the cost of living is higher in western countries. you go out to eat, it's 20 USD or Euros per person. When you go out to buy a shirt, it's 40-50 USD. so what does it matter if in theory you have more money, but you live a lower quality of life?

When a Chinese goes out to eat it's 20 RMB.

Sure life is much cheaper in China but let's not forget real estate quality in China just like food standards are dogsh*t in China.

Also the smog in the big cities makes it unlivable.

THere's a reason all rich and even middle class chinese want to leave the country asap.

I love when people try to say life in the US is so horrible and then start talking about it's bad because we don't have free healthcare and free housing for the homeless or that our social services for the poor isn't what they would like it to be, but I'm like we also have jobs that can fix all of that.

Any low IQ European or anyone outside the USA should know that the USA is a country that capitalistic by nature. Thus, if you want to succeed in the USA you need to be well trained in an industry or have a business. Resultantly, the salaries are much higher, and if you are in the top 15% you are living comfortably, much better than 99% of the world, including Europeans.

-didnt need to pay a single cent for my master's degree in industrial engineering
-the state even gave me money for studying (circa extra 350€ per month)
-still a more valuable degree than what 80% of universities in the US hand out charging tons of money for it
-now earning about twice the american median income
-when i call the ambulance or end up in the hospital im not getting a bill handed to me

china stole manufacturing from the west and japan. Yeah there is prob a bubble and it could drop and i read things about them having debt. But they still will own the manufacturing unless someone else takes it - ie. makes it cheaper. only india is probably a legit candidate at this point.

I mean all of those things are easily achievable with some planning. I didn't pay a cent for my AS, BS or MBA and got a $2,100 a month housing stipend for my MBA. I used employer tuition assistance for them first two and GI Bill for my MBA. When I call the ambulance my health insurance, which my employer pays all of except $18 a month for my family's coverage, covers the tab. As a bonus in can walk into an orthopedic center monday and get any MRI before lunch if I say my leg feels funny. Again covered by insurance.

I also make more than double the American household median income, but my tax burden is at least 20% lower than yours.

In short the system here is amazing for productive and ambitious American citizens. Not so much for people who don't want to work. Im ok with that.

The quality of buildings in metro cities are better than the US as most of them are less than 20 yrs old and quality. Us building and infrustrucute are 100 yrs old. Look at the train differences. Chinese built bullet train works perfect


U can’t point to a rural building that fell down and compare it to buildings in Shanghai. It’s not the same.




The living standard is much better in Shanghai. Nobody is worried about racism robbery homeless and murder.

That is a worry every time an American woman or kid step out the door.

Can look at it from the angle of GDP per Capita in terms of Purchasing Power Parity (PPP) to normalize what each currency can actually buy in its home country

The purchasing power of the RMB isn't nearly as bad as the spot exchange rate suggests, but China still doesn't fare well when looking across the whole population. How much of that is driven by rural versus urban pop and other factors, I dunno but China has an absolutely massive rural population

Smart man. So many don't understand this post. Amazing how no matter how much some people make they will still spend it all and live check to check.
