It’s why I have a huge life insurance policy. My mom can retire if I pass.

Had a near death experience rolling off a cliff in a truck. Time slowed down like I was the flash. I made peace with myself pretty quickly and was ok with it. The take away is I wasn't scared then when I was 100% certain I was a dead man I doubt I'll be scared when the time does come.

Being dead doesn't scare me. The process of dying is very scary to me. It's rare to just pass in your sleep of old age. Some drawn out slow decay prior to death seems unpleasant.

I had thoracic outlet surgery on my right arm years ago from pitching, and it actually took someone 3 years to diagnose what it was since it’s a pretty rare injury. That surgery went fine but it had spread to my left arm during all of this. Is this because it took so long to diagnose? Who knows. I have to wait a year to get the surgery done on the left side and finally get it done. There are some complications in the hospital after the surgery. They pull the “pain ball” out and it catches on something and within 5 minutes I’m leaking chylothorax everywhere. I have to stay for almost a month at a hotel in the city I had the surgery in. They have me on a low fat diet to try and stop the leaking.
Eventually I go home for around two weeks. My breathing is getting worse and worse, and one day I can’t breathe and my mom says I’m going to the emergency room. I tell her no I’m fine and that it will pass, but she basically throws my ass in the car. I get there and they do some X-rays and it turns out that around 98% of my chest is completely filled with fluid, and my heart and windpipe are being pushed over. Doctor tells me I’d be dead if not for being tall and my mom bringing me right when she did. They don’t even give me pain meds or anesthesia but put me on a bed, get two nurses to hold me down, and the doctor starts jamming this rod thing into my side. I don’t remember much but from what the doctor and my mom told me, chylothorax started flying on the ceiling, walls, everywhere. They have two more people rushing in with towels to try and clean, and stop it from making an even bigger mess. Eventually they put the largest drainage tube they have in me and they’re having to replace it every 5 minutes because the leaking won’t stop. I spend the next 3 weeks in a hospital bed with two chest tubes draining the chylothorax, and being fed certain nutrients through another tube. The place that did my surgery is on the phone with them throughout this and finally tell them they have to get me up there for emergency surgery or I’m going to die. I can’t fly commercial or ride in a car, so they have to put me on one of those tiny emergency planes.
I get there and they wheel me straight off the plane, into an ambulance, to a hospital room. Two days later they’re prepping me for surgery. I go under anesthesia and while I’m knocked out I see these bright lights to my left and right. What feels like a few seconds later a movie theater type of screen appears in the middle. I see a little kid on the screen at first, and then a few more images appear after. But these are actual things I remember doing as a kid, and I’m seeing them play out again, just from a spectator point of view. Then it moves on to images of memories from me as teenager (I was 17 at the time of this happening). Then it just keeps going but faster and faster. Me in my 20s, 30s, all the way until I’m an old man. By the time it gets to me being an old man I feel like everything is about to explode because it’s shaking so badly. The lights on both sides of me are going crazy, the theater screen is shaking so much that the images have gotten blurry. Finally it feels like everything around me has just exploded and a few moments later I’m in this blackness. I really don’t know how to describe the feeling in here. It was like I was in a cube, with just blackness all around except there was a very tiny light that seemed a million miles away. I could feel myself trying to yell and talk but there was no sound. Just pure silence. It’s like I still had my thoughts, but I had no body or mouth. I was stuck in place, with no body parts to move myself. The only way I can think of describing this is the book/movie Johnny Got His Gun. The moment after I realized this, I felt terror as I’d never felt before, because I truly felt that I was trapped in this cube thing forever. I don’t know how long had passed, but eventually I just had this indescribable calmness come over me and it’s like a light switch was turned off. The cube and the distant light disappeared and that was it. It’s like I had been knocked out or fell asleep. That’s the last thing I remember before waking up in a hospital room. When the surgeon came in shortly after to check on me, I straight up asked him if I had died during the surgery. He just grinned and told me he’s not supposed to talk about what happens during surgery, but yes, something had happened during mine but I was able to “pull through.” At my last visit before I’m cleared to go home, it’s just me and him talking and he finally tells me that yes, I died for a couple of minutes during the surgery.

In my grandfathers case a door shut and he was told it wasn't his time so he lived a few more years.
"I see a little kid on the screen at first, and then a few more images appear after. But these are actual things I remember doing as a kid, and I’m seeing them play out again, just from a spectator point of view. Then it moves on to images of memories from me as teenager (I was 17 at the time of this happening). Then it just keeps going but faster and faster. Me in my 20s, 30s, all the way until I’m an old man."
There is an unspoken thing, we are iron brothers and sisters, we are to support each other and...It is our duty to support our brothers and sisters in the iron game!

I don’t like to talk about it but almost feel like I have to. I’ve gone into cardiac arrest and basically died before. There was a dark entity that tried to take me to its realm and when I refused I came back to life. All I know is there’s a lot more to this reality than we understand and death is not something to be afraid of. You are more powerful outside this body than you can imagine. Our entire lives have been a lie. There’s a lot more to all of this and nobody fully knows what that is.

Not really, only the physical aspect of not wanting the pain of a fat ass heartache, and just for it to be once my kids are a decent age. My uncle had a heart attack in front of his kids at 48 last year, they were both under 16 and they’ll never live that down.

Kind of, especially since we don't know what (if anything) comes after.
The idea of ceasing to exist for all eternity is unsettling. But the idea of an "afterlife" or whatever kind of is too...since we have no clue what that might entail.

it doesn't scare me, personally. But I wouldn't want to leave my family/parents alone. I think my death would hurt a lot of people and I don't want others to feel that, especially on the topic of suicide. But I'm a fking doomer and I would totally consider the option if I hit rock bottom.
I'd say what I actually fear is various aspects of life to the point where I'd rather be dead than face them or experience them or participate in them. school, college, working a 9-5 office job, etc SUCKS. I only like my hobbies and stuff like watching movies and playing videogames and messing around on my skateboard. I don't want to be a cog in the machine anymore. I hate meeting new people and the only thing they want to talk about is "what kind of work do you do?" "where did you go to school?" .
I feel like many people are materialistic and totally out of touch with nature and natural things. Heck, most people aren't even passionate or truly interested in anything, they're just going through the motions like zombies and it's disgusting. To me, life should be more exciting, and there should be a point to this existence other than eating, sleeping, reproducing, consuming plastic products, and working and going to school. I'd rather be dead than do this for another 40 years until retirement. I don't even want to get married or have kids, I'm already burnt out and want to go on a permanent vacation from society. build a cabin in the woods and rot.

My own death doesn't scare me but thinking about my family and friends' death is a different matter.

There are degrees of consciousness. It takes less mental function to feel pain than it does to know your name.
